Dusk Golem

A 21st Century Rockefeller
Hey everyone, this is Dusk Golem aka AestheticGamer. I have posted on NeoGAF since 2011, and have decided to resign. I have enjoyed posting about horror games here for years, but I no longer wish to support the site and will be leaving for good. I will still be around the internet, I go by AestheticGamer on YouTube, I make games on Steam as Yai Gameworks, and I plan to go by Dusk Golem on other forums. I'll be joining an off-set of the GAF community leaving to try other ventures like ResetEra (Official Twitter for that here: https://twitter.com/reseteraforum ). I hope some of you who read this may consider it, and I plan to try to expose more people to horror games in the years to come. Just not here.

I hope you all are having a good day, and know I always loved the community, and in the end it's the community I'm going to stick with, not the site itself. If you want to follow me, my official Twitter is here: https://twitter.com/AestheticGamer1

I haven't really been following the series too much, but it feels like these release way too fast? Do people experience series fatigue yet?

YouTubers right now

Early word of mouth? game came out like less than an hour ago.

I haven't really been following the series too much, but it feels like these release way too fast? Do people experience series fatigue yet?

These are small connected games. If Scott called it FNAF: Episode 1,2,3,4 etc. no one would ask that.

Most of the franchise fatigue is probably experienced by people who don't play/watch/follow it.
That doesn't really make sense... but somehow it does

I'm on the outside looking in (won't ever play the games myself), but it seems like people still really enjoy the series. Each game changes up the formula and its story seems engrossing.

I can't wait for the lore video. This is going to be awesome.

It feels more episodic than like full blown sequels. Also, this game is HUGELY different from the other ones. No camera, you move around in your room, and you rely on sound to fend off the animatronics.

Considering the guy has a wife and kids to support, and considering he's donated quite a lot to charities, it's really strange to me that this is the series people seem to go crazy about "milking" over.

He hit on a good, episodic game formula after years trying to break through as an indie dev. If anything, that should be celebrated.

Anyway. I've only played the first game, but seeing the lore and gameplay shakeups for the series is always fun. Looking forward to seeing what's in this one!

If he was charging full price for them I could understand, but 8 bucks a pop? That's not a bad price at all. And all the games have fairly different mechanics as well so it's not like they're just recycled. As far as 'milking' goes, FNAF is pretty benign.

Somebody's already finished it.

The ending screen is a picture of a small chest with the words, "Perhaps some things are best left forgotten, for now.."

Always with the sudden early releases, lol
If only other devs would do so as well!

Now to look forward to the Honest Trailer for it.

Maybe there's a secret ending or something. That'd be a terrible way to end things.

but what's the true ending...

The game is impossible! I just bought the game on Steam and I just died twice on the first night. How are you supposed to hear the animatronics? They're too quiet!

It's obviously referencing the Halloween update, I don't know what happens on the mini-games we haven't seen yet, the dude who posted this on the 4chan thread hasn't replied yet..

Are you wearing headphones? The game explicitly tells you to adjust your volume in the beginning until you can hear the sound of crickets chirping.

I hope this starts a trend of games coming out early. Even if indie games for now.

Uh, early access? Plus this method doesn't exactly work out for the best for every game out there.

could someone summarize what this game is about and why youtubers are all over it? thanks.

It's creepy horror story spread across four games that is made over jump scares, but cleverly hidden enough that they work.

Ten pages of "lol cash cow" incoming...

I haven't played any of them myself because, honestly, the gameplay doesn't appeal to me, but I absolutely love the lore and atmosphere. Can't wait to see how this one fits in.

And the next one. And the next one.

"YouTubers are all over it" because people like watching it.

Started out as a pretty straightforward jump-scare focused title.
Has grown into a series with little hints of story-related content hidden for more interested and devoted fans to uncover and piece together.

In his mind he's like "I REALLY need to put a down payment on this boat."

This type of comment is dumb... The guy works hard on his games with a LOT of love and attention to detail... "But he releases 4 in the span of a year and and and..." and they are all super short games that only take a couple hours at most to beat. If it makes you feel any better, call them "Five Nights at Freddy's episode 1 through 4". Tah dah!

The ALT+ENTER is very screwy in this game. It doesn't really have a fullscreen mode, just two different types of windowed. It is possible to go fullscreen with a massive black border, but can make the game somewhat weird.

Also,
people are saying that the game is somewhat easy to complete, but that Bonnie's footsteps and breathing don't always work, and the animatronics have a tendency to warp to the door without any audio cues. Some of the later mini-games don't really explain much, and the last mini-game is somewhat disappointing. Seems like the Halloween DLC will be revealing a lot more than we thought.
