For those who have an XBONE and a PS4, which do you prefer?

The fuck is the difference.
Whoa settle down there. The difference is I can get a sense of the gaming lineup the person prefers, doesn't matter to me personally which metric they use. People used to discount the PS4 lineup ("No games") because some games were on PC as well, well Xbox fans can't really claim that anymore considering all their first party titles are going to PC, so now we have to acknowledge all those games on Sonys console that are not on the Bone.

but the thread isn't asking about the PC though.

Ok so Console exclusive. Cool.

The One with Halo Gears and Forza.
Unequivocally the best first party titles to release this gen.
I actually threw away all my other consoles because it's so good.

Lol I am settled. I like bad words that's all.

My plan was:

- XBO for Online games + exclusives (better online performance + controller)
- PS4 for multi-platforms + exclusives (better games performance + faster OS)

now XBO for exclusives only < majority of my friends have PS4s.

The One with Halo Gears and Forza.
Unequivocally the best first party titles to release this gen.
I actually threw away all my other consoles because it's so good.
There was no Gears Of War released unless you're counting remasters, becuase if that's the case TLOU and GTA V are the best and nothing comes close. Also your opinion. There's nothing "Unequivocally" about what you said.

I have both. I got the XBONE first, and the PS4 second. Things I like and dislike about both. I got the XBONE first only because of amazing black friday deals.

XBONE is my primary console. The controller is a huge reason. The XBONE controller is an amazing controller, almost perfect for me. DS4 isn't bad, but it is not as comforatable, and the sticks aren't my favorite. I really like the voice controls from the kinect and love to snap mostly TV while I play games. I don't really like the Menu for the XBONE and install times are abysmal. That being said I don't really like the menu for the PS4 either, and while installs are faster, the wireless on it is not very good.

One of the bigger reasons for my to use the XBONE as my primary is that I am a physical media guy, and XBONE games are almost always discounted a few weeks to months after release. More so than PS4, at least in my experience. I think most of that is due to Microsoft being behind, but whatever.

My PS4 will get a lot more use when it starts getting some more good JRPGs, but until then my PSTV/Vita are getting more playtime than either XBONE or PS4...

I like the PS4 better. I'm still waiting for it to really deliver on games, but 2016 looks promising (particularly as an RPG fan.) And it does have Bloodborne. The Xbone... I still haven't used. I bought one thinking I'd need it for Scalebound, and assuming that other interesting games would follow, but those games haven't materialized yet and the stuff I wanted it for originally is all coming to PC. I guess there's still Raiden V? It's been underwhelming.

I prefer my Xbox one. I like the controller better, Xbox live has had better free games lately, BC, better exclusives so far that aren't remasters, and I really like the Windows 10 integration. Streaming games to my PC or laptop works flawlessly for me. I use that feature alot more than I expected. I haven't used my PS4 in quite a while.

And things were going so well.

How exactly is an inanimate object pretentious?

But yes, you dont play Sony first party for online features, this is known.

it is? aside from mlb the show, what what games with online features should I not be playing? Not counting launch problems that happen to every dev and publisher.

edit: I prefer my ps4. Due to my tastes in games mostly. I also prefer the OS , granted I havnt been on my xbox one in awhile so dont know how improved the dashboard is.

I actually sold my Xbox one in order to buy a ps4. The thing is I was constantly having problems with my xone, crushed blacks even after proper calibration, internet connection losses interrupting all activities because the console couldn't read the Xbox live mother ship for a mere minute.

Microsoft customer support was also complete garbage, when the fan in my power brick died after less than a year (on a wood floor with proper ventilation and dusting mind you) they refused to replace it for free stating I had to buy a new one. I know the above is more my personal experience and will not be the same for any other user but all of these things made my choice easier.

I really liked the games the console provided and no matter what any Sony fan tells you the one controller is miles ahead of the DS4. The interface on the xone while bulkier than the ps4 "xmb" was just more "fun" I wouldn't say that means better functionality just that I liked its look and the use of it more. I don't play online with my ps4 really but on the Xbox the friend and social integration was top notch, I especially enjoyed the mobile app which kept me connected to the goings on when away from home.

On the ps4 side of things there are also wonderful games, my ps4 also has zero hardware issues (albeit being a little louder than my Xbox was) and no problem staying connected to the internet. The hardware differences to me at least are negligible and the constant dick waving contest between the two is seriously pathetic when you consider the laptop/tablet parts both companies used to build these things.

