Flower (PSN)

Finished the game, wow this is like the new Rez for me. Stage 6 of the game gave me the whole wow & holy shit vibe that Area 5 of Rez did back in the day.

Awesome game, now i'm off to get some more trophies :D

How many secret flowers are in each stage? I don't know when i've "gotten them all"

3 per stage. you can check for leaves on your vase as indication if you've already gotten them.

Just finished it and my initial thoughts haven't changed, just amplified. Amazing experience and very glad to be part of it. By the time I finished the game I had tears in my eyes (no game has ever done that for me), it's just too beautiful. :lol

During the last level I had goosebumps over me for the whole level and had a grin, ear to ear while tearing down the ugly city

An absolute masterpiece, it's games like this and Braid why I love this gen so much. :D

Wow. I bought this on a whim without even trying the demo first.

At first I was like "WTF, how do I move the flower petal?" I tried to move my sixaxis but it only moves them left and right, up and down. No forward. Then I read the slowly appearing "Hold any button" and when I did that, everything clicked. It was perfect. It was beautiful. I finished the first level and can't wait to play the 2nd one but I thought I better stop since I don't want it to be over too quickly.

In summary: simple and beautiful.

:lol I don't think there's a demo even if you wanted to try it.

And I may be in the minority but I definitely liked the first three levels the best. I enjoyed the last levels and appreciated them but I know when I go back to replay, I'm going to be going to the first three way more than the last set.

Being on the highway with it filling in behind me was pretty awesome though

Wow.

Thank you everyone who praised this game. I didn't really get into FlOw but could appreciate what TGC was doing, however this . . . I don't really know what to say. The sense of flying is so well represented and the controls are so intuitive. This really is much more then I could have expected.

I wonder if playing this frequently enough will increase the likelihood of dreaming about flying?

Wow just played the first two stages. Flower is a beautiful experience. The audio and visuals are powerful. Controls took a little getting used to for me but I wouldn't have them any other way. I love the subtle yet powerful themes this game puts out.

This game is an experience. The subtly used in the game is some of the best I have seen since Shadow of the Colossus more games need to take this approach.

Didn't expect to feel as motivated as I did during the later stages. First the game
brings you down with those ugly black, industrial metal thingies you have to dodge between and flee from or they scorch your flower petals. :(

Then you get superpowers and just lay the smack down upon them. I cheered a little when I broke down a wall of those things. Yeah, you just try and stop me industrialism, the world will be pretty damn it!

Nicely set up that way. Did not expect such things. Furthermore the controls work well and feel really tactile, although it's a bit of a hassle if you miss a flower and need to go back. No biggie though. Visuals are wonderful, at times mesmerizing even. Music and sound design is splendid. There's really not a whole lot of negative things you can say about it. It's short and doesn't seem like the sort of game you're gonna be spending a whole lot of time on, but come on, for that price?

Wonder if they're gonna support the thing with updates? I'd like custom soundtracks please. And leaving various trails, different colors, glowing grass, flower trails. Painting the environment the way you get to do sometimes.

Absolutely loved the game. Just got done with it. Everything about it was just mesmerizing. Also, loved the fact the buildings on the final drawing somewhat resembled
L.A. downtown. At least one of the buildings did ;P

Incredible...

This game... is hard to describe but I know its doing its job extremely well.

Its hard to find an experience which you can get lost in just by toying with it but it hooked me pretty quick.

Chime one more for fantastic.
Harkens back to a time, when to a lot younger me, every game was new and amazing to explore, a really amazing experience.

One thing that struck me was how when levels are still desolate, they feel reminiscent of art-direction in SOTC landscapes. I wish we got adventure game of that type with this kind of weed-technology :)

Astounding.

Between the visuals, controls, and incredible sound; Flower delivers a unique and rare experience no other game can come close to. It's piece of art in a poetic and cohesive flowing manner.

Seriously, such a great game. I want to see more like it, a lot more. A great direction for the medium imo.

