First trailer for Playstation's TV series Powers

Looks awful. I barely recognize a single thing from the comic in that trailer, and what there is has been all jumbled around. That is so not the Christian Walker from the comic that I don't even understand why they bothered to get the license for the property. This is not the same story.

Ok, I thought I was the only one. It's been a long while since I read it, but I don't remember any of this from the comics. Sharlto is such a weird choice for Christian.

That said, I don't think this looks nearly as bad as people are saying. I'll give it a chance on it's own merit with the idea that this has almost nothing to do with the comic besides the premise.

Considering how low budget it looks I think we should dial back our expectations on the ratings reports whenever they come around.

I was at the panel today, they talk big game but the the thing is if they don't release it all at once who the hell is going to care about this in the long run. I think that the plan is to release the pilot for free and then build upon that. The better business model would be to release the first episode for free and then charge different rates on whether or not someone is a PS+ member and after the hype (if there is hype) dies down treat it like software add it as a PS+ free product of the month or whatever.

Also they mentioned that the effects are not done yet so more work has to be done on Sony's end. I believe that they have not been filming for that long, like about a month now irrc.

I guess im biased or something. I really look forward to watching this.

Gotta be better than that horrible gotham show.

They need to release the pilot online for free - to everyone - by putting it on youtube and twitter and all the different social media sites. The rest of the season then needs to release either all at once or once a week like a traditional TV show. If they go with the "one per month" model this shit has no chance of being a success.

Ew.

They should have went cheaper. Maybe then, by some magical circumstance, it could loop around to looking high-quality. Because this looks like there was no money spent on it.

I expected more. Especially with Kingpin taking such as large chunk of the Sony E3 conference.

It does not look anything like the comic, and it unlike some thing this really kinda needs to. More importantly for something written by Bendis none of that seem like it is written by him. I have heard enough interviews with him and know he has good taste in television.

I believe it is going to be everywhere but the rest of the show will be Playstation exclusive. It seems like Sony wants something to come out of this, it seems like the show is on the fastrack to release. Half the cast that was there only filmed like two maybe three scenes.

He said on the panel that due to the fact that the comic came out 14 years ago he felt the show had to be modernized to reflect a new vision. I also believe that he is handling the script so I dunno.

That's weird. They probably would have been better off making a trailer cut from at least a full episode. Preferably with special effects.

The special effects were brought up during the Q&A and they said that Sony is handling that, I don't know what to make of that statement. Is he passing the blame off to Sony or is he saying that Sony is putting real effort in the effects? To me the show looked on par with other basic cable TV shows.

Doesn't look bad. Sharlto Copley is awesome, so I'll watch it since it's a PS+ thing.

Don't know if it'll be worth all the time they talked about it at the Sony conference tho ;]

It looks very cheap, but it's still early. The talent is there and the source material is great. So I will wait with judgement till it's out.

Altough I get the feeling the FX version would have been a lot better

Sony really isn't marketing this at all. When they first announced this I figured it could be their "House of Cards" and the first step in joining Amazon and Netflix's efforts in producing TV shows outside of cable. They must not have any confidence in this.

I feel like the e3 thing soured them on it.

Probably didn't get the reception they were expecting.

And my friend noted that it was probably also because MS stopped their major push for original content.
