Four in August - Backlog Declassified

Ok, let's try :D

Persona 3 FES (PS3)- It is a long game, but i am on October already :P
Luigi's Mansion (3DS)
New Super Mario Bros U (WiiU)
The Last of Us (PS3)

-> I also plan to play a lot The Bureau (PC), Spelunky (PC), Papers Please (PC) and Dont Starve (PC), but actually they arent part of my backlog.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (on the last case)
PW: AA Justice for All
PW: AA Trials and Tribulations
Tales of Xillia (English version)

Finished the first Ace Attorney game. Going to try to get through as much of Justice for All as I can before my copy of Xillia arrives from Amazon tomorrow.

My backlog is ridiculous right now.. All except for one on my first list are all fairly new games.. I've just been distracted by other games (usually just multiplayer stuff with friends that're not necessarily games that you complete) lately and haven't had a chance to really dive into them.

Deadpool (PS3)
Dead Space 3 (PS3)
Metro: Last Light (PS3)
Saints Row 3 (PS3)

Saints Row 3 down!

Just discovered this thread a few minutes ago and I think I can do this.

Shin Megami Tensei IV - Still need to finish up all the sidequests before the neutral ending. (so close, I can feel it)

Soul Hackers - I probably need to grind up another 10-15 levels with my MC and Nemissa to even stand a chance against the Lord of the Flies and unlocking that sweet sweet NG+. More demon fusion and cyberpunk await me.

Project X Zone - Started becoming a little too repetitive for my liking and once SMT came out it went straight to the backlog. Time for more fanservice!

Fire Emblem Awakening - Sure I beat the main story but the game isn't totally beaten until I complete all of the Paralogues and every non-DLC character in my party. Time to grind and pray to the RNG gods for good level ups.

Ok I've just been lent a PS3 so my plans have changed, I might kill it for a week.

Progress for August:
The Last of Us (17h)
Heavy Rain
Spec Ops: The Line
Sleeping Dogs

Heavy Rain down. Boy this game sucked balls. I have nothing against QTE-based games (Asura or TWD) but nothing is good for me in HR. Story doesn't make sense (my god that plot twist), there lacks rhythm, voice acting is bad, dialogues are bad. Music is okay but a bit too repetitive.

I'll be on Sleeping Dogs next. I've read good things about it here on gaf.

I don't even think I beat one game last month... Anyway,
Tales of Vesperia
Gears of War Judgement
Final Fantasy VII
Fire Emblem Awakening

These long JRPGs are clogging my backlog.
Fire Emblem down! Wow, that's probably my third favorite game of the year, just behind Ni No Kuni.
Unfortunately, I decided to start Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon next. It doesn't matter if we beat the games we originally listed as long as we beat four games right?

I'm halfway done...

just 100% Super Mario 3D Land and Super Luigi U.

I'll likely complete Tales of Xillia and Fire Emblem next. ;)

I've already beaten 3 games so far. 2 of them are replays though... that counts right? I bought Kirby Dream Collection and I felt the need to beat even the ones I've already beaten before. >.>

Kirby Dreamland
Kirby Adventure
Kirby Dreamland 2

update:

Alright, let's do this:

Sword and sworcery
Max Payne
Zenonia, and
Tiny Thief

Boy'oh, did Zenobia get grindy in the last 1/3 of the game. Still plenty of fun overall.

One to go!

Well just finished one game this month, time to finally move onto some others in the backlog.

  • Sleeping Dogs (PC)
  • Ys Origins (PC)
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PC)
  • Remember Me (360)

Though technically SD was a repeat play, beat it on 360 already. Maybe I can squeeze in another "real" backlog finish.

Deadpool (PS3)
Dead Space 3 (PS3)
Metro: Last Light (PS3)
Saints Row 3 (PS3)

Good riddance Deadpool, you horrid pile of shit!

Finished 4 games:
Kirby Dreamland
Kirby Adventure
Kirby Dreamland 2
Kirby Super Star

I'm going to finish Dreamland 3 today and then play Kirby 64. Hopefully this week I get to Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland if it arrives soon enough.

I'm actually going to strive for five in August, and finish off my backlog of Wii games once and for all.

No More Heroes
Madworld
Wario Land: Shake It!!
Red Steel 2
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
One down.

No More Heroes
Madworld (in progress)
Wario Land: Shake It!!
Red Steel 2
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle

Simon the Sorcerer 2 done. It's much better than the first with more sensible puzzles and less aimless wandering about. Simon was such a massive prick, though.
I have no regrets about how the game ends...
(I don't know why I felt the need to spoil such an old game but I'm sure somebody will appreciate it.)

