Forza Horizon - Fall 2012 - Developed by PlayGround Games

TDU2 still has roads with defacto barriers. Usually houses/buildings/parks/etc with impassible walls all around.

While TDU does let you go hog wild out in the brush and mountainsides its not the greatest experience. Tree, rock, indestructible bush, repeat.

From what I've seen I gather its along the lines of NFS: Hot Pursuit and Burnout Paradise in terms of open-ness. Basically constrained roads, with wider intersections and crossroads and shortcuts, along with larger but still contrained set-aside areas where you can drive wherever.

Would love to see some gameplay videos and commentary with all assists disabled.

Also, I wonder if the racing line is the only way to navigate. Looks like if you challenge another racer on the road it will create a point-to-point race and drop the racing line in. As somebody who doesn't like a giant line on the road I'm hoping I don't have to rely upon it to understand where/when to turn.

That's forthcoming, he said.
Awesome. Looking forward to it :)

Bullshit. One of gaming's greatest experiences is beasting a Hummer down a golf course in TDU2.

Well, hoping it is not, because that one would be a greatest dealbreaker ever.

However, I presume map will be the guide with line off.

If I remember correctly those golf courses are large and act as impassable barriers along the road, except for one entrance. Once inside the course you can drive around to your heart's content. I think we'll see stuff like this in Horizon.

What I don't expect to see is just a lot of free roam emptiness where you can go offroad into the wilds most of the time.

Ahh I forgot about the minimap guide thing. That could work, but in-the-world representations for turns would be even better.

I remember going quite literally *anywhere*. I recall some of the cut-and-paste houses might've had gardens surrounded by fences and some building with car parks that couldn't be accessed, but other than that you could literally drive *everywhere*. To be honest, I think any game that provides anything less than that openness will always come off less favourably in terms of being "open world".

It was those random moments that I just loved. Driving along a beach at full noise, deciding to drive off a cliff just because you could and finding a road you hadn't discovered before, just great stuff. Makes me want to fire it up again!

Anyway, I digress. Horizon. Fences. Not as open world as some people thought. Not just a matter of being blocked off from things like creeks and ravines to prevent people being stuck, but what looks like pretty much anywhere other than where Playground/T10 say you can go, it seems. Everyone who has played TDU will compare it to that and FH will come off second best in that regard.

I don't think the racing line is for navigation stuff since you can turn it off. In the video you hear the GPS lady, but I did not see any arrows or the likes.

edit: yeah random moments in TDU... don't get me wrong I loved that game, but getting catapulted off the road because there was a polygon in the road just a little bit off - was not fun ;)

Whatever's included in the season pass, it's doubling the price of the game just so that you get the content back that they took out of the full-priced retail version.
Yes.

It's fucking GENIUS is what it is. You have to admire their balls.
No.

This is the future of gaming, people. Get used to it.
Only if you allow this shit business model to go on without expressing your displeasure by not buying. People whinged about FM4 DLC and still bought it. MS/Turn10 know this and as such FH gets the same treatment.

Horizon looks like a fun game but I'll wait for a price drop.

Only problem with no tuning is that there will a best car like in PGR and it will make all other cars useless, even if they keep to classes like C, B, A there will be one dominant car because no tuning is allowed.

I hope they are doing something about that.

I hear a lot of dubstep...

To be expected it being the flavour of the dance scene ATM, but lost prophets, stone roses etc make an appearance, listening to something in the vein of old school house ATM which is a welcome change of pace, but it seems quie balanced on my shuffling through.

That's the thing with flavour-of-the-month stuff though... it dates a game to a very specific time. Potentially to a point where it's before release (in this case here IMO). Something like a dynamic radio would be even more awesome so there's always new stuff (and could be a good revenue stream from record labels) on top of what's included on disc. But yeah, dubstep is always going to get tired fast. I'll be custom soundtracking the shit out of this... as long as it's not just played as an overlay and integrates with the game.

Look, if I can find it cheap enough I'll probably preorder the LE (~$65 would be my upper limit, I think) but otherwise it's vanilla UK import for me. And no DLC.

That was just from that video, though. Hopefully there's at least stuff like bodykits available. Limited upgrades does sound familiar, maybe they're just factory spec ones, like upgrading the engine from one Mustang to one from a more powerful Mustang.

But this one should be easy to skip on DLC, I think. With FM it seemed actually worthwhile (possibly because of the false hope that enough support would warrant track DLC) but given I didn't touch 90% of the cars in FM4, there's even less chance I'll use any of the ones that they provide post-release.

MightyApe AU has the LE version for $68 which is just over your upper limit.

So who'd be fitting the bill to the record companies? Sales won't cover it or are you hinting at having adverts to create another revenue stream? As everyone would get tired of ms over selling ad slots and custom playlist the shit outta it and itd be a failed experiment...

Season Pass includes the expansion pack, no? (whatever that is).

wasn't that known from the start? I always thought there are upgrades, but no tuning.

I dunno, record companies would pay to have their music in the game?

If it was gt6 then maybe just maybe the game would have enough sway, but as its a streaming radio style thing I'm fairly certain the record companies would just say erm pay us or have no licensed music.nsomething about them liking money

Yes the season pass includes the expansion pack due out in Dec.

Again that's correct. The cars in Forza Horizon are upgradable (plus you can change the cars appearance with bodykits, new rims, etc), but there is no tuning à la Forza Motorsport 4.

I'd just like to know, why would people buy a season pass that includes an expansion pack that we nothing about?

Why not just let people know what it actually is...why the secret?

Maybe it's just me but it doesn't make sense..

I didn't even know there was going to be an expansion dlc, I don't trust season passes yet, not after some of the bull which has happened with most of them so far.

Especially ones that cost as much again as the game itself.

4,000 Allards. I still don't quite believe it.

I'm definitely waiting a month or two for the inevitable price crash.
