First PS3 boxart unveiled: Untold Legends

I really love the smaller, slimmer BD cases, as I'll be able to hold more games on each shelf of my display unit. I'm not feeling the sidebar though, I hope they change it.

See this wored better on PSone cases because they were wider than they were taller. However doing this on blu-ray cases you have issues.

Christ, lose the damn Spider-Man font already! Whoever came up with the idea to use it should be punched in the neck.

I like the spiderman font. How many "normal" people actually care this much about boxart besides hardcore fans?

Nope. But what does that mean? What do those boxarts look like?

Man you quoted before i deleted that...

..but I was refering to the cases themselves... big chunky thick white boxes with boring white spines.

Not like the sleek black colorful US boxes.

"normal" people point out it's the spider-man 3 font too

To me, there are two kinds of boxart designs. Ones that blend in with the surroundings of the store and ones that beg for attention. For example, the DS boxes immediately draw attention to themselves. PS2 boxes do not. I think this is more the latter.

Even though the dimensions match up, I don't think Sony will keep that Blu-Ray banner on the top of the games. There really isn't a need for it, they can just have a Blu-Ray logo on the actual box art, like what they do for CD Rom and DVD Rom games...

I think the Blu Ray stuff stays. Sony is in a format war right now, any mindshare they can get they will take.

I agree. Sony is banking their entire PS3 division on the success of Blu-Ray (and for good reason). You've gotta believe that the logo will be prominently featured on every case.

I don't see why they feel the need to constantly shove the Blu-Ray in your face. The PS2 used DVD and I don't remember the front of the box being plastered with that logo.

Having "Blu-Ray" in the box promotes the brand (which they need) and promotes that the Playstation 3 uses Blu-Ray instead of just DVDs.

What will the greatest hits boxart look like? O_O

The boxart will be identical to the normal releases, but the box itself will be fire engine red instead of the usual Blu-Ray blue, with 'GREATEST HITS' splashed across the top in block caps.

but its not blue so it wont happen, sony wants us to know "blue case = bluray disc!"
thank you for speaking factually on behalf of an entire corporate entity of which you are not a part

Meh, it should be done like this. Screw that stupid vertical strip. I don't care about the old ass PS logo either. :P

i'm gonna be pissed off if Nintendo sticks with current sized dvd cases like Microsoft stupidly did

small slim blu-ray/hd-dvd style is the way to go now

Doesn't make sense why, if they were going to go with a Blu Ray case, they didn't more simply modify the Blu Ray header to do both jobs in one, sliding the Blu Ray logo to the right or left and then putting the PS3 and PlayStation logos up on the top plastic. You waste a lot of real estate with this set-up. I do like Blu Ray Movie cases, though, and I'm glad they are using them for PS3... I just don't like the way it came out.

Exactly, stop it with the ugly double-banner shit.

The logo on the left side reminds me of the PlayStation 1 game packaging, as well as most games released for various Sega systems after 1993, and games for Nintendo's handheld systems.

I'm not nuts about the font (I prefer the classic PlayStation font as seen on PS1 and PS2), but I also don't find it repulsive as some people here seem to do. I think most people will get accustomed to it over the passage of time. After a while, you'll stop seeing it as the "Spider-Man font" and start seeing it as the "PlayStation 3 font" instead. :)

why all the hate for the spiderman font? you guys are acting like its a horrible movie or something.

Yep that looks great.

My only question about these cases, though, is that when the next Spider-Man game is released, are the fonts going to have a fight?

It's got nothing to do with the quality of the movie. It's always goofy when some company uses a highly recognizable font for something else.

Imagine if MS used the Star Wars font for their Xbox logo. It'd be equally retarded.

Thank you. Who ever implied it was a stupid move because Spider-Man wasn't a good movie? It's because Spider-Man is a good, successful movie that it's a stupid move.
