We've been through this rodeo before. Time and again, it hasn't mattered which console has the most power (as the Switch is currently demonstrating). As long as the console is priced appropriately and its game library / dev squad appeals to you, that's all that matters (according to me).

If your console has all the flops and all the best games, then bravo. For now, we must wait and see.

I don't see the new gen consoles having more exclusives than the current ones, which already wasn't much, so even if I obviously prefer games, if it's only 5 big exclusives per gen you might also want those other 95% of games to look better.

For me it's games, obviously. But if the PS5 is not back compatible with all my digital purchase I'm getting a high powered PC instead.
This is the generation when the critical mass for people who went 100% (or close to) digital. If Sony fucks up and locks me out of all my games, I know for sure Steam won't.

I can still play all my digital games on PS3 and 360 including Scot Pilgrim vs the world. I have even digitalised all my original Xbox games and PS2 games. So far history has shown us that unless Stadia becomes the main source of gaming then digital games can be backed up in some shape or form and preserved. You just have look into it.

I understand people who like to collect physical games, I would love to myself but I have a family and limited space so digital it is for some games and I am not one bit worried about not being able to play them in 10 years time. Streaming gaming might be the exception to that though if it ever gains traction enough to become the main source, but then we all fucked.

It's both and more. Flops and games...services...and "where your friends are".

Most games are multiplatform... so you'll want them to look and perform best.
Exclusives... Sony's got some great ones. I also like XBox exclusives for their multiplayer (Gears, Halo). Suppo far we know Halo Infinite is a launch title and Hellblade 2 is coming at some point. If I remember correctly, only Godfall has been confirmed for PS5.

There is so much more that needs to be announced. Confirming specs and capabilities...but I think services will play a huge part here.

If the rumors about power are true (xbox ~25% more powerful)...and costs $100 more....the entire launch lineup available on GamePass day one is pretty huge.

You can make great games with fewer hardware resources, but you can make those same games look and play so much better on more capable hardware. Zelda: BotW (emulated) and GTAV are better experiences on PC than their console versions, to use some of the most critically praised games of the last generation. Give me another $600 console and open the flood gates on developer creativity.

Can't choose one. Need games PERFORMING better. Can't have a console with good games if they perform like ass. It's one reason why the PS4 was dominant in this gen when it had power and ran games better than their competitors.

Thats fine. I don't touch my games from 10 years ago, and I definitely don't want to keep 20 different black boxes that play games in storage and move them around with me where ever I go.
If I want to play an old game, which rarely happens, there's always emulation.

TFLOPS is just an advertised number. It may give a little bit of the bandwidth potential but the difference on a game is going to be minimal IMO.
