Or, if it succeeds, we might get stuck with Android phones being carbon copies of iPhones with another OS.

I will never reward loss of major functionality for mere esthetics. I expect the successor of a device to do more, not less.
But I can already guess this will do better than the S5, BAH....

Amen bruh, amen.

No removable battery?

Worse battery life than the previous model?

"Are you changing your battery? Is that the old Samsung?"

"Yep."

The rise of the portable external charger has made the need for changeable batteries less of a concern for me these days. I'd much rather carry something that can recharge my phone, tablet, Vita, Kindle, and bike computer than a battery that only works with one machine.
Its not just carrying batteries around. You know how some people say that they would rather have the device a little thicker and have better battery life? With a removable battery you can do just that.
If you keep your device for 3 or 4 years, or repurpose it for someone else or as a touchscreen universal remote and keep it for 5+ years then instead of the battery getting worse and worse, you can just replace it.

Those are valid points. :)

The Samsung rep came by work yesterday. I got to play with the S6 it's really nice, love the build quality. Its thinner and narrower than the 5 but I think sightly taller. He mentioned something about a new cable to transfer all your stuff even if you forget your Google password he even said you could get your iTunes library on the s6. Not sure how it works really. The only thing I didn't like was the screen size. I'm used to the bigger LG g3 screen.

Did you try sitting on a flat surface? If so does it wobble when you use it?

  • Put Vanilla Android on it
  • Don't install any other bloatware on it
  • Let me buy it unlocked, off contract

Then I'd seriously consider buying this.

Samsung executive board chasing those Apple customers.

More power to them, but this Note 3 will be my last Samsung. Who's liable to pick up the crown?

  • I'm sorry but that's never going to happen unless you do it yourself.
  • The phone only comes with two or three Samsung apps and four Microsoft apps that I'm sure you can hide or delete if you don't like them.
  • I thought that you can go into any carrier store and purchase any phone unlocked.
But if those answers aren't satisfactory for you than you could always get a Google Nexus 6 which is a Man lla Android phone.

Sadly if you were to look at Android phone sales numbers you would see that no other Android phone manufacturer can reach Samsung's sales numbers.

Did they test the retail unit with final software, or a pre-release version? Didn't Samsung tout better battery life and a 50% louder speaker as two of the advantages? I don't mind everything else, but battery life is my most important concern, if that's shit, I'll likely give this a miss.

To be perfectly blunt, it's going to destroy the sales of the S5.

The part you decided to leave out:

without revealing actual numbers. It’s not clear whether these are orders from actual buyers, or from local smartphone sellers and carriers. However, the phones are supposed to go on sale in the region on April 10th.

Preorders to suppliers is the not the same as preorders to consumers.

They just said that it has quick charge and wireless charging features, not that it has better battery life. It seems to be slightly worse than the S5, closer to the iPhone 6 in battery life.

no sd, i can deal with. i only have a total of 16GB+32GB in my s5.
no removable battery, i can deal with. haven't swapped batteries in forever.

i think my main beef is the lack of waterproofing, as i would take my phone to the beach/pool all the time.

power wise/features wise... looks like a beast.

Yeah I'll probably invest in a good waterproof case for going to the beach.

Here's a new review of the Galaxy S6 by GeeksAndCom. In the review GeeksAndCom had this to say about the Galaxy S6's battery preformance:
I noticed a superior battery life to that of the S5 in most uses. I never had any issues lasting a day with medium use, while a intensive use allowed for the battery to last about 14 hours. The testings with Geekbench 3 confirm this feeling : 8.5 hours were needed to kill the S6 battery in an intensive use of the processor while 5h were enough to kill the Lollipop-running S5. The improvement is thus substantial.

Here's an image of their Geekbench 3 results:

Well I guess that confirms that GSM Arena didn't test the battery very well. Now I'm interested to see what the overall consensus is.

Also, I'm getting a new phone soon. This or the Nexus 6?

There's a huge difference in size, the Nexus 6 has stock android and should have better battery life (massive battery in the N6).

s6 has some quick charge feature which they said "charges up to 4 hours of battery in 10 minutes"

so being tethered to an outlet may not necessarily be true.

This might be a silly question but for all the criticisms of Samsung's software, specifically the launcher as per this review, isn't it possible to install a different launcher and make it the default? Or am I missing something?

They are reviewing stock software as sold.

90% of Samsung users will never replace their launcher.

What's this Random Read/Write stuff I keep seeing?

I think (could be wrong) it's referring to the new Universal Flash Storage, which promises faster read/write times. Unfortunately, that will preclude you from using your own cheap microSD card. Be prepared to pay a premium on more storage.

Also, no removable battery, no buy. F that noise.

You can see on the edge in that review has the google now launcher or apex (probably apex as it seems to have a different icon pack). That's probably the first thing I'm going to do, the rest of the new touchwiz looks fine to me. I just don't like the icons and the app drawer.

When can I pre-order on Verizon's site? I see April 1 but is the EST time? I want to do it tonight before I go to bed. I've looked around Verizon's site but there really isn't much info on the phone.

So basically I want to buy a S5 in a year or so at a good price. Still love my S4 (although I can't move apps to the Micro SD, WTF, need to research this more) so I'm not in a rush.
