bare truth. pacticularly, the post-phaaze cinematic in corruption was cringe-worthy. the whole federation armada should've gone to hell with phaaze, samus being the sole survivor. but no, they had to fill it with chatter and salutations from cockpits. it was annoying as fuck.
when it comes to cinematic atmosphere, corruption is the anti-thesis of prime's and echoes' simple 'veni, vidi, vici'.
Corruption had moments of brilliance that come naturally from being a Metroid game, but it definitely also had cinematic elements that were obviously added for gamers who didn't just want another Metroid game that just happened to be the end of a trilogy, but wanted something that would go out with a bang.
It's interesting, because the entire Phaaze sequence leading up to the final boss is linear, but the sensation of atmosphere you got from it was pure Metroid. You had this isolated feeling (not even being able to use your ship), and you were on the verge of death in an unknown environment. That's magical. That's Metroid. And, that's all you need.
I thought they've already stopped. How many "hardcore" games have Nintendo of America published in the past year? Smash Bros and...?
I think many people would love to see an ORIGINAL Nintendo IP designed for people who love traditional Nintendo games (such as Mario, Zelda, and Metroid) and given the budget and development time those games have received.
Hopefully with Iwata at the helm of Nintendo they will persue more new IP's with budgets comparable to the Mario and Zelda, although Nintendo isn't the type of company to hire new programmers just because they have the money to. If anything I see them more likely to take the MS route and outsource the work. We still haven't heard of the next Wii __ game, it'd be nice if Nintendo surprised us all with Wii Hardcore, personally hand crafted by Miyamoto himself.
