Forza Horizon 3 PC Demo is out

It's a great game. Yeah, PC performance is not what it should be, but still a great game.

Aside from Surfers Paradise, my PC can get a constant 60fps with ultra settings during most of the game. In Surfers Paradise it will dip into the 50s and 40s and yeah it's annoying. 6700k, n1080, 16gb, SSD, 2560x1080 IPS. What I've been doing is running it at 30fps locked at 5120x2160 super resolution with all ultra settings. Never drops a fame or stutters, looks incredible, and plays just fine at 30fps.

Yeah, we all wish we could buy Forza, Gears etc on Steam, but that's not gonna happen. Suck it up. It's only a couple of games and they're so good it's still worth it. Throw Killer Instinct in there as well.

I have the exact same card. Get it while it was on sale? I've been curious about this game as well. Both my old 390 and the Fury perform terribly on it at launch.

Yup 265 after tax. Not a bad price. A big jump from my 270. Not the end of the world if this one game doesn't run well. Everything else seems to

Holy crap is the stuttering bad on my system (i7-5930k @ 4.4, SLI 980's though it only uses one obviously, 16 GB RAM). This is at 1440p on Ultra preset. Haven't fooled around with the dynamic options to see how that affects IQ.

It looks oh so gorgeous but man is it a stuttery mess.

Turn off the in-game DVR if you haven't already.

i forgot the pc is a 1.3 tflop gpu with a super weak mobile cpu. Great point, thx for the reminder. Enjoy that input lag exclusive to the pc version when capping at 30 fps too
As opposed to your "great point", which is something like Playground should have made an exclusive PC demo to show off Surfer's Paradise?

There's nothing nefarious going on here, your paranoia is a little ridiculous. Weren't you arguing they wouldn't even be releasing a demo anytime soon only a month ago?

And for the record I actually saw some of my worst performance in the game in the early game demo sections. The first race in particular performed disastrously, and until fairly recently I had major hitching in Byron Bay, almost as bad as in Surfer's Paradise. If Playground was really cherry-picking they would have made the PC demo exclusive to the Outback sections.

i5 3570k, GTX 970, 16GB RAM. 1920x1200 at the High dynamic preset can mostly, but not always, sustain solid 30. Normally I'd be okay with that (though 60fps seems completely impossible, to my chagrin), but any framerate that isn't 30fps or 60fps seems to introduce this really bizarre control wobbliness, as if the driver behind the wheel was drunk or something. The best way I can think of to describe the effect is a sort of burstiness--like, when trying to take a turn, there's an initial bit of lag before I turn in, but then the turn gets really severe, so I feel like I have to compensate. Trying to make gradual turns feels weird because the rate at which I turn seems to vary as well. It doesn't seem like garden variety input lag, but maybe I just never experienced input lag this severe before and this is actually what that feels like? Anyways, trying to play at 60fps lock results in framerates only slightly above 30fps and the weird drunken feeling; locking at 30fps is mostly good but starts to feel weird as soon as the framerate sinks to 28fps or lower. It's playable so long as the framerate is locked, but the weird control issues are totally new to me. I don't know how to feel about it, except to maybe look into some tweak guides tomorrow (or not, since I'm leaving on vacation the next day and so don't really have time to do a lot of fiddling).

Downloading the demo right now and hopefully it's not as bad as I think it is.

I mean c'mon MS, Windows is your platform.
Your didn't screwed up this time again, did you?

My target is 60fps, high settings with no AA and no major issues.

Let's see if I can achieve that with my GTX 970, i7 4790k, 16gb DDR3 2400 and game is installed on the SSD.

If your cpu can hit at least 4.5 and you leave geometry setings on medium youll be close but you will still stutter frequently

Digital Foundry couldn't even do it reliably with like a 6600k.

You can probably get something like that, though make sure you do dynamic high settings. I got close to that with a slower CPU and using AA (game looks kind of bad without it), though it was temperamental enough I ended up just locking it to 48fps. (Which hasn't given me any unforeseen input lag problems, just for the record.)

This game will demo really well. I had a blast for a weekend and then got bored with it. Performance issues also never got fixed for me. At least now people can try it out and see how it performs before buying.

Hmm demo crashed after the intro video stuff (presumably just before you get to actually play)

This will be annoying as the video seemed unskippable

So no HDR PC demo sad
No. Windows doesn't support HDR yet, it should be coming early next year.

If you see HDR on a PC game before that, it'll be a vendor exclusive version, such as exclusive to NVIDIA cards. Not exactly ideal. NVIDIA's solution also requires you to make a few adjustments before you can enable HDR.

It's the north east area that runs bad. And the rainforest area in the centre. Races at night and rain in these areas are the worst.

I "sucked it up" for KI and wasn't worth it. If they don't turn their store into something at least vaguely close to their competitors, I'll just skip the game.

Shadow Warrior 2 ?

seems like game is great, port is baaad and the store is still abomination :-(
...xbox app crashed twice before was even able to run the demo .... love how i have 20 gigs free space on the C:/ where i have the demo installed on and while playing FH3 demo windows tells me that i dont have any free space left :-D

I was about to press the "get the game" button , but it is greyed out and then i realize , i am still on Windows 7. Damn it.

With dynamic setting (on high) FH3 can't keep steady 60 fps all the times (especially with many cars on screen) on gtx 970 and i5-3570@4200Mhz, sigh.
Also where is all this "screenshots" which i make with photo mode, gone for good?

Try the 'Rain Forrest Escape' street race if you want an example of how shitty the performance can get. There are quite a few races that will drop under 60fps with lots of cars on the screen (spray/dust everywhere) on 980Ti grade hardware.

Damn I really want to try this but I am still avoiding the latest Win10 update bceause it breaks my PC.. oh well i'll get to it eventually.
