Franchises that have gone to shit this gen?

F-Zero seems to have failed to exist, even in handheld form, which is pretty damn shitty. Maybe there's still hope, though...

I don't think there are many, if any franchises that have truly "gone to shit" this generation. But Halo is probably the most disappointing thus far. Halo 3 was extremely disappointing, especially with all the promises and hype behind it. In fact, Bungie's last two efforts were overshadowed by the vastly superior Halo Wars. Such a shame it couldn't be expanded on the PC. I'd double dip in a heartbeat.

Metroid
Mario
Zelda
Metal Gear Solid
Smash Bros
Call of Duty
Devil May Cry
The Orange Box
Ninja Gaiden
Eternal Sonata
Resident Evil
Strangehold
Dead or Alive
Assassassin's Creed
Burnout
Gears of War
World of Warcraft
*turns head around
Tekken
Little big Planet
Street Fighter
Soul Calibur
Pokemon
StarCraft
The Matrix Online
Back to the Future
Lord of the Rings
Azumanga Daioh
Queen's Greatest Hits

Probably Resident Evil and Devil May Cry.

Not so much a completely gone to shit situation, but moreso, where the hell do you go next?

Both series need a(nother) reboot

For me personally, I cant think of a single frachise that has just absolutely tanked this gen. Sure series like Tomb Raider and Tony Hawk have sucked, but they started their downward spiral last gen.
I'd say Tomb Raider's gotten a lot better this gen, it's just that there's been too much of it. Legend, Underworld, and Anniversary are a fuck of a lot better than Chronicles and Angel of Darkness.

Splinter Cell got pretty crap with Double Agent, but Conviction looks like it'll be a return to form.

When I boot T5DR after playing Tekken 6, it's like going to the future.

Really? How is that?
The only weak point being SCM.
The Scenerio Campaign mode is a fun little diversion although it gets tedious & boring it has it's charms....

I proclaim T6 to be, by far the best Tekken game ever made!
T5 has all the same animations, T6 added a few new knockdown animations, more fluid juggles, destructable environments, Smoother fighting tighter controls, larger more detailed character models....
Rage Mode can turn a match-up on its head with unpredicability, nothing sweeter in a fighting game then a good miraculous comeback....

While T6 didn't change much, it did refine the engine to a razor's edge....

It is the most played game between me & my old lady, also guests love it....
T6 strikes a perfect balance of accessability & depth....

Anyfighting game fan should run out & get it, just be sure to install, or you'll regret the load times....
SCIV is very shallow T6 is deep,
Hands down the best 3-D fighter of this generation of consoles, sorry VF5.....

Me :-D

First Killzone was a true FPS masterpiece. I also love KZ2 and I find it one of the best FPS games ever, but the first game was so goddamn masterpiece in my book.

Heh, I agree that KZ1 was awesome, and better than KZ2 in some ways. But overall I prefer KZ2. I just really miss Luger and her stealthiness.

Days like these... said:
1. Resident Evil
2. Sonic

Which others gaf?

I forgot about Sonic Heroes so I guess technically, Ah who am I kidding Sonic went to shit after the Genesis.

Sonic Adventure 1 says you're wrong...

anyone saying killzone is either A) insane or B) trolling. Killzone 1 was filled with bugs/crappy AI/low framerate. None of these exist in kz2. Plus a better singleplayer and multiplayer...

It would be easier to list the ones that aren't shit now. Except for Forza, most of the sequels to last gen games that I've played aren't better.

So you're saying that all the games last gen were borderline shit?

RE 5 was great. Not RE4 awesome but a great game.
DMC4 was also great, while not DMC3 great.
Oblivion was awesome, though Morrowind was a much better game.

I can't think of anything, actually. You might say those titles didn't improve on their last gen prequels, but they certainly didn't go to shit.

Devs that went to shit, however...there's a few: Konami, Tecmo (Team Ninja especially) Namco..

Sonic always sucked.
DMC3 was the best of the series, and fuck you Sonic used to be awesome.

Tekken died with the PlayStation.

Banjo-Kazooie really went to shit, I can't believe Nuts and Bolts even existed.

Love this thread, it addresses an issue I've felt since the beginning of the gen.

Resident Evil
Tekken
May Cry
GTA
Ace Combat
Katamari

It's not that the new installments for these games were totally shit, but they didn't show me enough progression from one generation to the next.
I was particularly disappointed with Tekken 6. It broke my heart.

Banjo nuts and bolts wasn't too bad, just obviously not what anyone expected.

But, speaking of Rare, Perfect Dark fits perfectly.

Syphon Filter!! Actually that went to shit last gen. Or maybe it was shit to begin with and I had low standards back in the PS1 era! :D

Syphon Filter! :lol If I remember clearly -- shameless Metal Gear clone... Shouldn't be too hard to improve on a game that features very little originality. If it got worse, well...

Not really. 1 and 2 on psone were very good stealth-shooters, kinda like an ante litteram splinter cell, in fact, but more action oriented, and, well, much more fun than either to me, despite being quite low budget, technically average games with a horrendous design and characters you wouldn't care of.

Warhawk did go to shit. I really wanted something like the original this gen.

Speaking of Single Trac games, Twisted Metal went to shit as soon as Single Trac left the franchise (and developed the pretty great Rogue Trip, TM's spiritual successor), but that was last gen.

Burnout.

Point of Impact was perfect, didn't like Revenge so much, but Paradise really fucked it up.
If by fucking it up you mean they made the best entry in a stale franchise, I agree.

Revenge sucked. Burnout 3 was the pinnacle of the standard Burnout formula. And for awhile, Paradise was one of the most supported online games this gen.

Tony Hawk
SSX
MLB 2K
Bionic Commando
Sonic
Quake
Virtua Tennis
Amped
Top Spin
Project Gotham Racing (not for quality but the original developer bailed and left the franchise in limbo)
Def Jam (Fighters)
Burnout (i hated paradise)

Yeah... that's how i felt about namco's efforts with tekken, katamari damacy, ridge racer, and ace combat.

soul calibur provided enough change to make it feel like a proper sequel but the others.

didnt bring much to the table and left me not wanting to pay for the next title.

Imo this generation has been ruled by new western IPs.
All the rest was pretty much a disappointment (with a few exceptions) and most of the premium japanese brands have really gone to shit.

I think this gen is ruled by fucktard bitter gamers who have forgotten the fun associated with playing games.

Seriously GTA? MGS? Burnout???

Hand over your gamer cards and start playing fucking Monopoly. I can't even look at you right now.

Just....go.

Ghost Recon has been assassinated by Ubi/RSE and they're skullfucking the franchise's frigid corpse.

If you've been a follower of the series since the beginning, how could Call of Duty not top this list?

The first Call of Duty sucked, it was essentially an MOH ripoff (yes I know most of the MOH team made it, they plagarized themselves) It just was not a very good game. COD 2 is very good, but it was released on the 360 (and PC) so thats this generation. The Big Read one is decent, easily Treyarchs best entry, but MW is easily better than any of their entries.
