For how long did you lurk GAF and when did you start posting?

Not really anything. I've known about GAF for a while, but didn't really visit except once or twice (or whatever) until I got a suitable e-mail. Then waited some time for approval and only then really started coming here.

I used to be a starred commenter on Gawker sites (how many site redesigns ago was that?), but after they removed that system and then when the weird stuff about Gawker's journalism practices started coming out I left. Nothing against you J.S!

Anyways, I've been lurking GAF for a couple of years, mostly during college. Was too broke to get a non free email, so when I got my work one I registered and it took another year or so to get to post.

Probably about a month, three weeks of that being the time from requesting an account to getting approved.

Ah...the Durango/Orbis days of 2012.

I lurked for about 4 years after my account became active. Browsed the board for a few years before that. Only started posting more actively in the past few months.

So for some reason I've seen quite a few posts these past couple of days about juniors saying they just started to post after years of lurking. Personally, I think I started to lurk GAF around 2004, but didn't join until 2007. Mostly because the IGN Boards were still my go to forum. So that's three years of stalking :p. Anyone else who have years of lurking?

I think that I started lurking somewhere around 2005 and joined 2007 myself.

I lurked for only a few weeks and tried to post as soon as I could. This coincided with a move across the country and the start of working from home. So GAF became my connection to others as I built up connections in my new city. Thank you, GAF.

The real struggle was finding a valid e-mail. I was a fan of the site for ~ 4 years before signing up.

Finally was able to join in late 2009 when I went to college. Since the search doesn't go back past 2010, I can't find the date of my first post. But I don't remember waiting long after being added to the site.

I'd been lurking for years, basically since I heard Garnett mention GAF in the old 1UP days. The Atlanta OT thread is what actually inspired me to sign up. I wanted to join a meet up and got approved roughy 6 months after it took place.

Probably shouldn't have signed up around E3.

Around 5 months, applied for an account that was approved about a week later. I hate that you can't use hotmail addresses, but oh well. I'm shocked so many people had to wait months for approval. I bet they didn't even get Gaf Gold on their account either.

A couple of years but I can't remember exactly. Came across GAF because the 1Up crew always talked about "GAF". Eventually I joined but it took months to get approved. New juniors have it good.

Been lurking since about 2002 / 2003ish when a guy I was sitting next to in my drafting class showed it to me.

That is a long time ago.

Oh god.

Lurked for 3-4 years cause I didn't have a valid email at the time. Finally got one and applied and got aproved I think 6 months or more later. Was super happy that day.

I'm so used to lurking that I still do it by default and rarely ever post.

I looked at it a few times over the course of about a year. Joined sometime in 2001. I don't remember waiting a significant amount of time to get approved.

I didn't really lurk, but it took me about 2 years for my account to get verified. I didn't bother coming to the site while waiting for that to happen because I knew it would just frustrate me to read and not be able to comment.

I never stopped lurking

i was impressed at some of the sporadic gaming hardware hacks that would show up, figured you were a bunch of knowledgeable folks worth joining.

I lurked for a couple years while I waited for an account approval that never came. Then I finally got another usable email address and was approved in like a week. It's been a (slow) roller coaster.

Took a year and a half for my fuckin account to get approved so that's how long I lurked

And they removed gif avatars like two weeks before I got approved. What a crock.

Off and on for a few years, then lurked daily for a few more as a lot of message boards or other internet places started to go in the toilet. Didn't get approved until a few months back after a six or so month try/delay/decline/try again situation.

GAF somehow flew under my radar for a really long time. I posted on SomethingAwful for a long time and I believe I clicked a link and found GAF. I remember my first impression of the site was pretty low, like on the level of GameFaqs, I thought the Games forms on SA was the place to be, so everyone else was a pretender to me. GAF grew on me pretty quick once I realized it was a legit form and it didn't take long for me to register. I believe it took a month or two for my registration to get approved.

I started lurking around 2013 and made an account at around the same time but didnt get an invite until 2014. I mainly came over because I was on the Gamespot forums since the early 2000s but they completely destroyed the community (first with Gerstmann leaving and then again when they completely redid the layout) and was looking for a new community.

Lurked for a couple months. Then just applied and thankfully got accepted pretty quick.

I would always hear Gaf references in several podcasts and was always like "wtf is Gaf?"

Looked it up and wanted to be part of it. Here I am.

Chock full of really smart, imaginative, and informative folks who have a passion for gaming which is what attracted me to the forum. Didn't feel like a weirdo for once for knowing what dev published what game when.

It's also full of folks who post the darnest things.

About half a year, but It only took a week for me to get approved after I signed up. Started lurking in early 2014 I wanna say, got my account that november. It was actually all of the gaf refferences in the super best friend cast that got me interested. I used to post on the ign forums for years but man, that community was never good and only got worst:

I started lurking when Dragona was still a mod. I remember her on NPD thread days. I think that would have been around 2008 or 2009. My account is from 2012.

So I was lurking for a good few years. I did try getting an account earlier than 2012, but I think my first email wasn't accepted or something. After not being approved after a few years, I tried again a few months later with my ISP email instead of my work email and I was approved only a few weeks/months later.
