Nah it's totally still a browser game. When html5 comes out they wont even offer a client anymore. Right now there is a client but it just runs in it's own browser with java packaged in with it. But you don't have to use the client.
I played Runescape late 05 - early 06 before I got tired of the carrot-on-a-string gameplay. You spend all that time grinding to level up but theres no end purpose to it. It will just keep going on forever.
Went back for a little bit when they had Runescape HD just to have a look at it.
I agree though that it had some pretty good quests when compared to the other MMORPGs I've played. All those games had me do was kill 10 of x animal over and over again.
Runescape was full of kids though. I mean we we all kids when we played it, but now I feel way too old to be playing it.
Bout 700k subscribers now, there were 1.6 million before the combat update. Doesn't include people playing for free.
Since agility there are at least 6 more skills in the game, and another two coming soon. Every month there is a good sized content patch without fail, for the past decade.