I haven't finished four this month yet, but this game is an important milestone as it's the 40th game I've beaten since last October when I promised myself not to buy anymore games and just beat my backlog. Hurrah!

Simon the Sorcerer 3D is next. I'm kind of cautious about this one, though - the manual makes it not look like a point n' click adventure game anymore... :|

WHAT A GAME!
I did not expect that to be that good, and the ending....

I know right? Saints Row 3 remains one of my favorite games of all time. I'm EXCITED for 4!

Also I finished Kirby Dreamland 3, that one (and Dreamland 2) are the ones I've beaten for the first time. So that's 5 games down! Working on 64 now.

Okay, let's give this a try. First the games I've already started:
The Last of Us - Just need to wrap up my last Factions run
Deadlight - About 1 hour into it
Tales from Space: About a Blob - 2/3 of the way through it

And these are the other games I'd like to start and finish:
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
Resident Evil 6
Spec Ops: The Line
Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy

I've wrapped up all the games I'd been playing and now I've started Sly and J&D.

I added J&D to my list because I had the urge to play it but I'm still aiming to finish three of those games this month (with the games I'd already started counting as just one).

I'm not sure if I can finish 4, but I'll go for:

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
Torchlight 2

The Swapper
Shin Megami Tensei IV

Just finished Torchlight 2. Great, great game. I'd guess that most people who have a PC and like RPG's have played this, but I definitely recommend it for those interested in it.

Gonna play through The Swapper over the weekend.

Ok I've just been lent a PS3 so my plans have changed, I might kill it for a week.

Progress for August:
The Last of Us (17h)
Heavy Rain
Spec Ops: The Line
Sleeping Dogs

WEI FUCKIN SHEN. Dat game was really good. Visuals, art, soundtrack, fighting, etc. Damn I really missed out. Thanks PS+.

I'm not playing Spec Ops yet, I've started Catherine. And DAYUM is that game great.

It's been a while since I've finished so many games so fast (not platinum huh). Grateful to my friend for lending me his PS3 for just a week. Put some pressure on me, don't regret a thing.

Progress:
Pikmin 3
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
Had a lot of fun with Sonic, even though I haven't played a lot of Sega games, so most of the fan service is lost on me.
Going to spend some more time with GTA4 next, I'm still trying to figure out if I actually enjoy playing it.

Got skyrim down for good, dkcr 3ds down, working on project x zone..
Hopefully i'll finish soul sacrifice as well and finally swap uc3 (last 5 chapters)..
Out of the slump finally?

so far score is

skyrim
donkey kong country
mark of the ninja
currently playing:
project x zone
uncharted 3
soul sacrifice
paper mario 3ds
fire emblem
fire emblem

I have to complete 2 more before august end!

It's only taken me 11 years but I've finally got past the first hour of Ico and completed it today. Looking past the occasionally frustrating controls its an incredible game, can't wait to get started on Shadows of the Colossus.

In progress is Sleeping Dogs, and I fancy some old school FPS action so Quake 1 and 2 are ready to go.

Will try

Uncharted 3
ZombiU
Portal 2
Trine 2

Progress:

Why is GTAIV such a drag. I think I completed half of the game. It is like a mixed bag, I start playing and enjoy it, but the extra things to do are just BORING. When I think of playing that game and Bioshock 1 I just meh, look immediately for something else.

Alright, lets do this:

1) Resonance of Fate. On chapter 12 now; near the end. I'm confident I'll complete this game by the end of the month.
2) Shin Megami Tensei IV. Just got locked into the neutral route. Should be able to finish it.
3) 999. Just completed the "Safe" ending and now going to do the "True" ending.

4) Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door. Managed to find a copy of this somehow :D. Will start soonish.
Bonus: Mario and Luigi Dream Bros. Will get the game this month.

Woo done Resonance of Fate. Really fun game. One of my favorite JRPGs this gen.

Only one more to go...

update:

Alright, let's do this:

Sword and sworcery
Max Payne
Zenonia, and
Dishonoured

Swapped Tiny Thief for Dishonoured. Arkane Studios did a really fantastic job on Dishonoured, had a lot fun with it.

See you all next month :-P

  • Deus Ex (PC)
  • AssassinsÂ’ Creed Liberation (Vita)
  • MGS: Peace Walker (Vita//PS3)
  • Borderlands 2 (PC)
  • Halo 2 PC? (PC) (maybe?)

