First wave of Games on Demand titles on Xbox Live

I'm guessing the 120 GB HDD's are still expensive as fuck
Expect some movement on the HDD prices soon. When the Elite drops to $300 and the Pro is discontinued, I expect the 120GB HDD to drop to $100 and the 60GB HDDs to see a significant price drop or possibly even get clearanced.

god a really hope they don't break up the points prices per region. Marketplace has always seemed fair with it's world wide price point for everyone.

Somebody in this thread has already said they've seen VP cost 2800 MSP. If true, then the prices most certainly will differ by region.

Edit: source 1, source 2.

Someone please answer/confirm this. I would love to get all my old launch games again and finish them.

:D
I forgot where but I believe it was confirmed to use the same save files. People brought it up because of the issue with Burnout Paradise.

That makes sense, but with more installs and full games on the horizon, more space is need. What do you think would be the likelihood of even bigger storage options?

Im not buying games on demand if they aren't priced cheaper than retail, since retail games can be traded back for credit towards new games (ie. Trade 3 Get 1 new game preorder Free at EB/GS)

blackMamba1187 said:
I understand this argument to a degree, but don't people use credit from trade-ins to purchase new games? I know I do, as do friends. Does the purchase made with gamestop credit not count towards the publisher's bottom line?
That maybe but there also people that are around gamestops that have games that just came out already used. Ive seen games traded in that day that just came out. I remember my gamestop had a used copy of God Of War II the day after it was released.

I always keep enough room on my 20GB hard drive to install one full game, and I usually only play one full retail game at a time. If it's a single player game I always play through it once and then never play through it again. I think I'm the guy they're looking for with this service because I basically look at it as a more expensive rental service with a few added benefits. I would TOTALLY BE ALL OVER THIS if the games we $20. At $30 and above it's completely worth my time to track them down used.

:(

Anyway what I think will be interesting is that Burnout Paradise is $20 on PSN (and its approximate in other regions)

The Games on Demand version will have to price match this at $20 1600points, it's there stated policy to match all prices on other consoles on Marketplace (they should include PC).

If we can use that as a benchmark title it will be interesting to see what is more, the same and less in regards to game quality and time since release.

The reason why Burnout Paradise dropped to $20 on PSN is because it dropped to $20 at retail (according to EA). They have always kept parity with retail for the game specifically. It has never been cheaper than the standard retail price though, always equal or more.

The Xbox 360 retail price is also $20 obviously, so I'd expect the XBL price to match it.

Yeah it will be an interesting when the prices come out and per region also. It would be silly to see any prices over the retail one and I think it will be really interesting how the games prices will compare to each other (and per region, especially as its so easy to compare points values).

Burnout is the only one I think we can assume the final price when it goes live so far.

What retail do you compare it to though? I see people already expecting to be disappointed because Microsoft isn't going to price match the $5 they can get it for used at a flea market (or dirt mall, if you prefer).

60GB HDD = $49 (clearance)
120GB HDD = $99
Elite = $299
Pro = $249 (clearance)
Arcade = $199

I hope because I want a 60GB drive.

people expecting cheaper prices are fooling themselves, MS and co don't want to piss off retailers that badly.
If anything, it will be priced as low as Platinum Hits, so $30. And judging by the list all of them are PH.

I had a look on the UK marketplace, and on there VP:TiP is listed at £19.99 or 2060 MSP.

That doesn't sound right. People have said there's no MSP price on the UK marketplace, and 2060 MSP is even cheaper than the US price ($29.99=2400 MSP).

Are you sure that number isn't your points left in your account?

In the latest "Inside Xbox" video on Xbox Live today, Microsoft have revealed that the downloadable Xbox 360 games, via the 'Games On Demand' service, will cost gamers 1600 Microsoft Points (£13.60).

If you've not already seen the games that will be avaialble when the service becomes live on August 11th, you can check them out here.

I believe some gamers will think the price is too high, especially when the boxed alternatives of the games are going cheaper in stores and online, but hopefully some will believe the price is set accordingly.

