How do I hang on a ledge when getting thrown? Also some people do charge attacks on me and I have no idea how to do these. They have some red symbol with a lightning in it when attempted on you.

Raiders have a charge attack from pressing X while sprinting. The red symbol with lightning means that an attack is unblockable, so you either have to dodge it or interrupt it with a light attack. No idea about how to hang off a ledge - I think there's a button prompt, but I've never been fast enough to read and press it.

What the above poster said regarding the latest turning bolt attacks. What he didn't mention is that you can parry them too.

If you're on PC with a wii u pro controller, now is one of the rare times Nintendo's proprietary button layout is perfect for a third party game.

Played some more of the alpha after switching class, I can now play this game and I don't feel I'm awful at it anymore! I've got blocking down ok now, not perfectly but I'm not taking damage and getting frustrated at my lack of skill anymore! I played duels for most of my playtime, and its a great mode, fighting one on one against another human player, and managing to score some decent kills is very satisfying, I'm learning the different moves/cancels/counters now and the combat is opening up more. I like it a lot, I think I may well get this around launch, I'm loving the feel of the combat, I like the different modes included so far and I'm hoping the single player mode is great as well (the AI seems decent enough) as I could see myself playing quite a bit.

I keep trying to get my code, but whenever I try to log in to my uPlay account, it just keeps saying LOADING forever and never gives me the code :(

Did I need to re-sign up for the alpha? I remember I signed up for possible tests through Ubisoft's site months ago, but didn't get a code. Or were they only distributed to very select people?

Have they stated what game mode they are balancing for?

Like no way with its current abilities will orochi be balanced for more than one mode.

Guard breaking fucks me up every time. What do?
Guard break back immediately, dodge, or give them a little light attack.

Just gonna warn anyone playing the duels as samurai, watch out for any class that has that throw/tackle attack.

I'm running into quite a few people who are picking them, immediately running to the nearest environmental hazard (wall spikes, cliffs, etc.) and doing nothing by trying to get the tackle/throw into the hazard causing an instant win.

Best part? If you decided not to approach them and hold down areas that don't have easy access to environmental hazards, they can just wait. Even if you damage them more, when the clock runs out its counted as a tie.

So effectively you have this situation where you either:

-fight in a situation where you have a distinct disadvantage that leads to you losing instantly no matter how much damage you did.

-try and get them into an area with less environmental hazards, which they have no reason to do because...

-they (and you) can wait it out and tie the game. No one wins, but they don't lose.

Yea matches needed to be shorter, the player with more health wins. Too many "play my way, or we tie" heroes in the game atm.

How do you handle them?

so I know how to counter ;)

Who are you playing as?

This game is so fun to play. It was already a day one buy but this just solidifies that. Oh and I play nothing but Dominion, I think that's the go to multiplayer mode.

Matchmaking is a broken nightmare for people that aren't the group leader. Huge bummer. Being unable to private duel friends is so bizarre.

For anyone struggling with the game, I really think the Warden Vanguard is the best choice. It has a special ability to counterattack overhead swings. So when ever your opponent goes to attack high, you press high attack as well and you counter it and get two hits in. It's very effective because most people default to high attacks.

game is solid, maybe not day 1 but surely a buy for me

p.s. anyone having problem quitting the game? quit to desktop doesn't work for me, had to kill the process in the task manager

I always plays as the Viking Raider, and I always try to keep my distance, distance is so important in this game. As a Raider I gave no reason to let my enemy get to close to me because my reach is quite long with the axe.

Yeah, I have met a fair share as well. I don't really understand it to be honest. If it was the release it would make some sense, as they would get some exp and loot easily, but it's the alpha and everything will be wiped. Why are they even playing if they don't want to really play the game?

At the core of most fighting games, theres a RPS game in the form of attack, grab, block.
They are playing the game, some classes are going to want to use the grab more, because thats what their kit is designed to focus on, unfortunately the devs for some reason have made bizarre timeout decisions, which i assume will be changed?

I'm probably just bad and I don't know how to counter it well enough, but if they are anywhere near a cliff and I'm blocking, then they can simply break my block and throw me off the cliff and win. I don't know, it might be me, but I don't really like an insta-win in what is pretty much a fighting game at the core.

I'm talking specifically about 1v1 duels if it wasn't clear, it makes total sense to use that strategy in 2v2 or 4v4. It's just in 1v1 I don't understand it.

Haven't been able to play since I downloaded it last night.

"servers offline"

Have NAT Type 2. Playing on Xbox One. Wired. (Even tried wireless just for the heck of it).

Okay? Something being buggy is absolutely to be expected but something completely broken or omitted isn't. An alpha in the industry is feature complete unless we've redefined that.

Unlike most, this isn't a glorified demo, but an actual alpha. This is the 3rd test I have participated in and they've made significant improvements and additions each time.

It's a real alpha... It's 5 months from launch.
It wouldn't have gone through certification or content lock to ESRB yet at this point.

When games have, those are typically just server and balance tests. More marketing. This test should be E arly enough to impact content, if it needed it

Yes bit unfair with environment kills
But its best not to go near them

I use the shield guy so I've done it, good old shield bash to the pit or spikes

But people seem to be catching on though

But I do prefer the more open circle areas

This game is really cool. I wish I was good at it. I don't see myself putting in the time to be good at it, and probably won't be getting it at launch :(

The more I play duels the more it highlights how there need to be some round settings and shorter transitions between them. They can go so quickly that finishing the best of 5 and waiting up to 3 minutes for the next match becomes a real pain.

It's just its a bit annoying when I'm cutting the shit out of you with a sharp steel sword, something that would have most certainly killed you in real life, but because of the way damage is handled, is actually doing fractions of your health with every hit...

Meanwhile you have access to an attack that can hit me even if I'm guarding, and has no problems with being realistic when you instantly die from the fall or being impaired by spikes.

Like people have mentioned already though, shortening the time limit and fixing the easy tie situation should do the trick.

Lots of fighting game series have environmental damage and instant wins in the form of ring outs. Virtua Fighter, Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive, etc.

Knowing how to counter the guard break, and keeping in mind your own positioning are key.

Even with the beginner class I'm not feeling this at all. Probably doesn't help that the only mode Ubisoft will find people for me in is Duel mode and going against the AI is just plain bad.

Maybe the Conquest mode is better, but Duels is just blech for me. Either you both rush one AI and hope to smack it down or the other one takes care of it by themselves and then rushes to help you finish the other one.

I'm not feeling the three direction block system. You got like a millisecond to react to a direction change before eating a heavy-heavy-light.

This is pretty cool, as expected. The duels are fun, the full scale mode is appropriately frantic. But I can't run it above 15 fps...going to update drivers but it looks like I may be destined for the console version here.

edit, forgot i need ps+, guess i'll have to force it on pc somehow.
