Totally fair to judge the character and movie from a paparazzi shot of the guy in makeup with no FX or post done to it.

Judging by the clothes he's wearing with the blue/white dots in the hood (most likely to add glow light for the CG guys to match later), it seems this is him trying to blend in and get away from something.