How do you feel about the price? Is 1,600 Microsoft Points too much for a game?

True ?

I just checked. How embarrassing, it is indeed listed as free and the 2060 was my balance (d'oh). Sorry about that.

And you're right; £19.99 would equate to 2400 points over here as well.

I honestly don't believe that. Maybe 1600 for some titles, but one everyone. Unless they make the dollar price insanely high and points price low:

In the Inside Xbox video they don't actually say games will cost 1600 points, it just shows the price of Mass Effect (a platinum hit) as 1600

GarthVaderUK said:
I'd be happy with 1600 Points, I'll see if I can find said Inside Xbox vid now.

I'm sure it'll be for some titles but not for all. Although there's a couple titles on that list that I'd double dip on for that price point.

The press release says they're releasing new game(s) every Tuesday.

I wonder if this will in any way revitalize the CoD2 online community. It's still my favorite to play online in the series.

Yes sure, they can't give VP and VP 2 : TIP the same price.

Fuuuck more regional differences. Fuck man I really hate that shit.

Why would they not release Bioshock in the UK? That shit makes no sense at all.

It's a great idea (one a predicted ages ago in an update thread) but I really dunno what I'd get over cheaper pre-owneds on rentals. (might try it out with a cheapo, probably Burnout).

At the moment I can think of games that have a lot of replay online. Sure a few people will pick up some stuff things that might have slipped them if they are cheap enough.

Anyway anyone gona make a thread on release like the XBLA, Indie games etc with all the games, regions and prices in the op (& keep it updated) ?

Probably without Bringing down the sky DLC.

I'd love to be able to slap ANY drive in, but that will never happen. Why is it the 360 makes the best use of the HDD (being able to fully install games) but the PS3 is the most lenient about installing bigger ones :(

If the games are priced right, I might bite.

You should be lucky you don't get Sonic 06.

What is the point of this when their hard disks are so small and overpriced?

Microsoft is retarding the growth of their digital distribution system by making people pay stupidly high amounts for tiny hard disks.

You should be able to plug in a usb 1tb external drive and install games to that.

Yeah, what Master Ninja said is more than likely what is going to happen, I'm cool paying 50$ for a 60GB HDD (even though technically even that is a ripoff). Ideally, though, MS should just drop this whole HDD nonsense and release a slim 360 next year that takes lap top HDD's.

Odd that both Viva Pinata games are listed, since they're basically the same game, with 2 having a bit more content.

I'm guessing VP1 will be 10-15 bucks cheaper than 2 to try and reel people in on buying both.

Already posted and only Mass Effect is shown to be 1600MSP. That site is a joke.

This doesn't really appeal to me at the moment. I can buy a new disk for less and have the added benefit of selling it on if I decide to get rid. I would only ever download to disk if it's a new title and cheaper than RRP or shop prices, which it should be due to lack of media overheads.

I'm also sceptical of how long MS will flog the GOD addition. It's not too dissimilar from the Xbox Original downloads which was supported up to a point then left out in the wind with either no updates or middle of the road titles.

Here we go:

Despite earlier reports putting the price point of Games on Demand titles exclusively at 1600 Microsoft Points ($20), it is not entirely accurate. A Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed to EndSights that the titles will range in price–from 1600 Microsoft Points to 2400 Microsoft Points ($30).
“Games on Demand titles will cost roughly the same as you would expect to pay for these titles in a retail store, from $19.99 to $29.99 (USD),” the spokesperson told us in an e-mail.
The spokesperson also mentioned two easier ways that you’ll be able to purchase the Games on Demand titles:
“Additionally, Games on Demand titles can be purchased directly via credit card in addition to Microsoft Points, which are both more convenient than ever thanks to PayPal support on the Xbox.com Web marketplace,” the spokesperson said.
We will have to wait, however, for individual pricing when the Games on Demand service launches next week.

$20-$30 range is expected.
