FOX Dates a James Cameron Project (Possibly Avatar 2) for Dec. 21, 2018

I feel that if Avatar 2 goes up against Han Solo directly it will probably win. Despite being Star Wars I feel like that is going to be the hardest sell for Lucasfilm/Disney to everyone. No one particularly wants Young Han Solo, although I am sure the movie will still end up good and the talent behind it is good.

That said, I don't think FOX and Disney will actually play chicken with these two franchises. One of them will not be in December ultimately.

I knew Fox would be butthurt about losing Star Wars but goddamn.

Seeing the thread wars this generates will probably be more interesting than the actual films.

Yeah, cause Avatar never released in December before and clearly they are doing this because of the butt hurt.

Jeez, I can't believe the shit I read here sometimes.

This is obviously a Solaris rerelease to celebrate its 16th anniversary and introduce the long-awaited Blu-ray.

REVENGE OF THE NA'VI

"War! Lucasfilm is crumbling under attacks by the ruthless Fox CEO, Jim Gianopolous. There are GAFfers on both sides. Money is everywhere.

In a stunning move, the fiendish blockbuster director, James Cameron, has swept into the Hollywood capital and kidnapped the earnings of Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, leader of the 2018 roster.

As Avatar 2 attempts to flee the besieged capital with their valuable box-office, Neogaffers lead a desperate mission to validate their opinions..."

Fox should just make the release 2019 to coincide with ABADAR's 10-year anniversary!

Personally, let's see... New James Cameron blockbuster versus cynical Han Solo prequel. Gonna go with the new Cameron movie myself.

Revenge of the na'vi YESSSSSSSS Hahahahah :P

Avatar 2 will be better than the han solo movie in both critical success and financial
mark my words

If anything the han solo movie should movie,

Why is anyone even talking about Star Wars? That Han Solo thing opens like 6 months earlier than this movie*.

*Which isn't Avatar 2, but a Solaris rerelease.

Young Han Solo gonna get broken like an undergrown pa'li.

I feel like the real story here is Kingsman 2 being taken out of a plum summer slot and being placed in October. This leaves Fox with Alien Covenant, the third Apes film and some Dreamworks Animation film that they'll dump as their only big summer event films.

I'm sure Fox will say that the fall slot will suit the film's (I'm assuming) R rating but it still feels like a downgrade.

By that same reasoning moving Alien Covenant to May would suggest that the studio is confident in the film but I'll eat my hat and the coat that came with it if that film is even a 5/10 critically speaking.

*cough*

Jim Gianopolous isn't at Fox anymore.

EDIT - Wait..., this means that Fox are releasing three Marvel films in 2018? Pffft, good luck with that. So 2018 could bring us 3 Marvel/Disney films (Black Panther, Infinity Wars and Ant Man 2) , 3 DCU films (Aquman, an untitled film in October and possible Flash and/or Batman) and the animated Spider-Man (oh Sony) film.

I suppose Deadpool 2 is the March 2018 but the rest? Ehhhhh..., lost of luck with that Fox.

I'll believe it when they actually start shooting.
And Avatar vs Star Wars? Someone will move, neither Fox nor Disney want to lose money in such a dumb fight.

Edit: oh shit, Han Solo won't be released during christmas? My bad, I thought that was the plan for Star Wars moving forward. Carry on.

That's showing real confidence in Alien which I feel is smart. Prometheous did very well even with middling reviews and a very tenuous connection to Alien ,so a full blown Alien film(the first in 20 years) , primed to be the Hard R Summer counter program , could be huge

I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but I'd see Cameron's next film over SW, if given the choice. Nobody does action spectacle like Cameron.

Absolutely. Fox were so confident in the way Prometheus performed that they removed the word Prometheus from the title of its own sequel and reverted back to 'Alien'.

LMAO at anyone thinking a Han Solo movie (which I believe has already been moved anyways) is going to make a dent in Avatar 2. No. Avatar 2 is going to be a global event. Just like the first one was.

And LMAO even more at anyone thinking Star Wars "owns" December. It's almost like you forget that a) Avatar opened in December and is the highest grossing film of all-time, b) Avatar's success in that slot is why Disney put Star Wars in that slot in the first place, and c) to date, only one SW movie has hit in December.

They've clearly mutually scheduled these movies away from eachother.

December 2017 - Ep. 8
December 2018 - Avatar
December 2019 - Ep. 9
December 2020 - Avatar

No one is eating anyone's lunch here. And if Avatar (5!) is hitting in 2023, you can bet on Star Wars Episode 10 in December 2024.

I don't see avatar 2 being anything. 9 years after the first and the fact that most people remember Avatar as being a pretty mediocre film I doubt it does numbers like the first.

Also I will believe it's coming out when it actually happens. They've been talking avatar sequels for years with release dates that keep getting pushed all over the place

Just want to say that I predict that when this is finally over, Cameron will hold the records for the number 1,2,3,4, and 5 highest grossing films of all time.

Also, Avatar 2 is going to blow people's goddamn minds.

This is the first time we've heard an actual date though instead of a vague year.

It's happening. Avatar GAF, it's time to start the party again!

EDIT: Holy shit lol

I said confidence in Alien. Besides whatever else you say about Prometheous it did well at the box office despite the weak reception. Plus a studio doesn't move a movie from October right into the middle of the summer BO buzz saw without having confidence it will do well.

I legit got excited for Avatar news for the first time in like 4 years today, because this is the first release date announcement that I actually truly believe. It's finally happening. Can't wait for the trailer to hit late next year.

It has been said but I will say it again:

2018 is the year of the young Han Solo movie which is in May, not in December. So there is not a real battle there.
