Fox "in talks" for X-Files revival

The show used poor film quality (excessive grain) on purpose because it added to the atmosphere of the show. Even after they got a budget increase they used the same type of film they started with. HD seems like it would be a waste on this show.

Are you freaking kidding? The difference is night and day.

Bring on the fucking Blu-rays!

You misunderstand. The best scenes in XFiles arent filmed in brightly lit daytime scenes. Its usually dark and filmed in a way that says less is more. The grain is an intentional choice. I think having everything in perfect detail is going to show too much and remove some of the ambiance.

I disagree. I've been watching a lot of the HD rips from Germany, and they are solid.

Redone effects are decent, and it still holds up.

I got into the X-Files a couple years ago, ended up buying every season off of eBay and they are proudly displayed in my collection. Bring me a reboot!

Original is better. The slight grain and bluriness adds a sort of dreamy, hypnotic touch which goes well with the slow-paced and at times surreal atmosphere of the show. HD looks too "harsh".

I honestly don't know how you can look at a shot like this and say that.
There is blurry, then there is 'I can't tell what the hell I am looking at'.

Sorry but I actually hate that HD screen because of how they squeezed the image of that guy. Personally that's the type of stuff that annoys me more than the lesser definition of the original version.

I presume their intention was to correct the shot to line up with the angle of the glass.
It looks correct to me but I dont know angles.

In the original the guys arm seems to go past the edge of the glass as well. Looks wonky. But they were dealing with limited budget and early CG etc.

still no blu ray release, right?

Right, but honestly I don't know if I would even want an HD version. The special effects would probably look out of place unless they redo them, which I doubt they would.

don't even care about hd, just want less discs to change ;)

They did attempt to compensate for the angle but it just looks fucked up. George Lucas territory there.

Well it's like being half-asleep or in a drowsy state. I don't know, I liked that feeling, especially since the show was broadcast very late at night in the country where I watched it. You still know what's happening thanks to the context or you learn it at the same time as Mulder and Scully.

Bit of a bummer but let's not forget that this could very well be posturing from either sides. Remember the Futurama negociations... or the ones for Sam Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury.
