Five Nights at Freddy's Creator Apologizes For Rushing Latest Game

looooooool, this is up there with the Boiling Point: Road to Hell patch notes
MINOR ISSUES
Police station cannot be destroyed by a crossbow anymore.
FIXED
-NPC now avoid obstacles when moving
-Collision : grenades do not remain stuck in walls when launched, prisoners do not remain stuck in walls when delivered, tree have collisions.
-Too big moon has been readjusted

Oh man wtf lol? This game is deserved to be nominated for "Hot Mess" category this year.

Don't understand why you would even feel compelled to rush a game if you're a millionaire and can afford to take your time with your next game.

Good on him for recognizing his mistake though.

Honestly? I think he just got excited to put it out there. Scott reminds me of amateur developers I've seen and met that just want people to see their new stuff. He can't wait. That's why the FNaFs came out early. That's why this hit a little underbaked. I don't doubt he genuinely plans to go back and fix it.

I think the aesthetic is fine, especially since that's Scott's bag and fits what he's seemingly going for. The main fixes it looked like it needed were the removal of loading times, especially with anything HUD-related, tooltips/descriptions, controller compatability (unless impossible), and an adjustment random encounter rate. Some cutscene chatter could also use tightening up and a better font.

Wait.. this game didn't just fall off the face of the Earth? I figured it'd go the way of most horror movies - release original, release 20 spinoffs of original, start new series.

Or does this count as a new series?

Scott is awesome. I haven't started the game, but wanted to give it a whirl, so I guess I'll wait for the free version (don't really even want the refund). He works hard though.

So did the game ever end up having any sort of horror twist or was it straight-up candyland all the way through as the promotional material implied?

Although it's probably not very nice to say, Scott (though he's clearly a really nice guy) wasn't a great developer.
His origins are in bad mobile games with characters that are supposed to be cute looking very creepy. He managed to make the most of his faults with FNAF but that's probably the most he should do
Uh, he did do The Desolate Hope, which is pretty darn good (and free!) http://store.steampowered.com/app/298180/

The responses to this game were actually pretty positive in the release thread, there were several people saying they really liked the combat system. Bit surprised to see this now.

I'm also really curious about this, if someone could indulge me in some spoilers.

Well, he's a liar because the only reason he rushed it out is to capitalize on FNAF's popularity. At least be honest about that fact.

This strikes me more as an eager developer who couldn't wait to release his game before it's done more than a greedy developer cashing in. Scott strikes me as a good guy who does what he does because he enjoys it (hence how involved he is with his fans) so it's a shame his newest game's apparently not so good. I've not played it but I don't think I could get past how much shit happens at once.

It's important to note that Scott isn't good at making games. He never has been. FNAF was fairly well designed, but that's literally the only good game he's ever made.

I mean, Pilgrim's Progress? Chipper and Sons Lumber Co.?

Noah's Ark?

He nailed the atmosphere and narrow scope of the FNAF games. Really, really well. He worked very well within his limitations. But that's it.

The FNAF games were so good because he was using his own game design flaws to his advantage. The creepy, unsettling look his games have and the cryptic and often chaotic mechanics translate well to horror. Good on him for using such harsh criticism to achieve success but it's a shame his newest game exposes his flaws as a game designer

So he's going to release it for free on GameJolt?

That's kind of funny considering 90% of GameJolt is FNAF fan games. And none of them are good afaik.

Not really.
But it does get meta and talks directly to the audience
with the final boss of hard mode
being Scott himself.

But the overall vibe you see in the trailers is basically how the whole game is. At least to the extent of how much I've spoiled. I've been browsing the FNAF subreddit since release but they seem more intent on discussing dumb theories for the other games.

Wait what? That sounds crazy. Might have to look this up.

Thanks btw.

Edit: Oh man, just watched a video of someone beating the game on easy, and that ending was like some undertale level weirdness. I kinda dig the battle system from the video too.

Can't believe he pulled it. He was already patching in some of the necessary stuff.

Can't believe you'd make such a gross statement about him when you clearly have no knowledge of the man.

People ragging on the creator should see the hard mode ending to FNAF World. It might give you an insight into his mind set. Major Spoilers
It ends with the player killing Scott, who is the final boss. He is exasperated and says people keep demanding him to fill their gullets. He says the only way the player can end the story is to the kill the storyteller. Shit's insane, watch the full thing on youtube.

I mean,
nobody's forcing him to make more FNAF games, especially ones that are released in such a shitty state like this one

I think the series has such a big fanbase that he just wants to keep pleasing them and releasing games they want, but he also feels like they're never really satisfied. He's not forced to keep making them, but it's not unnatural for him to feel obligated to deliver what his millions of fans want.

Wait, he pulled the game and gonna release it later for free? Well, that's just nonsense. The game was a lot better than everyone makes it out to be and to be honest, a lack of menu's and stats is exactly what you should expect from a fnaf game. I think his pride got the better of him tbh, seems like an unnecessary move.

Games being frantic and confusing works less well when the game isn't trying to panic you. I think he's doing the right thing by improving the game from feedback but the fact that he's releasing it for free is really something. It's not so bad that he needs to do that
