Football Manager 2013 - Pre Launch Discussion Roundtable

I absolutely plan to buy it on day 1. Waiting for Amazon to put up a preorder page.. they had it for $29.99 (rather than $39.99) right off the bat last year which was amazing. If they don't have any sort of deal, I might snag it from Gamefly since I get 10% off everything there.

I have played as Porto in FM11 and 12 and will likely do so again. I prefer the relative transfer freedom of the Portuguese leagues and it's fun to emulate real life and sell your guys for big bucks in a few years time. I always have a City save and an MLS save or two as well but focus on Porto.
 
I probably won't buy it day one. With FM12 I waited until after the second patch and a price drop and I still put 700+ hours into it. My current save is probably the best I've had in years (started unemployed in Ireland, worked my way up to the Juventus job more or less ten seasons later, won Serie A with them for the first time in 20 years, just recently lost the CL final to Arsenal on my first year back in Europe...), and I want to continue it for a while.

When I do give in, I'll probably use Pro Vercelli in FM13, since they're back in Serie B for the first time in decades.
 
Is the beta meant to come out Friday? A friend just said he is going to finally pay me back some money on Friday so I may be able to get it after all :D I really want to try Classic Mode!

I've never been offered a job at another team.. only International jobs. Certainly never in other countries. I am guessing it's tied to the number of countries/leagues you have actively loaded on the save?

The current official word on that is "end of the week", which could mean thursday, friday or saturday I guess.

You have to have those counties you want to manage in actively loaded, yes. I think I applied for all of these jobs as they became free, but sometimes you do get offers out of the blue, if your Reputation is high enough. More often you're just linked with vacant jobs in the media and you can signal your interest or not.
 
I'd like to be in a network game too :) At least we should try get a cup going.
 
Each day that passes worries me a bit more about those stupid GMG keys.

That is bad isn't it :( If the beta is coming out Friday why the fuck would they give us more information next week :/ I should of just taken the £6 hit on Steam.

lol, sorry. I didnt mean to mislead you, they posted that end of last week, so they talked about THIS week. But now wednesday is almost over and the Beta could already start tomorrow and we still havent gotten any word on the keys.

The Beta seems to be in a proper state already anyway, Miles Jacobsen gave away three copies of FM + Beta access yesterday that people can play already today.

I wonder why they can't send them out yet? SI stopping them seems unlikely given that other retailers have sent them out. SI withholding keys seems unlikely too because they gave keys to other retailers. It's a weird one /

Some smaller nice stuff like situational motivation comments as "With a win you can move into the top spot of the league" and some other minor improvements.

I really need to look up their licenses though, they showed some logos for the leagues and teams they licensed and I didnt see any German teams so I guess they still didnt get the license. I really hope the German league will still be playable though.

Oh :lol I was really annoyed for a while then haha. Seems better. I watched loads of the videos yesterday and I think I am going to start with a FMC run through and then a full run in network.
 
This is getting to be a bit of a joke from GMG now. If we end up getting the keys after the beta's already been released then it'll most likely be the last thing I order from them, discounts or not.

I agree. A swedish retailer has already started sending out beta-keys and here we are still left in the dark. It really is a joke.
 
I will wait to buy 13. Bought 12, had an awesome start as ajax, lost my save, haven't returned since.

Pm me for a code that gives 12% off zavvi (until midnight). Good for those pining for some fm.

I didnt say that, sorry for the misconception. Read my next post after the comment in question. However, it is still annoying that all retailers except gmg sent their codes already and people can already preload the beta, while we have no news on whether gmg even tried to contact sega about the missing keys.

No I´m sorry, thought that was you that had the info. But it is really strange that we have not received any info yet.

By the way I´ve followed the talk about a network game and I have a plan for a "draft fantasy multiplayer game" if there are enough people interested.

I would do the work in the editor. I would first create a "fake" country using a random league as a template (PL, BBVA, BL, Ligue 1 or Serie A). Then the involved gaf-players would create a name for the team, the pitch etc etc.

Then the gaf-players would act as "chairmen" where they would receive a money amount (not determined yet) to spend on a player + manager draft. Each "chairman" would then send me a PM with a bid and the player with the highest bid would win the player.

The players and managers in the draft would be randomized so it would´nt just be the best players in the world. After the draft the involved gaf-players would create a tactic template that would mirror how the "chairman" would like the team to play.

I would then stimulate and report the results. There would be an extra silly season where the chairmen would trade players, a cup and more.

This is just a rough draft how I´ve imaged it. Feel free to ask more and sorry for the bad english.

Cute idea, but that seems like a lot of work for stuff we dont actually "manage" or get to see even. Maybe a bit further down the line, but atm I'd prefer playing with a team up to a season start myself and then doing a cup round against other gaffers who did the same.
 
Since becoming a father six years ago, I haven't touched FM. This is the first version since then that I'm tempted by because of FMC. I'll probably wait until I see it on sale though.

Sounds good! Different from the norm too (multiplayer games). I've seen draft games on some other forums I visit and they seem to work well.

Do they? Well, I guess it cant hurt to try. I still imagine all the bidding via pm and player scouting without data filters to be quite a hassle. Ah well,we'll see.

These were more just draft games amongst the forum, i.e. pick a player each, each round, then members vote for the winners and so on. I think having the winners decided by the match engine could add an extra element to it. As you say, worth a try at least, but I agree it's going to be a lot of work to set up.

Yeah the draft would take some time but I´m currently unemployed so I have all the time in the world to be honest.

It´s a shame they did not include the editor in the beta so I could set up everything or at least begin.

Eh, of course they used many goals in that video so GK's look quite stupid if cut those together. I am pretty hopeful that GK still can make great saves if you play proper games and not only look at goal videos.

Random poster on the SIgames forum said that it will unlock at midnight too. Dug around a bit but no clue where he got that info from. Maybe the Beta preload on steam shows a time estimate... but no idea.

Is OK make a video just with goals, but for god sake, make the goalkeeper be a little less stupid, some of this the goalkeeper look just stupid trying to catch a low ball when the ball pass at his side. LOL
