Been glued to watching the streams, loving what i see.
Looks really smooth.
Love seeing peoples playing style. lol

Been signed up since they announed, and stuffing around killed my hype, thank the gaming gods for the Streams. Next Company who asks to sign up to their site for Beta. Get f'd

Ah, thanks. I swapped out to Orochi late last night and wondered why blocking didn't work all the time. I'll leave that class until I get the basics down a bit more. Glad it was something stupid that I was doing, as other than a few issues with the controls I do like what I've played so far.

The Orochi is a counter class, so you just need to time the block. A perfect timing will make the blade spark and you can do a counter attack that does a good amount of damage. The class is also fairly fast overall and some fights you can win by just changing direction with every hit, it gets hard to keep up with on the receiving end.

I've seen Most people playing the Vanguard classes, a number are trying out the Orochi and Berserker, but so far I haven't seen anyone play the conquerors.

Any impressions on what the "Heavy" class types play like? What's their quirk?

Any tips for conqueror?

Oh and fix the fucking Raider. There's so much environmental death. Just played a guy who was utter garbage yet won the best of three because of two stupid as fuck throws, it's utterly insane that on such small maps he can carry and throw you like that.

And it's stupid to think you'll counter all guard break attempts.

Played the 4v4 mode on PS4. A ton of network issues and the fps was like 5. Maybe Ill give it another go later but the first impression didnt wow me.

If I had to sum up day 1 of the For Honor Alpha in one word, it would be

Yeah, my timing just sucks at the moment. I've managed a couple of counters, but most of the time I mess up and try to block to late and take lots of damage.

I've been excited to play this for a good long while and I'm certainly not disappointed by it. It takes a little while to get used to the controls (I'd really recommend that everyone starts by playing duels with the Warden). Being able to just focus on the duelling mechanics allows you to learn the character to the point where a lot becomes natural, which helps a lot when the complexity ramps up in Dominion.

Ultimately I have to praise Ubisoft for creating something that really immerses you and makes you feel like a warrior. It's the first game I've ever played which feels reminiscent of the combat you see in a film, and once the controls click everything feels so natural. It's a beautiful game too. There's an area inside the castle in a circular room around a bezier, and I had a simply brilliant fight there, first defending from two warriors, only for a teammate to turn up, splitting the fight into two duels (there was something so natural about how this happened). Just fighting one, I was able to quickly finish my opponent and then double team the other. For a brief moment I felt like one of the great fighters from ASOIAF.

It's by no means flawless, but for a first try at something very new, it may well turn out to be revolutionary.

I wonder why this is still a problem.

"Capture the Flag" has got to be the second most used multiplayer gaming modes next to Deathmatch, almost every multiplayer game has some version of it and yet there are still people who don't know how it works.

It's not that they don't understand it, it's just that K/D - at least in shooters - is the main stat out there for most people. Most would be happy to go 24-3 and lose, that's why. In Capture the Flag it's the same, since K/D is a cross stat through all modes...
Games should stop showing K/D, at least in objective base modes, even in Battlefield for example to avoid this.

lol

Man I LOVE throwing people off the bridge and cliffs. Do they even care about positioning?
Haven't thrown anybody into the fire yet though.

Also, rage quit is a thing. Yesterday I 3-0ed someone three times (not in a row even, but almost, as he won me just the second of four matches) and just upon dying the last time he disconnected so on my last results screen it shows a bot. Fucking bastard, haha. I wasn't even playing good, recorded it and when I watched it I saw plenty of faults on my part.

After more than two hours I start playing bad because of tiredness. But then 2 hours is a lot for me playing competitive video games!

1v1 duel is the goat mode.

Dominion feels chaotic and cluttered and drops frames. Needs more work.

Brawl is fine too but duel is better. Maybe 3v3 with minions for ambience and no zone control shit, could be good.

Also, orochi for life.

Heavy is nice though, but I need to learn: conqueror and kensei seem both fun.

Vikings I didn't like.

Really cool so far. I can get into this. I always like dueling in Dark Souls so this is right up my alley.

Play 5 sets of matches straight out of the tutorial against someone and won two out of the five. Lots of learning in the matches and it was a lot of fun. One of the five was me getting tackled off the map 3/4 sets so that was a throw away match basically.

My wins were all sweeps so me learning what I did wrong in the last matches helped me to victory. I would sweep him and he would change characters so I would have to relearn everything again.

I like Warden at the moment so I'm riding it out with him.

I think I'm going to invest myself into this game, I think it's worth it.

Why is the release so far away though... it seems pretty much complete imo

By the way, you can do a jumping attack from bridges and other high points to one shot people, in duel it's not that useful but in the dominion mode it's extremely badass to jump into a middle of the enemy crowd and start bashing away.

I like how most 1-1 Orochi fights turns into who is gonna hit first (or rather, who isn't gonna hit first). You just stand there, looking at each other while doing a guard break every now and then hoping the other guy will hit so you can counter. :P

Footage of the unlockable executions here. Something interesting that came out of one of the Ubi live streams was that the longer the execution animation takes to complete, the more life your character recovers for performing it.

Hmm good to know. I would have preferred one of the hybrid types be available to try instead of two assasins. But 12 total characters seems reasonable to start with. I'm curious to see how much variety there is once you can actually select which skills you want.

GG indeed. When I saw and recognized all of your psn names I figured that I was in for a tough match :p.

I'm pretty sure we our blades clashed on the battlefield in that game.

PSN Parenegade.

Pretty fun although it feels rather clunky at times, alot of people just button mash so i just stood there and blocked until they ran out of stamina most of the time.

Some of the abilities feel too powerful aswell but i guess its because everyone are new to the game.

It has alot of potential

Whoever thought the default controls for blocking and changing targets should be CTRL and ALT deserves a slap. Especially when I have a multi-button mouse they can put those on by an auto-check. >:|

i played the tutorial and 2 games 2vs2. It is impossible to go against 2 enemies at the same time! I need to practice. The game is very promising though. Looking forward to the release date...

It's not impossible, you got mechanics to help you with it.
It just takes practice and of course sometimes the surroundings will just be against you.

Why would you think that?

If you're an Orochi that only hangs back and hopes that people are going to play your game, then you're doing it wrong and that might look like static and thus boring gameplay. Better players will instantly notice what you're trying to do and then you will get your ass kicked.

Be aggressive. The Orochi has plenty of tools to get up in someone's face, cancel your hurricane burst into the light version or guard break. Mix it up. Don't use the deflect counter all the time, use the sideway dodge attacks and whatnot. Use the dodge backwards followed by heavy attack (storm.. something I believe?) to counter a whiffed attack, use the top light attack and spin away. Etc etc.

Settle a duel in 10 seconds because you go ham.
