Fox "in talks" for X-Files revival

I always thought it would be interesting to see an older Mulder in the same role as Deep Throat or X. That being said, I hope they don't go down the route of Mulder & Scully as the sort-of mentors for a younger pairing of agents. Also, I think they'll have a tough time replicating the tone of the originals, which was a large part of what made the show so great in the first place.

True but with all the issues today basing it in the current political situation could be incredibly interesting. If a bit difficult to traverse.

I don't think anybody's even touched on the most problematic part of an X-Files revival with Mulder and Scully, which is simply... they got fucking together at the end. Nobody wants to watch an X-Files with Mulder and Scully happily together in a relationship. Just like how The Office got so much less interesting once Jim and Pam got together.

Part of the reason the show was so successful was because you watched every week *wanting* them to get together. Finally getting to that endgoal just kills all of that.

You guys remember the virtual reality episode? (yes hes holding a samurai sword)

They could do an Oculus Rift one now.

Oh, with the thinly veiled Thresh?

Timeless.

Edit: Just noticed that rifle Scully's holding is one of the props from Space Above and Beyond lol.

Do the 8 episode Scully and Mulder mini-series. Date it with the re-release of the entire series in HD on Blu-ray. I'm in.

Well fox better pick it up before Netflix makes a better offer
Netflix picking it up would probably be the best thing that could happen. No way The X-Files has clout or steam left in it to make a comeback on network television.
I don't think it's probably possible for Netflix to grab it though?

Man I would really love a new season with David and Gillian more than anything. We can't let "I wanna believe" be the last story. Make a mini series, staring Mulder and Scully, a couple of cameos with Doggett, throw in some good MotW episodes and finally the season/series withe the END the alien invasion arc.

Speak for yourself. I'd part with my entire life savings to help finance an X-Files return.
Sorry pal but this show is going to be an uninspired money making tool

X-files is a hell of a name so most of the work is already done so all they need now is a fox-tier production and they're set

If they really wanted to make something good they would have ditched the x-files name altogether and work on something new. They don't because they know the value of the name.

Is that why The After tanked? Or is Chris not going to be involved? Probably should have just pitched The After to someone else other than Amazon. I liked the pilot.

Would love for this to happen, even at the risk of it being crap - the Doggett Reyes seasons were already crap.

A prequel series set during the original X Files would also be awesome.

Guys, FOX already confirmed hours ago the miniseries being discussed will be done with both David and Gillian if it happens.

“What I can say is that if this happens, it’ll be with David [Duchovny (Mulder)] and Gillian [Anderson (Scully)] reprising their roles,” Newman said. “[X-FILES creator] Chris [Carter] is interest, both David and Gillian are interested. Scheduling is very difficult. David has his show, Gillian is doing something in the UK. I really don’t know how fast it can happen, but there are ongoing conversation happening.” - See more at: http://www.givememyremote.com/remote....qlaw0nmz.dpuf

I was listening to a podcast the other day with Gillian Anderson and the talk was a mini-series with her and DD. Great podcast, definitely worth a listen - http://www.nerdist.com/pepisode/nerdist-podcast-gillian-anderson/

Cool. I'd watch a mini-series w/ Gillian Anderson & David Duchovny.

Good point.

I also never liked William. The whole "miracle child" thing seemed pointless and cliché.

I wouldn't mind seeing a short run of episodes all built around one solid conspiracy/mythlogy. Could be interesting, True Detective style

I think so too. X Files was in a time when this was fucking awesome.

And the TLC special was 'Finding the Chupacabra'

Paranormal and spooky stuff was such a thing back then. Maybe it was because we didn't have as much access to information as we do now...

So, they can still solve mysteries. It's not a fucking soap opera.

Without the incredibly charming and funny Duchovny, and the stoic, non-threatening but still beautiful Anderson, it won't be as good. Those actors/characters carried so many episodes that would be considered mediocre with anyone else. They honestly made the material better than it was on paper.

This is honestly the truth. There are some episodes of The X-Files that, without these two, are just plain shit.

My mom commented on the same thing when Patrick came onboard to replace Duchovoskyi.

But Season 10 has been great so far. But then again, it's because it has Mulder and Scully and tries to emulate the show.

Fringe proved that there is still a dedicated audience for this... and there hasn't really been anything to fill that niche since fringe... I think this makes sense...even if its a one off season like 24s recent season.

I think in the post Snowden leaks environment, the concept of a show about a distrust of the government and a government conspiracy would work very well.

Frankly, I'd rather they just rejuvenated everything rather than going back to Mulder and Scully, whose story was told in every essential capacity, and Chris Carter, whose work since has been pretty damn dreadful by most accounts. Find a new pair of agents, a new showrunner (park a truckload of money at Vince Gilligan's front door?) and stay true to the spirit of the piece rather than just going over ground which, let's be honest, no longer has much if anything to offer. As someone said earlier in the threat, it'd be cool to have Duchovny back in a Deep Throat/Mr. X capacity or Scully popping up in cameos or something, but trying to recapture the old magic just feels like a losing battle from the start to me - and I feckin' loved this show growing up.

With the stuff Hannibal gets away with I can only imagine how awesome a new X-Files could be.

Netflix should make a show about those
redacted
S.C.P. stories