In the end I would say there was good in owning both but that Sony won my dollar due to Microsoft's mishandling of my personal experience.

I liked my PS4 more when I had both... Except for the controller. I'm in love with the Xbox One controllers and have two that I now use exclusively on my gaming PC (no longer have the One).

I do not prefer either.

Both have some major annoyance. XboxOne's User Interface is the most amateurish I have ever seen on a console, PS4 noise level can match a launch Xbox360 at times.

EDIT: if anybody reads this, which one did you get first and do you think that influenced your current preference?

I got the XB1 first (at launch) and the PS4 about a month later. I don't think it's had much bearing on my preference. At the time I mostly bought the PS4 based on the "I'm gonna need one at some point anyway" logic, and didn't even have anything specific that I wanted for it besides Driveclub (which took faaaar longer to arrive than I was expecting). Outside of the games lineup, I'd say that the most prominent factors in the XB1 becoming my go to console were OS featuresets and my brothers owning XB1s and not PS4s. One of my brothers actually owns zero games of his own and simply shares my digital library, so amongst other things I'm more likely to pick up a multiplat game for XB1 if there's not a hugely noticeable discrepancy in performance. MGSV is the only multiplat I currently own on PS4, outside of PS+ releases.

Got the xbox December 2013 and got the ps4 January 2016. Probably gonna use the ps4 as my primary console for a while as I have a lot of catching up to do on Sony exclusives.

I don't think I prefer any as of right now but we will see how the games situation goes by the end of the gen. From the way things are looking it'll probably be the ps4.

PS4 is my main console, the Xbox One is used for exclusives but it seems kinda pointless now that Microsoft is releasing all of they're games on PC.

I don't own Xbox One but I work with it on a daily basis at work. The Xbox One UI infuriates me to no end. PlayStation 4 isn't much better, being unable to organize your games for two generations now. Xbox One controller is better than PS4 purely for its battery life. It has better build quality too, but that isn't saying much. Both Microsoft and Sony need to make their pause buttons more obvious. Prefer the Sony exclusives, not that there are many of them.

The Wii U has the easiest UI to navigate despite its flaws (why can't I change the system settings without the GamePad??).

Honestly, they all have room for improvement. It's gotten to the point where their primary selling point of "convenience" is outdone by the PC platform, not to mention better performance. I'll probably sell my systems to work when they need it.

TL;Dr: PC wins, with Wii U as companion. PS4 edges the Xbox One, but that isn't saying much.

Much prefer Xbone. It's quieter, the controller is more comfortable, and it integrates perfectly with my home theater system. I really enjoy the ability to pop out of a TV program and land on the desktop, or to watch TV and play games simultaneously.

It's quite something. I'm buying nearly all my games on Xbox despite the resolution differences, and only booting up the PS4 about once or twice each month.

Honestly, I think far too often a heavy preference is simply interpreted by others as fanboyism. When you remove the restrictions that would usually cause a person to automatically side with one over the other (like being a kid and your parents only buying you one), you're likely left with someone that vastly prefers one over the other for a combination of reasons. The person in question is probably pretty shit at saying what these reasons are... but they likely have them, they're likely very valid reasons, and the person probably wasn't simply baptised into one side at some point early in there life, with no option to "switch sides". These ain't football teams. :P
You may be right. It's just so frustrating to see skmetimes though. There's two of my mates that had both a PS3 and 360. They used to get in the most childish of arguments at times and make some seemingly petulant reasons not to play games or do things on the other platform despite owning them. I can understand preference and prioritising certain things over others. That's fine. But they'd same some silly things like laughing at the other when something went wrong for Sony or Microsoftz or feeling smug when theings went well. That also appied to stuff outside of gaming like Sony TV's and phones, Surface and other random stuff. I'm like you refuse to get a Sony TV just because it's from Sony but they'll begrudgingly get a PS3 for that odd game and the reverse held true for some Microsoft products.

