But simply have a character based off or derived from the anime version, cast into the mould of Johnny Depp.

I'm seriously trying to forget that this is even happening. It simply stresses me out too much to worry about how badly they are going to screw it up. I know how much of a super nerd that makes me, but dammit I love Cowboy Bebop :(

This. I can take Keeanu as Spike (not really) if they actually get Yoko to compose for the movie. Either that or just use tracks from the show itself.

I'm usually a pretty optimistic dude... but I've just got a baaaaad feeling about this one. I'm not against the idea of Cowboy Bebop being made into a movie--it could be an AMAZING movie if done correctly--I just feel like, for it to even remotely satisfy me and live up to the original series, everything would have to be handled with great care and by truly competent people who completely 100% get the material... and it already doesn't seem like that is happening.

Keanu, a guy who I don't necessarily dislike but definitely do not find to be a competent actor, is cast as the lead before there is even a script or a director, and mostly (entirely?) because he and the producer are buddies. And then you have the fact that Fox is handling it. They're off to a bad start, IMO.

I'd love to be proven wrong, and I will approach new information with an open mind. But as I said, I've got a baaaad feeling.
 
I doubt Ed would even be in their version of Bebop. It will probably be Spike, Jet, and Faye with a story vs the Chinese mob.

The PlayStation game didn't have a composed score by Yoko Kanno, and it sucked.
 
I don't know how to feel. Cowboy Bebop is my favorite series of all time, but for the time being I'll remain somewhat optimistic. I hope they include Vicious.

I would love to see CB become a live action film... but fuck fox.

Let's see how Sony handles AKira and how Legendary Pictures handles Warcraft.


AND FUCK Keanu Reeves. I like some of his movies, but I don't want big names on the movie.
 
You guys keep on laughing and crying like little girls, but I bet this will be one exception of an anime adaptation and Fox film that turns out GOOD. If this film, or at the very least, Keanu's performance isn't good, then I'll take a 3 month ban. I'm not even kidding. Keanu is the fucking man, and he will deliver the goods as Spike.

The Johnny Depp comment was just DrForester's opinion on who should be cast in the film as Ed.

Will Smith will be Jet, his kid will be Ed, Jada will be Faye, and Ein will now have a speaking role voiced by Eddie Murphy. Vicious will be played by Adam Sandler and Julia by Seth Rogen. Cameo by Jim Carrey as the three old dudes.
 
First, it was superhero movies. Then the new thing was fantasy adaptations. Then came a flood of video game inspired movies. Now, it's anime. I guess it could go well.

Dammit I am on episode 12 of Firefly and I am REALLY pissed at FOX for cancelling the series. The show really takes off after episode 4 or so.
 
I'm going to jump on the opposite end here and say that I think it'll turn out pretty good. Will it be as good as the show? Probably not, but I think it'll definitely do it justice. Hell if we're lucky it'll jump start another animated movie/series with all the OG folks involved.

My girlfriend just told me to picture Keanu saying *bang* in his stupid surfer voice... I think it's going to be very lonely over here on this side of the fence.

Okay, now that that's out of the way, I nominate Cameron Díaz as Faye just so this has a chance to beat Dragon Ball: Evolution as the best comedy ever.

because movie studios are in the business of charity for anime geeks? there's practically zero chance for any major (or even somewhat big) motion picture having a no name cast.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Harry Potter was full of unknown non A-list actors. Something more popular and better selling around the world than Cowboy Bebop.

Eh. As long as they pull a Silent Hill the movie and just use various Yoko Kanno and the seatbelts tracks from the show, im good. And dont leave em till the damn credits like what happened with Speed Racer.

Whoops, guess I was late on that :lol

Anyway, Tank needs to be in the opening credits, even if the opening is nothing like the show (which I dont expect it to be).

Also Spike Vs Asimov better have Rush as the fight theme.

I will say this much about Keanu...his voice does sorta remind me of Spike's english voice (like the english VA the most, felt they fit the characters better than anyone). Rosario Dawson seems like she would work for Asimov's girlfriend.