I enjoyed my time with this game but can't say I share the same ecstatic impressions. Calling it Art would be a rather philistine comment to make and the freeform collecting falls a bit short of actual gameplay depth. I suppose the fact that it is so mute, aspiring to be an almost videogame equivalent of New Age music and based about an abstracted and rather generalized sense of nature and 'evil' industrialism
(though Flower seems to make an odd ontological distinction between that and the city itself)
appeals to a broader taste, but wishing to make a claim to high culture/relevance/worth with this is tenuous.

Fairly soothing experience. Lush visuals and relaxing music. I especially liked the last level.

However, from reading the thread, people are really praising it beyond what I found it to deliver. Either way, it's cheap. If you can spare 10 bucks, go for it.

Hmm... So I bought it and played it. Don't you all think it was a little short? I finished it in about two hours (with a break in the middle).

I didn't get all the trophies on my first playthrough, so I suppose I could look for those now. Are there any other sources of replayability?

I've got all the trophies except Pure, Nature and the other ??? trophy

Man i don't think i'll be able to get the Pure trophy. I keep getting zapped near the end!! :(

I described Flower to friends as a game you will play for a couple of hours but remember forever.

Like Rez, Starfox, Rogue Squadron and a few other titles that have gone before it, Flower takes the player on a journey, one filled with wondrous sights to see as well as some fairly
scary and distrubing sights
as well.

The journey evokes tremendous emotions in the player, playing on their pysche in a way few other games have done before ...
the last level was an orgasm of pleasure for me personally, wiping away the horrors of level 4 and 5 with an all empowering "good will always triumph over evil" ending.
.

I left the game on a very high note, and ended up feeling that the 10 dollars it cost was very well spent. I won't say whether or not the game is art, but it's definately a title that will immediately come to mind when years down the road people say "Remember the PS3?"

Played through all the levels, am going back to redo them now. In a lot of ways the first level is still my favourite, although they are all great. The end of the second level might be the most beautiful part of the game, but that's such a tough call to make.

Absolutely wonderful game, so glad it was made. I've never played fl0w beyond trying the demo for a bit years back but as soon as I finished Flower I went and bought it just to support the devs any way I could. :D

Now I gotta go back. I am *so bad* at that night stage (the one with the danger, to be vague) that I must be missing something big. I haven't found one of the hidden flowers there yet so I must be just totally not seeing something.

If one of the trophy requirements is
not to hit anything electrical
, I don't think I'll ever be getting it. I never expected myself to scream "FUCKING MOTHER FUCKER" while playing this game, really.

That level would be so much better if it didn't have that shit.
It took me out of the whole relaxing feel I had from teh game. Despite the fact that you can't die, it still frustrated and angered me to see my petals falling off. :/

just blind bought this game due to the Rez comparisons

took about an hour and a half to download. during that time i worked out (lifting weights), and was absolutely exhausted by the time i was done.

playing that first level while my muscles were drained was so incredibly relaxing. love the minimalistic approach on everything too.

only minor letdown is i found all 3 blue petals (which i assume are the secrets) in the first level, first try. i'm debating whether i should just fly through the remaining levels not looking for them, or take my time like i did the first level.

anyone who's finished the game have a recommendation on that?

The first level is really easy to find them all on. The others are a fair amount more interesting to find them on.

I don't know exactly what your standards are...But this game is an experience not seen much with other games. What it sets out to do, it succeeded in it. Some gamers here have played so many games that look like each other. So when a game like this comes, it's a refreshing change and something that should be applaused. Even if it has flaws, its cons outweights them.

I just finished levels 1 and 2... this game makes me feel happy and full of glee... I don't want to keep playing because I don't want it to end! ;-;

Some hints for you guys wanting to get the
Pure
Trophy

DO NOT fly into the "boost" flowers, take it extremely slow, and move back and forth during the "collapse" part to slow you down, slowness is the key.

Pretty much everything everyone else has already summarized

...in the end, the only thing I wasn't crazy about was the music
. Just felt like it was trying to hard to be engrossing and it just never clicked for me. This game could have been silent with just ambience and I would have been fine with that

Don't worry. It's meant to be replayed.

I LOVE the music. It makes me feel like I'm doing something important...or at least reminds me of like...a Disney soundtrack or something.

I'm kind of getting my buzz on. Let's be honest am I gonna have a fun time after a couple bowls or am I going to be frustrated and confused?
