If I have to take sides between two games industry figures who are not on their best behavior (and I don't, but I will), I will weigh their respective contributions to gaming.
Phil Fish made a cool game that I quite enjoyed, and he certainly has the potential to make several more cool games. Making games is hard as fuck, and I respect anyone who can stick with a project until its done. His game contained nothing insulting or offensive, and I don't give a shit about his poor social skills.
Marcus Beer, on the other hand, offers commentary on video games (and the people who make them, unfortunately), which could not be more worthless in the grand scheme of things, especially given how easy it is to do and how many people do it. Marcus's job is to talk about entertainment and be entertaining, and when he's an asshole, that's inseparable from his "work" as a commentator.
I finally read the transcript of his statements thanks to Klepek's article on Giant Bomb, and he comes off as a pathetic, impotent nobody lashing out at people who actually create something worthwhile for a living.
