First Official NeoGAF Pokemon Tournament

Bleh, stupid 4x critical, basically OHKOing somebody it shouldn't. That and I'm guessing you're doing special d matching because nothing seems to be scratching your pokemon. ?_?

4x? I always thought critical hits were 2x, actually something near ~1.98.

Also don't feel bad about losing, there have been tons of upsets so far. Jiggy losing surprised me, and he lost due to bad luck too. CVX lost because he chose the wrong move. (Sort of bad luck?) I guess

Maybe he meant 4 critical hits? I'm noting all the next round victories in just my records. They'll be put up when the next bracket is tonight.

Hoping for a response from the last three battles. Division 2 is pretty much dead >_>;

It could be, though it hit like 4x. It was roughly equiv to an average sp.def pokemon (base of 80-90) getting hit by one of those 140 base moves at 1x, but it did what, 80-85% damage?

Well, that wasn't the only failure, anyway hopefully I'm in for a 2nd bracket battle soon.

I was wondering, is it alright if we mix up our teams a bit mid-tournament? I found that a few aspects of my team don't really work and have a few trained pokemon I want to switch in. Does anyone mind?

Maybe the pokemon had the Sniper ability?

nope.

Firestorm: When can we get the loser bracket up? It would be a good idea to hurry what fights we can since there is a lot more free time for everybody involved on the weekend.

Could have been a Choice Banded critical or something like that.
And I agree with getting that losers' bracket. >_>

If a few entrants would be willing to use Pokemon Battle Revolution I think it could be done thanks to YouTube.
Found this post while looking back for yudaan's posts... Forgot to ask this the first time around, but what is it about PBR specifically that would make it possible to watch matches? Just recording from the TV?

So the farther you before losing in the winner bracket, the farther you are placed round-wise in the loser bracket?

There's some weird formula for figuring it out but my mind is too simple so I used a program that does it for me >_>; It doesn't work like winners bracket where you'll be playing the person above/below though, so you can't go ahead and fight the next round. You'll have to wait until I post that up.

It seems there are lots of communication errors today. There were a few in the Smogon tournament too (Tied for 5th with like 4 other people =D). If you can help it, probably best not to play today.

I am literally shaking. I can't keep my hands from shaking. My GOD that was a crazy battle. Your "strategy" almost killed me for good. That was fun, except for you know where with you know what.

And to think I had predicted ivysaur would make it all the way to the finals of the winners' bracket. :(

Based on a system of who had better avatars. >_>

On a lighter note, this means exactly half of the third round of the winners' bracket has been finished before anything from Division 2 in the second round. :lol

-_-; I've fought twice today and I still wish I could get another round or two in.

If there is a losers bracket, then it isn't really a double elimination tournament, is it? Or how will this work? Double elimination would mean that everybody who has lost 1 time can still end of winning first place in the tournament, as long as they don't lose again.

The winner of the losers braket faces the winner of the winners braket.

Since it's a double elimination tournament though, won't the person from the losers bracket have to beat the person from the winners bracket twice? This tournament could last while since everybody will have to be defeated twice (except for the winner, who will be either undefeated or have 1 loss).

Not if the losers braket never faces the winners braket until the final match. Then it would be only one match were the losers braket would have to beat the winners bracket twice. Not that much more.

Yep, loser must beat winner twice to be the champion. It won't take awhile, except for people who don't seem to respond and play their matches. Once they're out the tourney will pick up pace because it will be mostly people who enjoy playing and will do multiple matches per day.

I'm thinking the next tourney should maybe be a bit smaller, but it might not be an option of more than 32 people want to play.

Not sure exactly what you mean TJ, but once you lose once, you'll only be playing other people who have already lost as well. The only time you'll have to beat someone twice, is if the winner of the loser's bracket beats the winner of the winner's bracket.

i've always wanted to see a tournament where you are only allowed to use one type. Some people's strategies would be great

I know the feeling. :(

Well, a Battle Revolution tournament would instantly cut the size down. >_> Probably too much so, though, since I doubt most people here would want to buy that game...
Actually, maybe we should gauge interest in PBR in the other thread or something, see if it's viable...

If you had kept the Ludicolo, I think I would have predicted a tie or something. Ludicolo or Guillo, that's no easy decision.

Guillo >>> All

But if I could find a good picture of Guillo with his/her eyes red and angry, that would fit my tag even better.

Ok. Putting up new brackets. Xisi-hardtospell wins against purgeface and Error wins against rafman because rafman didn't show up last time either. Error I don't think is going to show up for the next round either so we'll see how it goes >_>

But that can't be, because Milly > Dingbat.
>_>
<_<

...Well, except in battle. Guillo owned everything every time there, I have to admit.

Wait, if rafman didn't show, how did he get past the first round to begin with? Opponent forfeit?

His opponent didn't show either. So that makes two rounds in a row now where his matches had neither person showing up >_>

Note: For Loser's Bracket the winner of both battles in the same division will play each other. So this time, you can go one battle in advance for Loser's Bracket as well. Remember not to do any battles after that.

Also, post here when you've PMed your opponent for this round. I'm sure a bunch of them are going to be inactive again due to the time since a lot of them last played and I'll have more headaches =( Winner's Bracket should be fine as it's mostly active people who are left. Loser's Bracket seems to be a lot of active vs dead or dead vs dead.

So wait, if I lost this round, am I in the next loser's bracket?

The one after the next one >.> You have a while to wait. You also messed me up because I could've sworn you said "I'm in the loser's bracket now" but the last thing showed you winning. I thought I messed up and searched all over XD

So. Complicated. >_>
I'd say this is why we need round robin, but then round robin is probably impossible because we'd get too many irregular competitors and people who got to face them would have a score advantage (or disadvantage, even) compared to the people who didn't, and... yeah, it'd just be a mess.
But okay, cool, I think I kind of understand how the losers' bracket works--well, at least everything before the point of how people come down from the winners' bracket into the middle of the losers' bracket. What a crazy and complex system.

PMed yudaan earlier today and got a reply. He's getting his last team member up to speed, apparently, so we should be in good shape for that later on. One less headache for you. :D

I just finished my battle with Xisiqomelir so winner's bracket is 5/8 finished! After this round, I do think that battles will move on quicker. We're still battling with pretty much all 48 participants at this point.

This should have just been a normal bracket, single-elimination. All the AFKS would get kicked out, and anyone who doesn't deserve to be at a higher level will get destroyed when they get to the top.
