Playing a slow burner unemployed career game. Was offered the job at Stalybridge. Seem to be doing OK. For some reason I signed Carl Cort... he picked up an injury after 3 games.

I cheated a bit and holidayed a fair bit of my second season at San Marino, I hardly managed to strengthen my team at all and knew it would be a another unproductive mid table slog. I thought John Carew was the answer to all my problems but I had to let him go after he failed to score in 6 months :*(

Managed to get some good youngsters in on frees this time and they seem to be doing the business so far in my third season, I just hope it lasts!

what kind of stuff do u guys usually do ingame? when i play my manager i mainly take care about transfers and the matches. besides that... nothing else. what do u usually do to improve ur team.

Can't seem to get any reaction from my players in team talks other than a couple "looking to switch off" whenever I try to compliment or motivate them. Could it be because my manager has no previous experience?

I also had two players arguing in my first team meeting lol. Never had that happen before....

Playing as Bayern, btw...

That is definitely a factor. I generally leave it to the assistant but if I win away I'm usually passionate but if at home, calm or assertive.

Had the same problem, part of me thinks it's a bug as it happens every single match and it's always 2 players.

Yeah... Just had my assistant handle team talks and even him couldn't get any significant reaction from my players, other than one time when my keeper reacted well during the ht talk.

Also just had Dortmund's Weidenfeller curl one into the corner of my net from a goal kick. lolwut

Other than that I'm really enjoying the 3d match engines improvements.

Your previous experience is highly affecting how the team reacts to you, especially when talking to a first league team. Lower league teams are more forgiving when your manager has less experience.
And please make a video of that goalkick :p

If you tell the whole team they're playing shit, even if they did ok, I found that usually motivates them better. And then you can tell the ones that played well individually that you're happy with them..

I find your assistant can be a bit cruel if you win away when you weren't a clear favourite so I always do that manually.

Everything.

Its actually a valid question. People just starting out might not know what else you can do to properly improve the team. Maybe something like focus training. I usually set all my strikers on focus training either quickness or finishing, depending on the starting stats.

Do you tweak your tactics? You should every now and then. For me if a certain player plays underwhelmingly for 10 matches straight, I change his playstyle.

And remember to keep discipline and talk to players. If a player gets a straight red, I always fine his wages for 2 weeks. Or if a player plays great (over 7.5 match average) for 5 matches, I praise him. If he plays 5 games under 6 average, I tell him he sucks.

Yeah, It's actually the first time I create an FM manager with no previous experience so that must be it.

About the goal upload - Youtube login doesn't seem to be working. Gives me a blank popup. And both export options are greyed out. I guess it's not working for the beta... I'll give a go at some other time.

Hey, Toma! Any tips for managing at the lowest level and going up? I want to try one as my Local team.

Eh. My greatest success story was with one of the lower league teams in Portugal. Picked randomly. Actually, it was a 3rd tier team. But basically, it was a semi-professional team, dismissing and signing an entire squad every season. Free players only. 0 budget. 6k wages per MONTH. That's like what, 1,5k per week.

I found better players than the ones I had on free transfers. As I performed better, specially my forwards, I could sell them for a price. First a miserable 50k, then as I performed better and played on higher leagues, I could sell them for a higher price. 250k, 500k, so on. All while getting better players on free, or for low amounts like 50k, 90k. I was able to invest on players for 1M after 5 seasons, and I was champion of the 1st division after placing 6th 2 seasons in a row. All of this took 6 seasons or 7, to be champion. I sold on player for 33M to Blackpool that I bought for 90k when he was 16 (he only joined the club when he turned 18 though). One of those rare regens that was incredible. And as I made money, I bought better and better players. I never spent more than 5M on one. I had losses every year, and sold players to make up for it. And one seasons... I won the CL. Just like that. Against everything. I had never gone beyond the last 16. I don't know. It just happened. All of the ties in extra time, or penalties, while being one man down, etc. Destroyed Bayern 4-0 in the final. All with not top of the class players, but good players.

Beyond having a winning tactic, take your time in transfer windows. Sell your key players that will make some money for you, and in return buy one that is just as good, but is free or costs less. Your players will be your assets. You need money to compete higher and higher, so lose as many hours as you see fit to make sure you have players that can guarantee you a league position and performance that will allow you to sell them when the seasons ends. Again, sell your key players, sell your best player, I always did, every season, and go fishing for another. You can ALWAYS find something. Just search and get the absolute best you can.

I found it to be easier than I thought it would be, as my first spell with such a low division team.

