Forza Horizon 3 is now up for preload on PC

The windows store deleted 44GBs of my preload, started all over again and now it won't even utilise all of my bandwidth instead its bouncing between 100 and 0% every two seconds. Just great stuff all round
 
Seriously if i am downloading to my OS drive where are the files so I can delete them and try from fresh? always at 6.03 gig its pissing me off..
 
The windows store strikes again.

A shame as well, there is genuinely good some good games on it now. For a software company (OS no less) to be this poor is unbelievable.
 
I can't install any game from the windows store to any hard drive but my boot drive. And since my boot drive is a SSD with 30gb of space left, it means Microsoft gets no money from me for games until they fix this.

press start<settings(above power)<system<storage<new apps will be save on and select where you want the apps to install

It will also ask you where to install the apps when installing
 
Second time my download has restarted now.

This is horrible.

At this point I'll need someone to burn the files to 6 DVDs or whatever, ugh.
 
Seriously, this has put me off buying Sea of Thieves. It's the only game I care about that I know is coming to this store, but if things aren't improved by then I will give it a miss.

I've done this. Trying to install to any other drive other my boot drive gives me an error when I start the download.
 
Watching my latest attempt. It isn't writing at all to the SSD, which is good. Connection is taking full advantage of the 100mbps available with drops every so often. Up to 9 gigs.
 
I remember i just left my pc to download fh3 and ki update overnight. Didnt really watched it. Even had ki paused, then when i checked it resumed download just fine on its own.

might be related to KI being normal appx container and FH3 being in the encrypted one
 
Installation complete. What I did different this time is actually delete that 3.8 mb file that it had downloaded a few days ago as a sort of placeholder. After that, it took me a little time to start the download but when I did there were no issues.

Forza Reddit Troubleshooting FAQ

Error 0x80073CF9 when preloading or downloading on PC. It will download a portion and then crash. Follow these steps. 1. WINDOWS and X keys together and then click on Command Prompt (Admin). Click Yes to the User Account Control message that appears. Restart your pc, go back in the store and you should be able to download. Type the below commands to run:
net stop wuauserv
rename c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old
net start wuauserv
If any of the above commands fail, you will need to start your PC in safe mode and run the commands.

Does anyone know if the Windows 10 Store prices are region specific? The game is listed as $59.99 but I don't know if that's CAD or USD. Definitely going to bite tonight if that's Canadian dollars.

It's 79 CAD.

Maybe you've got a US account logged in?

THe cheapest places were HK and Singapore, but you only saved about $10 compared to CAD.

I agree. It sucks for people that it's not working for. The preload feature is relatively new (only other app with that feature has been ReCore and that came out last week). MS surely needs to fix that fast as people have bought the game for early access. I do have concerns around people who aren't preloading (since they bought in a store in a region where it's available) that are having the same issues.

They definitely need to fix these issues with Gears 4 around the corner as well. We shall see. Sucks for those with issues.

Hmm. I wish I had money to buy the game to see if I have the same issue, granted I'm running on a Insider Preview build of Windows 10. I'm currently downloading ReCore to my PC just to see if it will fail (I know the game won't play, just seeing what the store will do. I haven't had issues with the Store, downloading apps in a couple of months). I've seen people get errors where they would just close the window and the store would stop downloading (I tried that, did not happen...haven't ever seen that). I've seen error codes before but that was a long time ago. It's very interesting what is going on. I wish I could help. Sorry.

I presume that most of the issues are dealing with preloading/unlocking, which is a new feature of the store. The only other title that had it was ReCore (IIRC), and that isn't as popular as Forza, so a bigger pool of different configurations. If I were MS, in the Insider Builds, I would have had a public preload stress test. But that's me thinking as if I was at work (dev/tester).

Hi folks,

Multiple players have reported an issue where downloads of Forza Horizon 3 on Windows 10 continually restart, and are not yet completed. For these users, we have received two workarounds that may possibly address the issue:

1) Installing the game to a non-system drive
2) Or wait until the game is fully released in your region, cancel the download, then restart the download.

We will continue to investigate this issue and will update the community with new information when it is available.

I knew my testing skills didn't deceive me and figured that the issue is related to the preloading being "tested" on live code with all these different configurations. MS definitely should have gotten insiders to test that code more thoroughly. :(

This worked for me, but I didn't even risk trying to pause and resume it. Just left it downloading over night and I was surprised it didn't randomly restart.
