Don't work at walmart, they still do that awful "cheer" thing at the beginning of shifts.

I had the unfortunate luck to walk into the store during a shift change as the employees were all grouped together cheering about walmart and some stupid shit. It was awkward and made me want to kill myself.

I don't know if all stores do it, but here in Wisconsin they still sure do.

Your resume wont really matter, your interview will though. Then again when i was working at Sam's Club we were basically hiring anyone (including one crazy ass dude suffering from PTSD or something). I only worked there for 8 months, but enjoyed my nearly 13$ an hour pay for just cashiering. Just got tired of my section boss wanting to promote me to shift manager and all the stupid promotional shit they tried to make us push while cashiering (hint, people don't want to sign up for your credit card, they want their shit scanned as fast as possible :lol )

Well I passed in my resume and the application to Walmart yesterday so hopefully i'll be hearing from them sometime soon. If I do get called in, what should I expect during the interview? When I applied for Superstore and they brought me in for an interview, they just asked me basic questions like how old am I, how would I get to work, how much can I lift, ect. Would it be the same shit?

This is walmart...yes.

It's great that you care this much about the job but you're going way overboard

Alright GAF, i'm 16 and i'm applying for my very first job. I dropped a resume off to a few companys before like Tim Hortons, Superstore and Futureshop but only ever got a call back from Superstore and I managed to blow that interview by saying I only wanted a summer job. Now I know that saying that just lost me a job.
Anyways, i'm applying for Walmart tomorrow and I decided I need to make a resume and everything instead of applying online. I only made a resume once ever and that was for school and now I forgot everything I learned about it. Since GAF is mostly full of people over their 20's who have jobs and had many before, I was hoping you guys could give me some tips on what I should put in my resume and what exactly I should put.

TL;DR v. I'm applying for Walmart, I am clueless on what to put on my resume and I need tips aswell.

You must be canadian. A lot of americans must be going, wtf are those stores, never heard of em :P

What do you mean? I need a job badly and I'll do whatever I need to, to get one. I applied for Walmart, Kent, Tim Hortons and Futureshop all in the past week. If I don't get a call back from atleast one place, i'll be pretty disapointed.

Whatever job you get, don't be an asshole and wear a suit on "Dress down" Friday. :lol

Seriously. That was a great thread.

To the OP, they'll ask you a bunch of questions designed to see if you can think like they need you to think. ie:If you see an employee stealing things, what would you do? Why do you want a job? Why do you want this job?

Alot of the time they won't be expecting much from your answers. My first interview I ever had they asked me why I wanted the job and I said "because I need money and it's close to my house". An absolutely terrible answer in every way. I was offered a job at the end of the interview :lol

I used to work for Best Buy as a merchandiser a 5 years ago, they own Future Shops... and the environment in them is supposedly easy... they very much believe in team work, commission free, but they really want you to push those damned service plans. I got fired from that job because they were assholes... I would never work in that type of retail ever again. I would probably suggest working at a grocery store, it's cliche, but it's so much relaxed and chilled, cool people.

I do so much shopping at those kinda retails stores, to work at them, would make me not be able to stand being in them on my time off.

He means you're over thinking this way too much. This is a minimum wage job, you never need a resume for that and they won't care if you give them one and it won't put you ahead of anything. The questions may be slightly different but it's all basic stuff like name, why you want to work there, if you're a hard worker, do you get along with people, etc. It's extremely easy to get a minimum wage job, you just have to answer their easy questions and act normal and you're good. It's pretty much a no brainer to get a minimum wage job, I think there was only one minimum wage job where I even got interviewed. They were just pretty much like ok we need someone, fill this out and we'll tell you when you start.

I disagree about not bringing in resume... that doesn't always work. There are some locations where they are like a min wage job but are overstaffed... if they are having high turn-around and lack a lot of people you may get in, but it's more professional even if they don't take it that seriously. It's better in some cases to show you can take this seriously, to apply towards your experience in life. You just don't need a covering letter.

just be persistent and keep calling those places back. they'll probably find you annoying as fuck and eventually hire you, but in long run, your job there wont count for anything for/against you so dont worry about annoying them by calling so much

Yeah, i'll call them if I don't hear back from them within the next 10 days.
Walmart is the only place I actually dropped an application and resume off to though since the other places you can apply online.

If you want a job as bad as you say, I'd just apply every place that will let you. Even if it's a place you don't want to work, it's better to have too many options than not enough. It's pretty impossible to not be able to get a minimum wage job.

It's easy for your resume to get lost in the pile online, especially with Futureshop.

Your application gets processed by corporate, and then gets sent off to store managers who have to filter through to find someone close to their location. You're better off just going to the store and asking to speak to the manager. If he needs someone to work shitty shifts in the Entertainment department then you're probably in.

Alright this is a big bump but..
I got a call back from Futureshop and I have an interview with them tomorrow.
Has anyone here ever worked there or still do? I'm wondering what kind of questions were asked on the interview and some interview advice.
