Founder of Popeyes chicken dies

I used to buy the biscuits quite often, but I didn't like the chicken so much. Way too greasy (So is KFC's). Still, enjoyed the place, especially after hearing so many horror stories from people that worked at KFC.

I miss the Popeye's Chicken I had at the last Air Force Base I was at (Misawa Japan). I'm in Montana now and all I have is a friggen BK (on-base) and KFC off-base.

I want my friggen Popeye's Chicken.

In a last-ditch effort, Copeland chose a spicier Louisiana Cajun-style recipe and reopened the restaurant under the name Popeyes Mighty Good Fried Chicken, after Popeye Doyle, Gene Hackman's character in the film "The French Connection."
Wait a minute, what?

I'm pretty sure mom has a collection of Popeye the Sailor collectible mugs that she bought from Popeye's chicken back in the 1980's.

Well, they did use the Popeyes' character in the 80s. I got many a kids meal with weird characters, and by weird, I mean what they were made out of.

Now this, this is popeye's
omg

The best fried chicken out there. It's so delicious.

Goddammit you bastards. It's like 1:20 am here and you're making me freaking hungry! I strove to not eat past midnight too!!

You can't really go back to eating KFC after trying Popeyes. And those biscuits...I could eat just a plate of them. Getting an extra order of biscuits is a tradition whenever I go.

Wow, I just had Popeyes chicken a few hours ago for dinner. It's a shame he died. I bet Al and Colonel Sanders are sharing their recipies up in heaven right now.

I visted one of his houses once, it was modestly sized but right on lake ponchatrain. He had various boats that scaled in size with the different Popeyes characters. The smallest boat, which was really tiny, was sweet pea.

The biscuits are tasty and the mash with that special gravy is good as well. Heck I even like the red beans and rice.

Sucks that they closed all the Popeye's around here, I'd say it's easily the best fast food restaurant ever. KFC doesn't even come close (too greasy and not flavorful), Pudgies is OK though.

Their Red Beans and Rice is Heavenly! RIP

I am going to have to get a 3 piece in his honor.

Good to finally get the story behind Popeye's and Church's. Church's has to be the greasiest chicken on the planet.

i don't really see why the proper way to honor him and his cooking is to lash out at kfc.

does popeye's only do deep frying with their chicken, or do they make a pan fried variety, too? i guess the primary thing i see differentiate kfc o.g. recipe from a lot of other fast-type chicken is that the pressure frying thing produces a crust that's more like a pan fry (thin, adheres to the meat, when homemade has dark spots) and less like a deep fry (very crunchy, but often easily separates from the meat when eaten). the difference can actually be demonstrated within kfc's own menu, between original recipe and extra crispy--the latter is just a deep fried variation of the former.

*sniff*

I'll have to get a 3 piece this week.

oh... arguing about fast food restaurants... each location is different. It's all about the staff and their execution. So lets have some respect for Popeye's family. There are children involved.

Loved eating Popeyes Chicken while in the States.

The Chicken Rolls, Biscuits, Chilli Fries topped off with a Dr Pepper was just awesome.

Shame theres no resturants in Australia. Only KFC which = suckfest.

RIP.

Man I love me some popeyes. I grew up on this stuff. I remember going to the popeyes by my old house as a kid and not being able to see over the counter. When me and my family would return from out of town our stop right before heading home was some good ol popeyes. Im going to have me some chicken today. Oh btw for those of you that have eaten popeyes before they actually changed the recipe on the biscuits. Believe or not they use to be better than they are now.

Dammit!! Why'd I have to pick today to start dieting!! Threads making me hungry for some fried chicken(don't care if it's Church's, KFC, or Popeyes though).

I remember those news stories of the garish Christmas displays, now. Never realized it was him back then.

Everything Popeye's makes is awesome. Cajun rice is great. I really wish they'd bring the Cajun Turkeys back; those were some of the best holiday meals I've had.

Popeyes is far greasier than any KFC I've ever had.
This is weird to me.

I can actually digest Popeye's. KFC runs through me like a sieve.

Tragic :(

Popeyes is so much better than KFC. The thing that sucks is that it hasn't grown to the point to where it is as common as KFC. So the nearest Popeyes is about 120 miles away.

The ones around me still do it. Seems to be up to the region though.
