Five years of the BANEPOST

Badly made? You do know there are clear examples of badly named movied out there. You should learn more words to describe the spectrum of good and bad because you're not coherent in conveying the proper quality of the movie.

I listed several technical errors in my post. That is why I said it is badly made rather than a bad film. Because they had the budget and the expertise to make sure that Cotillard properly dies. There are multiple scenes where extras are doing a bad job. The ADR re-do on Bane is badly integrated. There is a real lack of care for detail.

Agent: You're a big duck!
Duckbane: For you!

I.......... don't get it?

CIA: If I pull that off will you die?
Mask: It would be extraordinarily painful.
CIA: [But] You're a big [strong, tough] guy [you could survive it I'm sure]
Mask: [...Painful] For you.

What am I missing?

Bane is saying that if Carcetti takes off Bane's mask, Bane will hurt him.

Yeah, I get that. Those were the blanks I was filling in to show it's a natural conversation. That's pretty normal torturer-villain banter. Hell, that's probably been said in Bond movies alone a dozen times. I don't get why it's at all interesting or noteworthy other than the lousy sound mixing.

Ah, sorry. Not sure how I missed your additions. I don't understand the meme either.

People are stupidly hyperbolic about this movie.

Uh
The problem is you had to fill in those blanks for it to actually be coherent

Has the phrase big guy for ever came naturally under any circumstance you've come across even in media? Doesn't take a genius to see that big guy for you can be viewed with homoerotic subtext. Same way you can apply the phrase "that'a what she said" to all sorts of seemingly innocuous phrases.

This is a shockingly poor movie. So badly written and put together. It is embarrassing that this was seen as fit for release.

There are FAR worse films released every single year. The hyperbole in saying that it is "embarrassing that this was seen as fit for release". lol.

Yes? It's a completely normal thing to say. "You're a big guy. You can handle it." "You're a big boy, get over it." "You're tough, you'll be all right." All variations on the same phrase that are totally normal things to say.

Having never followed the meme-ness of that "For you" thing... seems perfectly clear...

It's used all the time when one character wants to antagonize another bigger character who is in a compromised situation.

If you're a wrestling fan, imagine Kevin Owens calling someone "Big guy" or "Big man" when he's got him in one of those notoriously chatty headlocks (where Owens is basically playing the role of Littlefinger/Mayor Carcetti from this scene)

That his very first question, after discovering that Bane is on his freaking plane, is "If I pull that off will you die?" always rubs me the wrong way.
Like, that's the thing you need to know the most right now?

It thought this would be obvious too, and I'm no native speaker.

Honestly, sometimes I just watch this scene on youtube. I've probably seen this scene more than the film itself.

It's an okay trilogy ender but i'll always give props to Nolan and crew for actually giving it an ending instead of what happened to Raimi's Spider-Man films.

The delayed followup led some people to connect "for you" to the big guy comment, like "I'm big by your standards."

Agreed. Of all of the things that have ever been written in film, this is not one of the headscratchers.

Just now realizing Littlefinger was in Batman.

you and me both. I mean I do remember him as the greatest major in the history of Baltimore and as John Cenas adversary in the very underappreciated 12 Rounds... but I totally forgot that he also was in Batman.

immersion ruined, thanks OP!

The meme is intentionally misunderstanding the scene to read it as "You're a big guy, for you"

It got spammed a lot on /tv/

No you don't.

This thread is a great example of why I disregard about 95% of film posts on gaf. People can't even parse basic dialogue.

As a person who defends TDKR.. I actually didn't know he said painful for you until today.

It works as a double meaning - finishing '...painful...for you.' and as a riposte to 'You're a big man.'
