So where are these ads supposed to show up? I've been browsing a few photostreams and have yet to see any. And no I'm not using adblock.

Wow. I was just debating renewing my subscription and now they do this. Why even bother now...or are the ads super intrusive?

How the hell do I send a message (Flickr Mail) to someone? It used to be super easy before, but I can't seem to find the way to do it now!

They haven't done any testing on this through before launch, have they?

Really? I always have to end up going through Picasaweb to upload because Google+ keeps on getting error when uploading a large number of files.

That's more of the front-end link to the backend. But the backend's the same. Picasa albums are Google+ albums and vice versa.

They just updated their Pro FAQ: http://www.flickr.com/help/limits/#150487675

As of May 20, 2013, we are no longer offering Flickr Pro subscriptions to the majority of our members. Some things to be aware of (with more details below):

Recurring Pro members currently have the ability to continue renewing at the same price.
Eligible Pro members can get a prorated refund for a limited time.
Eligible non-recurring Pro members can purchase a recurring Pro subscription.
The “Gift of Pro” will no longer be available for purchase.
Pro users will no longer appear with a “Pro” badge beside their name or buddy icon

Your Pro pricing remains the same and your benefits have improved:

Those who remain Pro will retain all their original benefits.
The photo and video size limits will be upgraded to those offered with our new free account.
If you are on a recurring Pro subscription, your payments will remain as is. To see what your current subscription costs, see the previous payment on in your order history.
Pro members will never be automatically transitioned to an Ad Free or Doublr subscription.
So, as of now, if you have a Pro account, you will be able to keep it permanently at the current price. Even if you have a one-year Pro account, and not a recurring one (I think you would've had to have either received it as a gift, or manually canceled out of auto-renew), they're giving people the option to switch to a recurring one to keep the benefits. Seems fair. Obviously, the free accounts are much improved over what they used to be, but I think I'll still stay Pro for the stats and no ads. Plus, since I won't ever be paying for XBL Gold again, $25 a year ain't bad. :P

Thrilled. Been calling for them to go to an ad-supported version (or at least offer it) for years and years. I haven't actively used it at all since my Pro ran out and I had no reason to re-up (although I did like the stats that came with it).

Me too. If its just 2 dollar a month to stay ad-free.

Personally, I have no reason to upload high resolution images on it. I don't see what the point is.

I can't complain about the space, but I don't see the point in uploading really high res photos. The redesign is good.

edit: the site is getting hammered, probably too many people uploading stuff.

This redesign really is terrible. Everything is to overblown and there no option to scale things down. Also the infinite scrolling is grating my nerve. Has anyone found a way to gain some of the old visual style back?

On the url for your photostream add "?details=1" without the quotes and you'll get the old view back.

Holy shit I'm kinda freaking out here.

I've been maintaining a Flickr account with adult photos for years, I use a unique email address, nickname, etc. on this account than my primary stuff because I don't want to connect my Flickr account to my personal life. Well yesterday I got the notification on my android phone that there's an update to the Flickr app, so I allowed it to update without looking at any changes in features or permissions.

Since then I've been receiving notifications on my phone whenever someone comments on any of my photos, adds me as contact, etc. (like Facebook notifications) which didn't happen with the previous version of the app. It got annoying after a while so I went to the app settings to turn them off... I had to turn off so many options (gee they have a separate settings for every kind of activity) then I saw it:

Let me know when any of my phone contacts joins Flickr (or something along those lines, don't remember the exact wording), and it was turned on by default!

Do you realize what this means? It means if my phone contacts (e.g. my mom, my family, my co-workers, my boss, and the hundreds of people whom I have at one point saved their phone number) installs the app on their phone, then I'd get notified and shown their Flickr account...POTENTIALLY WITHOUT THEM EVEN KNOWING (since it opts you in to this feature by default), and vice versa!!

So there's a chance the app has already shared my nude ass photos with people in my phone contacts, which I've deliberately been trying to keep private from these exact people for years!

I have signed out of the app and I combed through all the account and privacy settings on the desktop site to make sure this doesn't happen in the future (including revoking access to the Android app).

I hope that I dodged a lethal bullet to my social and family life by catching this early (it's only been a day), and the fact that Flickr is not that popular... but the app does come pre installed on some Android phones if I'm not mistaken, and a lot of people auto update all their apps, and considering how incompetent and careless Yahoo has been with this, there is a chance that damage has already been done and someone I know IRL received a notification like "Hai, this is Naked Snake's account on Flickr (which he never wanted you to see, teehee), enjoy!"

Knowing how many people upload their naughty photos to Flickr, and the company's sudden push to make it the new Facebook and auto connect it to your social life.... Lives will be inadvertently ruined in the coming days and weeks.

So, what's your flickr account url anyway?

On a side note: I moved all my old frames photos out of my flickr pro account into a separate flickr account after marriage. A couple years later, I have completely forgotten the user name. Now I can't get those photos back. :(

This looks incredible. Might actually start using Flickr.

Edit: Fun fact, in the Netherlands the pronunciation of Flickr is the same as 'flikker' which is a swear word for a gay person.

They are nude photos of me, and I'm a dude. Assuming you're straight (since you're married), I'm not sure you really want my Flickr url
:P

You don't remember the email you registered it on either? Surely there should be a trace of it somewhere in your digital life... I know Yahoo is terrible with account recovery, I've had trouble with them in the past.

I don't get how people are hating on the redesign or preferring the old one. Sure it has some issues (which hopefully will be ironed out soon), but visually I think it's much better than the old one. And I always liked the endless scrolling popularized by tumblr over switching pages.

I was looking for a backup solution since I am going on vacation and didn't want all my pictures to be beholden to a memory card that can break or be lost. I was going to drop $100 for Dropbox but I think flickr can do the job perfectly.

Thanks based Marissa.

People said there would be nudity on Flickr. They lied.

There are. I used to use a flickr wallpaper app to pull down random flickr photos for my Android phone. If I use keywords like "female nude" "nude softbox" etc I get classy naked pictures. But other photo sites have a lot more.

Flickr is full to the gills with bad amateur porn.

Anyway, I really like the redesign. It might just convince me to start maintaining my account again. I pretty much abandoned Flickr for Tumblr a few years ago.

Funny: a lot of middle-aged photo dudes on forums hate the redesign and the fact that a paid subscription doesn't mean much anymore.

There is tons. Tons.

You need to disable Safe Search in your settings to view most of it. Here are instructions how to do it that I wrote on my Flickr, don't know if they're out of date but should get you there:

Most of the photos in my photostream have a "Restricted" safety level, so you need to be logged in to Flickr and have your settings modified to view Restricted content to be able to see them.

To edit your settings to view Restricted photos:
1. Hover over your Profile Picture in the top-right corner and then click on "Settings".
2. Select the "Privacy and Permissions" tab.
3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for "Content filters".
4. Under "Search settings" next to "Safesearch" click "edit".
5. Turn Safesearch off (You must be over 18) and save your settings.

Best way to find photos you like is to stick to users who upload photos that appeal to your taste (adding those users as contacts keeps you updated when they upload new ones, and a lot of people don't make their photos public and will only let you see them if they add you as a contact), also checking out their favorite photos is often a way to find more users with photos that you might like. And Groups.

And yeah there appears to be a backlash from Flickr regulars on the new design. There are groups and petitions and shit. Some people will always hate on change, any change.

My only issue is now there is no easy way to browse in smaller photos. The current mode is slower even if I use the fat pipe at work. Yesterday I had to look up some photos, I ended up go to to the organize mode and browse the tiny pictures in the bottom becuase that's the fastest way.
