I'm flying from NJ to Vegas tomorrow so I'm bringing the switch out of the house for the first time. I got that hybrid case that's like the ipad smart case and I have a small usb battery bank.

Questions:

1) Anybody have horror stories about traveling with the switch? What should I do to keep it safe?
2) Can I use the switch in tabletop mode with the controllers detatched on the plane? Do the joycon interfere with the plane comms?

Imo the kickstand doesn't go back far enough to make playing it on your tray table an enjoyable experience since it's not angled up at your face unless you're really short or are slouching in the seat.

Flown several times with mine in the past month. No issues and I haven't had a flight attendant say anything when I had the joycons detached. Having a usb-c battery pack is a must if the flight is over 2.5 hours.

(2) Bluetooth is fine. My only concern about tabletop mode would be turbulence knocking it off the tray. I've played it in handheld mode on several flights since it released with no issues, but I've never tried tabletop.

Unless you experience turbulence, I don't remember hearing any horror stories. As for connection problems, just turn on airplane mode and the "bluetooth (controllers only)" thing that only pops up after, you should be fine.

Flew to Indonesia on a combined like 17-18 hr flight and played Zelda with no issues. Also traveled around Indonesia from big cities to jungles far far away and as long as you have a plug (cause with Zelda even with all battery draining things like wifi, control rumble it only lasts like 3.5 hrs) its a dream.

So glad I got the official carry case. The stand set up you can do with the inside flap puts the Switch at a much better angle.

It might make your back hurt. I played it both handheld and with the stand and both times I had to sit awkwardly to the point my shoulders and back kinda hurt. In short so ymmv.

If you don't like the kickstand in the Switch there is one by Hori you can get it also leaves space to use the charging adapter, dunno how well the overall quality of the stand is tho.

I finally bought a generic USB to USB-C cable, and I'm curious to try out my current battery pack to see how well it charges my Switch.

I don't think it was made for USB-C in mind, so it will probably be pretty slow, but as long as it gets me a few extra hours (or at least charges it reasonably well while I'm not using it) I'll be happy.

You're not going to crash the flight, but if you want to comply with the airline's instructions, then do this:

Just got back from a flight with one. I wouldn't rely on the kickstand on the tray, very flimsy. You will have to take the screen part out for security like any other tablet.

You can enable Bluetooth for controllers even with airplane mode enabled. Turning airplane mode on basically just turns off WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC, but you can still enable any one or a combination of two of them after the fact and it would still say "Airplane mode On".

Ooh ... that is the first case I've seen that might tempt me away from my "wrap it in a microfiber cloth" travel strategy.

How much of a hassle is it to attach and remove the cover between trips? Does the front flap fold all the way back and stay out of the way when you're using it in handheld mode?

What type of adapter did you use? I wanna use my pro controller to charge the thing, but I am unsure what type of adapter I have. Would the one I have for my iPad work?

Guys from my experience it's best NOT to play the Switch and plug in a USB power bank at the same time.

The Switch just sucks all the juice out of the power bank while playing a game before starting to use its own internal battery. I've found it best to use the Switch's own internal battery when playing games, then when that runs out you charge that battery using the power bank.

Of course while you're recharging the Switch off the power bank you can't play games as the Switch is off/in standby mode.