I've seen similar things that even go further online at various forums including here. When a statement from Microsoft will be treated with disdain while they'll defend a similar one from Sony and vice versa. Yes you can prefer one product over the other, but if you actually own both platforms why go to such lengths to prop up or put down either company. I just can't attribute that to preference in a game, controller or system. Platform wars is the only thing that makes sense which is stupid when they own multiple platforms. It's like that person who isn't racist because they have black friend? It doesn't work as an excuse

Dude, no-one is being a fanboy/girl in here. Chill.
Oh yeah this topic has been perfectly fine and I wasn't necessarily anticipating anything either. Just responding to someone saying owning both doesn't mean that people can't still be platform warriors.

Xbox one is my main system. I find the controller to be better for most/all games, the online service feels more robust and consistent, and I do not have to worry about storage space since I can connect an external drive and I'm going all digital this gen. Have owned both since launch, probably play 60-70% on the XB1 since it's much most comfortable.

Got both at launch. Both have games worth playing and near feature parity so I can see why someone could prefer one or the other. I prefer the Xbox One for the library, but my PS4 has been great with Bloodborne and soon Uncharted 4. That said, I'm considering selling my PS4 after I complete UC4 if it is indeed the end of the Uncharted series, as it's pretty much the only PlayStation exclusive series I like.

But what if they have 2 black friends???

Xbox One mainly. Use it a lot more for it's applications and a bunch of exclusives. The PS4 only really has Bloodborne for me but I've played that to death now so I've got to wait for later on in the year to use it again.

I love my Xbox One more than the Ps4. I enjoy the ecosystem, the exclusives, Xbox Live and its features. Plus all of my friends since the Halo 3 days are still there and there is no game on PS4 like Halo to keep me turning on the console.

I do get exclusives on the PS4 though.

Well all I play lately is Xbox because of Halo 5. I love my elite controller, I love the way I can manage videos and send message on the Windows 10 app.

PS4 is better for multi-plat, but I get those titles on PC.

Honestly I haven't touched my PS4 in ages, just waiting for Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted.

I can't understand why people complain so much about the "start/select" situation on the newer controllers the buttons are quite literally set up just like they always have been they just moved them (more drastically in the ps4 case but not horrible) and renamed. Start and Select have literally always been set up right and left of one another, the muscle memory is intact and I think that with something like a gaming input device that muscle memory goes a long way.

Pause on the right, select on the left. Its not hard.

I had some really bad experiences with Customer support too. My first Bone was super loud and made this whining/clicking sound, it was unbearable. I called in right away to get it replaced (November). I chose the advanced swap option where they authorize your card and you get a new one in the mail and ship the old one back. I got my new Xbone in January! They couldn't figure out why it wasn't shipping. Now imagine my Bone was a dud, I would have been screwed.

Then...I bought a 3 month Live prepaid card. It scanned at the place, I had the receipt showing activation but on MS's side it said its not active. I called them and they basically told me it was the stores fault and the store wouldn't do anything because the receipt showed it was scanned. So I lost 24 bucks.

I really liked the games the console provided and no matter what any Sony fan tells you the one controller is miles ahead of the DS4. The interface on the xone while bulkier than the ps4 "xmb" was just more "fun" I wouldn't say that means better functionality just that I liked its look and the use of it more. Can't agree with the controller, the analog sticks are simply too loose to be accurate or comfortable with. It's like companies switched analog sticks from last gen. Outside of the sticks, the Bone controller is pretty good but I would say the buttons are better on PS4, the L1/R1, the touchpad comes in handy with menus and the share button is a big deal for saving media.

The interface for XB is terrible but I do think the new one really nailed inviting friends and setting up parties. Hovering over a friend and just pressing one button is smart, Sony should definitely incorporate that. With that said, once you are in a party I still prefer the look of the PS4s interface and the options in there to prioritize chat volumes and so on. Or even holding the PS button gives you the mic volume options, its simply more intuitive.

I disagree, while the CPUs are shit in both, Sonys GPU is respectable as is the architecture and the 8 gigs of faster ram. In 2012 when people were speculating next gen hardware, no one really guess more than 2 gigs of ram and nothing above like a 6850 Radeon. Sure tech moves fast but for 2013 its respectable imo.

Lol I am settled. I like bad words that's all.
Lol no worries :D

Xbox One. I used to split multiplats between both of them but ever since that elite controller came out i've been playing everything on Xbox One.

Xbox One for exclusives, controller (for fps games or anything that heavily uses analog sticks), multiplayer gaming/my friends and it's media capabilities (it's hooked up to my bigger TV).

