First Tomb Raider Movie Poster

The poster would be awful even if her neck looked right, her neck doesn't look right, and that actress looks nothing like Lara Croft. Unfortunate.

This looks just like Lara Croft... it's eerie

Okay NOW THAT is what this crappy reboot movie Lara should look like! Not only does she look good, look the part, video game related, but the classic outfit and hair just looks so much more "video game-y".

Oh god that is horrid lol. No one in their right mind would use that for a movie. It's 2017 not the 90's.

The trailer/clip looks okay I guess. It's the 2013 Lara. Nothing else to add really. Interested to see what Daniel Wu does in it.

If I remember correctly from what it says in the official synopsis (I don't think that these are real spoilers but better safe than sorry),
he was an eccentric, aristocratic business magnate who liked to go off on adventures and then went missing on one of his trips when Lara was a teenager. Lara doesn't want to accept that he's dead and (like in the reboot game bio) doesn't touch his fortune but for some reason, she ends up wanting to/having to figure out what happened to him and that's basically how the film starts.
So yeah, it's got the same shitty missing/dead parent backstory that's been shoehorned into almost all iterations of Tomb Raider since the first AJ film even though it was never part of Lara's original backstory.

Its Hollywood, we cant have a strong independent free thinking woman making choices of her own and adventuring simply for the asventure...oh no, there has to be a reason shes doing what shes doing and the reason usually has a penis. Lol.

She should be dead with those spikes she tried to slide under.

At least move your head and shoulders down and blink your eyes when the spikes are that friggin' close

No doubt the girl is a good actress, but asking if there is a prerequisite for tomb raider...lol, come on

Uh... yeah?

Ok, what is the prereq height for a Tomb Raider reboot? Prereq physique and build too? Where is this rule written?

Who gives a shit as long as she does a good job? Who cares if she's got a skinner or smaller build than the original?

I think she looks great

The actual film on the other hand.. I'm worried about that.

Because when you are portraying a well known character then most people expect you to look the part.

You can bet I will be very critical of the looks, build and mannerisms of whoever plays Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie.

It's a REBOOT. Looks are changed all the time.

How does a female "look the part" in this context? How is that defined?

Look at the character in the reboot, there have been two games already. That is how it's defined.

When most people have the opinion that she doesn't look the part then there's a problem.

So, in what way does she need to be changed to match that character? Is the character not relatively small in the game as well? I don't remember her being big or buff or broad.

And, where did they say they were trying to match the character from the games 1:1? Is it really that important anyways?

You guys are being naïve if you are saying that an actor or actress doesn't have to look the part. Especially when portraying a certain character that fans are used to.

Looks like reboot Lara. I doubt the movie will be good but the actress is pretty cool and the costume and design seem to achieve what they are going for.

It's not about making a quick change and then it's all okay, it's about picking the right actress for the role.

You like her in the role and that's okay, but going by this thread you are clearly in the minority.

I'll ask again:

How does she not look the part? What's wrong with the actress they picked?

That question applies to every single person in the thread who said the same thing.

Tomb Raider

*posing in front of an ocean with over the top post processing effects*

Yep, another shit generic Hollywood poster. People get paid for this.

The build and the face.

I remember seeing the very first photo released of the shoot and the first thing that came to mind was how skinny she looked.

I'm much more a fan of the 'teflon TR' (although an unflappable hero does make for a sort of lousy movie character whereas it's great for a game,) but if the movie turns out good then...

Oh, it won't be good, never mind. I'd stand in front of that arrow with an apple on my head and not be afraid it'd even ruin the apple.

A shame, Vikander has built a nice reputation and director Roar Uthaug got some good notices for his previous movie The Wave (aka Bolgen), so maybe the performance and story will hold up? Everything about the action in the teaser snippet looks silly and bogus to me, though. I'd be more in favor of a down-and-gritty TR with no CG guillotines and real heavy-draw bows, just Lara punching and biting and jumping and drowning and shooting and in pain, the concept that the 2013 game wanted to embody but still had to go beyond because it's a videogame and you're supposed to be a badass who murders a million people with a few button presses.

You sound like the kinda person who had a problem with Gal Gadot when she was cast as Wonder Woman too. She's "too skinny". She doesn't look "Amazonian".

Well, most of know who the actress is. Maybe she just doesn't scream Tomb Raider. Maybe we will all be proven wrong. But the poster and snippet doesn't help in the slightest. My opinion was that she just seemed small. I could live with that if she knocks it out of the park and the movie is actually good. But that's a big if.

I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary until I saw some posts elsewhere about her neck. It looks kind of weird but honestly, unless you're looking for a flaw so to speak then it's easy to just view this as a generic poster. I liked what they did with the logo -- that's what caught my eye personally.

Yeah, I feel like this thread is filled with the types that would have cast Gina Carano as Wonder Woman. When it comes to fan casting, only looks matter.

This movie is probably going to be bad but I doubt it'll be because of Vikander.

So how is being skinny a bad thing in this context? Even in the game she's not big or buff. Her body type isn't much different than that. And.. what's wrong with her face?

I could understand complaints like "she doesn't pull off a convincing survivalist look" or something similar but "she doesn't look the part" has me side eyeing

Really? I've never heard of her before. She's THAT well known?

Again isn't the character from the game pretty small too? And has a similar body type, even if she might be a little skinner?

Jesus dude, people have opinions. And yeah, she has been in some really good movies recently.

It's not about anything being wrong, it's about not looking the part.

When the glove fits then people are happy. When it doesn't then you get threads filled with replies like in this one.

It's not about simply not liking the actress or her portrayal though.. "she's too skinny" and "she doesn't look the part" are weird criticisms that seem to be based upon almost nothing but "she doesn't look as hot/busty as the original"

That's not ALWAYS the case, but I don't understand why skinny or thin is "not looking the part" when the character from the game looks very similar to that description.

People seem to have very specific criteria for "when the glove fits"

...Why are you getting so defensive?
