Flying bear kills two Canadians in freak accident

OTTAWA — Two Canadians died instantly in a freak accident when a car hit a 440-pound black bear and sent the animal flying straight through the windshield of an oncoming vehicle, local media said on Wednesday.

The bear's body hit the 25-year-old driver and a 40-year-old man sitting behind her and then shot out of the back window. The bear also died.

The accident happened on Monday night in a rural area about 25 miles north of the federal capital Ottawa.

"We don't see (this) often, even if we live in the country. Lots of deer, but collisions with a bear and two people died? That's really rare," local police spokesman Martin Fournel told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

Collisions between vehicles and animals are common in Canada, which has a healthy population of large wild animals such as moose and deer.

Wow, really? 440 lbs going straight through the front to back of the car? You have to be going pretty fast right?

I feel terrible for laughing at the thread title. For some reason, i thought about a bear with wings crashing into a small plane or something.

the first car hit the bear which then launched the bear onto the other side of the street, which made him go through the windshield killing 2 people and flying out of the back windshield. freaky.

Moose are deer.

yes true, but there are White Tail and Mule deer as well and most do specify between Moose and Deer because of that, like some would say that we have both deer and Elk here. your thinking in too broad a term.

I know i shouldn't, but the Thread title and the scenario explained in the OP has left me in laughing fits.

What a way to go!