PS4 for single player experiences, Street Fighter (HUGE deal for me), 2d games (better dpad), and indies. Usually better for multiplatform games too due to higher resolution.

Love em both. If a game is equal on both in terms of performance then I will usually get the Xbox One version due to me having a much bigger social presence on the Xbox ecosystem (more friends + way more achievements unlocked). Not to mention the better UI with more small features. Shout outs to my Wii U also.

I prefer Xbox One and use it more, I got it first and then got a PS4 in February 2015.

The OS (both the old one and new one) and general features I prefer like achievements over trophies, the controller is significantly better (imo and now I have an elite controller its perfect), I prefer their exclusive franchises which are also the games I play online most

Achievements, Xbox Live and controller are why I get multiplats on XB1 over PS4 but I am intending to buy more PS4 multiplats if I'm not bothered about the achievements and its not a multiplayer game

I play online with a lot of friends in America and my experience of partying up with friends cross-region on PSN has always been tragic.

PS4 is a good console though, I have enjoyed some of their exclusives and I will be getting Ratchet and Clank + Alienation next month, just bought the Quantic Dream collection... i'll get Uncharted perhaps in June/July if its dropped a price a little bit (I much prefer TLOU when it comes to ND games), I am hyped for Horizon as well.

PS4, just got it yesterday. The only game I have for it so far is Bloodborne.

Waiting for FFXV, World of FF, KH2.8, KH3 and Last Guardian.

Almost all of my gaming is on PC.

Yea, I'm not trying to suggest that there isn't some incredibly petty and illogically biased shit the gets posted here.. and a lot of the time I feel that's due to the person in question viewing the landscape with a kind of zero-sum logic. I've seen plenty of posts that talk about wanting MS to leave the console space, so they can get back to Nintendo and Sony because everything was apparently so amazing during the PS1/PS2 era where they had the market almost entirely to themselves. It's flawed logic though, because it ignores that the gaming landscape isn't the same as it was back then, and won't be regardless. Having one console causing de-facto exclusives wasn't the reason we saw many of the creative games from back then.. it's because they weren't nearly as expensive and risky to produce, regardless of platform.

The thing is though, when it comes to console wars polluting threads... it may seem counter-intuitive, but threads such as this are often the least crippled by it, simply because it's directly asking everyone "why do you prefer this console?", so the poster should not only own both, but is encouraged to actually explain the reasoning behind their preference rather than simply trying to shoehorn "it like this console more" into a topic that doesn't warrant the comment.

My Xbox One gets nearly all of my playtime console wise.

My main reasons are:

  • Games
  • Controller
  • UI
  • External HDD support
  • Snapping media such as Twitch is great
  • EA Access
  • Windows 10 streaming (Looking forward to the PS4 getting the same support, I've been using the unofficial version since it's release)
  • The console is completely silent (My PS4 is pretty loud, even after applying new thermal paste)
  • Chat quality is fantastic
  • The Kinect is great for family Skyping and UI navigation
  • HDMI passthrough
That's not to say the PS4 is bad at all, it just doesn't suit my needs as well as the Xbox does. I still use it for exclusives or to play with certain friends.

oh man, you're doing this in another thread

The fact that you cannot handle someone's thoughts if they don't state "in my opinion" is hilarious.

But even funnier? That post you responded to was a joke....

I bout a 1-year PSN code and literally never used it over years as I waited and waited for a PS+ game that seemed worth it (GWG wasn't much better, but it was enough to have gold).
Heh, SAME thing here (14 months offline)! I bought a 1-month subscriptions for rocket league and geometry wars on vita in between though and activated my 12 months-code now in december to buy PS+ deal games, ps+ monthly line-up was getting a little better too this year.

Right now my Ps4 but once Fall/Winter comes around I'll go back to X1.

It varies by the season, last year I liked PS4 at this time(Bloodborne) then went to X1 once Madden came out.

Xbox only because of that's where my friends are too. I haven't bought a PS4 game in over a year. It actually is starting to bother me. I need to pick up some games for it.

My favourite bit was how he doesn't even bother to clarify TLOU and GTAV being "best and nothing comes close" as an opinion, whilst not being able to deal with someone else's.

For gaming ps4 wins, but my Xbox gets more use because of it's excellent media features.

PC generally better than both. Just have them for exclusives, and xbox mainly for one guide, groove music, and excellent selection of streaming apps that work with directv.

Top Bottom