So how the hell do I upload a replay? I'm on a page which seemingly lets me pick the highlight I want, with a "by uploading to YouTube you agree blah blah blah" message at the bottom, but I don't see an upload button anywhere.

e: I guess it's disabled? It won't let me log in to YouTube on the profile page. Oh well.

Couldnt find many useful /affordable new players for my second season, effectively only 1 midfielder :/ Lets see how my Blue Bet South team holds up in Blue Bet premier.

I hired a Director of Football who brought me in some good players when I was in BBP league, also managed to get a few quality loans in too after my second season there.

Ah, thanks for mentioning. Totally forgot about that staff role.

Which stats are important for the DoF?

2nd year overall, 1st year Blue Square Bet Premier:

Not spectacular, but decent. Still rolling with almost the exact same team of the lower league. Lets see how far these guys get.

It's absolutely impossible to sell players in FM 2013 for me. No one will buy them, no one wants to take them on loan.. even with no costs involved! I mean come on, both Kleber and Kelvin are a 2.5* strikers and no one wants them on loan despite their minimal salaries? No one will buy or loan 3* CB Rolando even at a miniscule price with his $15k per week salary.. it's killing me. >< Completely hampering my ability to do anything in the market.

Use a Director of Football. Those guys are magicians when it comes to offloading players.

I was serious as well, but let me elaborate:

When I start a new game, first thing I do is check the complete staff, anyone with shite attributes gets a mutual contract termination offer, and I search for good replacements right away.
Then I look at my squad and decide what the best tactics would be for my best players, after setting that up I tranferlist anyone who is not needed at all, or are earning way too much money for their role.
When all my new staff is in, I go to the training options and setup the coach assignments so that all training stuff (attacking, defending, ball control etc.) have the highest star rating possible.

My assistant handles match prep btw. :)

Then the best bit starts, scouting players.
I usually do this myself by browsing u-21 nations, and foreign leagues like the serbian, russian, argentinian, brazilian and scandinavian leagues. (I always switch off attribute masking btw before starting a game, i don't like that)

Then setup some friendlies, starting with lower rep teams all the way to the final friendly, a homegame vs a topteam.

When it turns out my tactics are failing I use the assistant reports after matches to see what is going wrong, and if I feel changing some stuff might help, I will, otherwise I keep on trying with the current tactics.

Anyway guess this is it in a nutshell. :)

How can I use him to do that? Just continue offering players for loan or is there an ingame option to tell him to do that?

I think you can tell him to do it under staff roles, and also choose players too to set as 'unwanted' and he'll get rid of them.

On the player page click Transfer > Add to Unwanted List. Some parameters in there you can set like cheapest offer accepted.

Yep, a Director of Football is a godsend once you get used to using him. I've set mine to control almost everything for now to help time pass quicker, it's helped me win promotion to Serie B \o/

Convinced the board to upgrade my youth facilities and managed to get this guy in as my head of youth development:

Hopefully I'll start getting some decent regens now because I have no cash and bigger teams are after the players that got me promoted :(

Is the beta worth is btw guys?

Been reading about loads of bugs and such.

I havent encountered any game breaking bugs and I love the game. There are some small... lets call them glitches, especially in the 3D match engine. Game is far from unplayable or unenjoyable though.

I assume you can also set them to loan? I dont want to sell them.

If they're young enough you can click transfer and add them to your developmental list and your DoF will loan them out for first team football. If they're over 23 I think the option vanishes though.

Ok then, you convinced me to pre-order it tonight, so I can start the beta as well.

Already played for ...50 hours without any problems/bugs if that is of any help to ease your mind over this decision :)

My reserve squad got relegated yesterday and now they don't compete at all because there's no fourth division in Germany (in fm) and even though I signed a reserves (u23) manager I can't delegate anything to him (incl. the friendlies management) for some reason - shit's just grayed out.
So yeah: bug, I'd say..

/also not being able to send ppl. on loan even when you provide 100% of the wage is pretty damn unrealistic..

Not sure if this is a bug, there's leagues who don't have a reserve-competition at all and in those you need to setup friendlies to get your reserves playing.

Yeah, but even when they competed in the third division and I had a u23 manager/assistant manager I couldn't assign anyone to the post.
It sucks that the game goes down to like the fifth division in England (I think), but doesn't even go to fourth in Germany (Regionalliga).
There were patches for 12 to activate it.
Arranging friendlies is really cumbersome and I can't be bothered with that.

6 in England.

6 in England.
I sure wish there was 7 so I could take my glorious Blyth Spartans straight up to the premier league and beating your beloved Bayern and Dortmund in the champions league every, single, year. Guess I'll have to stay with FM12 for the yearly German smashings.
