First Person Shooters with great campaigns?!

because it is an actual game instead of a glorified tech demo?
play crysis 2 if you want a great fps game
play crysis if you like HD grass and trees

The fuck man. Crysis is one of my favorite FPS of the last years and I could give a rat's ass about the graphics.
Game has awesome mechanics and great level design for the first two thirds of the game.
Crysis 2 stripped the combat sandbox way down.

Battlefield Bad Company.

Still the best single player campaign in a battlefield game. DICE took massive steps back with the campaigns of Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3.

BioShock 2 and it's expansion Minerva's Den are two of the best mainstream shooters released this gen, for what that's worth (admittedly not much). Minerva's Den in particular is pretty outstanding.

warhead is kinda between both, still shitty at times but not to the extend crysis 1 was

I find this post pretty damned ignorant considering how much the gameplay and level design was neutered in Crysis 2 to squeeze the 360 and PS3 for all it was worth in order to show off how pretty CE3 can be. In essence, Crysis 2 was nothing more than a tech demo for CE3 on consoles.

sorry, stupid double post, quoted my self -_-
---

I am not sure about the over all experience, as I haven't played much HD games this gen; but Casino level is definitely one of the best levels in FPSs that I can remember; it was just sooo cinematic and YET you were still in charge of the play, so good

yes, the Casino level surely is an highlight of the game. Finish the game, mate, it's worth it

My favourite campaign is still CoD 4: Modern Warfare. That Sniper mission is amazing.

Also recently Bulletstorm, so much fun.

In terms of great FPS CoD4:MW is the only one I can think of that I've played. I've played a couple of good FPS campaigns but stuff like Death from Above and All Ghillied Up and the part where you crawl through the crashed copter after the nuke really set CoD4 in a league of it's own. Kind of weird how MW2 became almost a parody.

Haven't played Halos or HL2 though.

1. Half-life 1 and 2 and expansions.
2. Big space between these and the rest of FPS.
3. First Cod, Medal of Honor AA, No One Lives Forever 2 (I agree with this one), Halo's.

edit: How could I forget Portal... Put both Portals up there just after the Half-lifes, then continue with the big space.

Serious Sam TFE, TSE and 3
Painkiller
Bulletstorm
Crysis 1
Halo series
Doom series
Duke Nukem 3D
Blood
Bioshock 1-2
Half Life 1-2

I've always wanted to play the NOLF games, but I'm hoping for a GOG release.
- Blood :will probably finish it if I can get around a few tweaks to make it work well with a modern PC

Do you have the GOG version? Works fine on my pc.

The best single player FPS games are the Half Life games and the original Golden Eye. If you don't adventure games then the original Metroid Prime is also unmatched by anything else.

Star Wars: Republic Commando has the best SP campaign I've ever played, I <3d that game, too bad it never got a sequel. :(

I liked it when it came out, played it again this year. I don't like it much anymore. The assault rifle which is your mainstay is so pathetically wimpy and feels weak as.

Half Life, +sequels, are basically unbeatable in terms of delivering an immersive and interesting 'experience'. Really. It puts all other FPS to shame when it comes to storytelling and atmosphere.

I think the Halo series has also delivered some pretty great campaigns. The awesome music, art design, big budget cutscenes, and interesting lore come together to make for a pretty engaging space opera. The vast scale and varied sandbox really push it above any other FPS in terms of fun, though.

Edit: Of course, if you're including FPSRPG's like Stalker, Deus Ex, and Fallout... there's a lot more competition.

Medal of Honour: Warfighter
Battlefield 3
...
...
...
Just kidding.

But seriously:
Half Life (or Black Mesa if you want a modern version)
Half Life 2 & Episodes
Bioshock
Metro 2033
Crysis
Doom 2
Duke 3D (Probably my favourite DOS era FPS)

Consoles:
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Timesplitters 2

When it comes to modern FPS RAGE, F.E.A.R. and Singularity stand out as the three games with the most satisfying weapons and combat encounters to me. They aren't as consistent as the Half-Life games when it comes to writing or pacing but they're still among my favourite games this generation.

Crysis 2 has one of the worst writing in this entire generation; the first was much better in everything in my opinion

I'll put in some classics too. Here's the list I would go with, all on PC, most on consoles:

Doom
Heretic
Duke3D
Quake
System Shock 2
Half-Life 1 & 2 (honorable mention to the Episodes)
No One Lives Forever 2
Deus Ex
BioShock
The Darkness
STALKER
Mirror's Edge
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Portal 1 & 2
Crysis
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Borderlands 2

No One Lives Forever
No One Lives Forever 2
Half-Life
Half-Life 2 Episode Two
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Halo: Combat Evolved
F.E.A.R.
Bioshock 2 + Minerva's Den
System Shock
System Shock 2
Deus Ex
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Crysis
Timesplitters: Future Perfect

Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Amazing single player and fantastic multi player. A great game all around. I think it's ÂŁ4.99 on Steam. Too bad it's not on GOG though - no GOG, no sale.

Wolfenstein wasn't bad either, but it pales in comparison to the older RTCW.

Whatever happened to the raytraced build of RTCW? That looked so GOOD.

Battlefield 3

RTCW is by far my favourite online shooter ever and this looks so bleedin beautiful! I would pay 200ÂŁ for a modern RTCW...hell they would just need to reskin it

Resistance fall of man - Just as good as halo CE
Resistance 2 - Most epic scale in a fps...ever
Resitance 3 - more intimate battles and less scale, its growing on me I guess..
Killzone 2- Technicly has the best campaign this gen. best gunplay ever.
Halo 3 - Best halo ever
Crysis- open ended at its best.
Half life 2-

I love Battlefield 3 as a game, but that campaign was just terrible.

I know.. Muliplayer, blah blah. But they couldn't put SOME kind of effort into it?

I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet, but Brothers in Arms 1/2 are phenomenal games. I'd give three a pass though, but it's not terrible just very, very disappointing.

e: It has, but I'm mentioning it again. First class games.

Bulletstorm has a bitchin' SP, you ignorant dick-tits!

Too much talking. To much QTE. Too much wasted opportunities.

Echoes mode though, is a whole new deal. SP campaign, without all the cutscene and shit that makes the game slow and boring. 100% pure bliss

My recommendations from this generation (there are tons of good ones):

RAGE
Half-Life 2: Episode 2
Crysis 1
Crysis Warhead
Crysis 2
Syndicate
Metro 2033
Halo: Reach
Halo 4
Serious Sam 3
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Modern Warfare 2
Call of Duty: Black Ops
The Darkness
Wolfenstein
Singularity
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin
Bulletstorm
Hard Reset

Every single one of those is a worthwhile experience IMO, and I'm sure there are others I've forgotten. It's been great for a FPS fan.

It is funny seeing Resistance 2 even nominated seeing as the single player alone staked the series so it would never return. I know it did for me.

Anyways,
Half-life series
Crysis
FarCry
Halo 1 and Reach
Metro 2033
STALKER

I could go on but mentioning the last two seems kind of unfair since they aren't straight up FPS shooters and the rest of my nominee's are hybrids as well.

Battlefield Bad Company.

Still the best single player campaign in a battlefield game. DICE took massive steps back with the campaigns of Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3.

I even enjoyed BC2's campaign.
However BF3 god damn I have no clue how they fucked that up so badly.
Seriously playing it felt like I was playing a game still being developed on 360, even with the HD textures installed game looked like straight shit. Which is sad since i'm not one to complain about graphics very often. Aside from that all the "Invisible" walls that you would pass to only have to turn around in 10 secs or die were pathetic.