I started Deus Ex and managed to get past the terrible first few levels (and the iffy gameplay), and I am enjoying it somewhat. I have had to use a walkthrough a few times, and hope to use it less as I go on.

Also, I have begun playing the Killzone: Mercenary Beta lately and it has been eating up my free time. It is very good.

That is about it.

Update 1: Discovered this list thingy. Its pretty cool.

Think I am going to change games. I haven't even touched my games, I need some reason to play them. The last few months have been great, but now I just cannot bring myself to play anything.

Gonna try this for the first time.

Final Fantasy IV (DS)
Mana Khemia - Alchemists of Al-Revis (PS2)
Dark Souls (PC)
Shadowrun Returns (PC)

Already a couple hours into the first 2 games.

Another World (Atari ST) - Done!
Pikmin 2 (Gamecube)
Mother (Famicom)
Ys II: Ancient Ys Vanished – The Final Chapter (TurboGrafx-CD)

Beaten Mother last night. Just one to go! But since i'm way ahead of schedule, i'll throw in Phantasy Star I for the Sega Master System in for now.

Hmmm This will be hard because I'm trying to realistically see what I can finish.

I have already beat TLOU and beat the Miami Heat for the Championship so...Hmm.....

  • Bioshock
  • Mass Effect
  • Place Holder
  • Place Holder

I'm going to check my "Ultimate Game Backlog Box of Started but Unfinished games" after work to see what else I need to add to this list.

SMT IV
Pikmin 3
Game & Wario
Tank! Tank! Tank!
Lego City: Undercover
Shantae
Dragon's Crown

Didn't expect to see the credits roll in this one, but I couldn't stop playing it after a certain point. Finished the game on Normal at LV29 with a Dwarf solo. Loved it. The post game objective and higher difficulties make it feel like the game hasn't technically ended, but I saw the credits so I'll count that as one down! Will be playing this off and of for sure over the next couple of weeks/months.

Thinking I won't hit 4 games this month. In the middle of and currently addicted to some pretty lengthy RPGs so I might not hit the thread's target goal. We'll see.

Kirby's Dream Land (replay)
Kirby Adventure (replay)
Kirby's Dream Land 2
Kirby Super Star
Kirby's Dream Land 3
Kirby 64 (replay)

Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland
Kirby Canvas Curse
Kirby Squeak Squad (replay)
Kirby Epic Yarn
Kirby Mass Attack
Metal Gear Solid 4
Borderlands 2

6 down. 7 to go. I'm halfway through Borderlands 2, and I'm on the first boss of Act 2 of MGS4. As for the Kirby games, they're pretty short usually so I think I can finish them all by the end of the month.

Pikmin 3
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Legend of Zelda
Mega Man X

I actually beat Pikmin 3 earlier in the week, but forgot to post it on here. Actually haven't played any games but NCAA Football 14 this past week since I beat it. Will probably get back onto my list here this coming week.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
Steamworld Dig
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros.
Umihara Kawase Jun

Gyakuten Saiban 2, not sure what PW game that is in English*

* Abandoned. I did two cases and just could not tolerate another seven or eight hours of it. I wish I'd played it before buying the third in a sale the other week. Replaced it with Steamworld Dig which I bought this week so doesn't do much for the backlog but it still counts, it was mostly very enjoyable.

On the downside Animal Crossing has finally clicked today which may have a significant impact on my ability to clear any of them.

Good GOD Simon the Sorcerer 3D looks like a steaming pile of shit. There are PS1 games that look much better than this. The controls are really bad, AND my copy doesn't seem to want to save my game anymore. Well and truly DROPPED. Also, I had no idea that they did Feeble Files too, which I also dropped because I didn't like it. These guys have a great track record don't they!

Kingpin shall be next, if I can get it to run properly...

Ok I've just been lent a PS3 so my plans have changed, I might kill it for a week.

Progress for August:
The Last of Us
Heavy Rain
Catherine
Sleeping Dogs

I did it! Four retail games in like a week, wow. I haven't done that in a very very long time.

I played a lot. In total it's around 50 hours (I'm on vacation with no friends around so, heh). All in all, those games were all great in their way, except for Heavy Rain which was one of the worst games I've played, ever.

TLOU was a great experience. Cage must learn how to create empathy.
Sleeping Dogs was the best GTA like ever. I'm not sure I'll be able to go back to GTA.
Catherine was a really neat experience. Spatial intelligence is not my forte so I had a few hard times in easy, but I managed. I didn't know what to do with my karma gauge so I kept it neutral and it left me with a kinda disappointing ending.
