Franchises that need retiring or rebooting

Some of these choices are odd considering the OP is talking about stories. The only people who care about the plot in Devil May Cry are those weirdo Vergil fanboys.

Wing commander needs a damn reboot, with as many of the actors from the original games as possible. Have the rights to the games changed games since the last one?

To whoever mentioned the x-wing vs tie fighter series getting revived, hell to the no. I loved the games, dont get me wrong, but i cant trust lucasarts to do shit right these days. Knowing them, they'll make it take place in the timeline of the prequels. Fuck that.

No. Just no.

Naughty Dog or do not want. At all.

I dont know, man.

I think the late Crash games mostly failed because they tried to bring something new to the mix, like Twinsanity etc.

A new Crash by Naughty Dog would be fuckin awesome, but i just dont see it happening :(

As much as I liked Pokemon till the 2nd generation. I'd say Pokemon kinda needs to be... Retired? I dunno but a number of them kinda resemble aliens or something indistinguishable as compared to the first two generations. :/

I know I'm going to get flamed but that's just my opinion!

imo, the pokes are better in the newer games since the first gens had a lot of generic and very boring pokes.

nostalgia goggles!!

I knew it. :lol

But hey, I like Pokemon! Not just the new ones.

At least I didn't say anything controversial like... RETIRING MARIO!!!111

Metroid is still fine. we only need a game after Fusion that ends the whole thing and a Metroid 2 remake (just so i can experience that chapter in playable and visually pleasing form like ZM) and they can retire it after that with no problems (i no longer trust them to make an real open game like before since 2/3 of the series are ultra linear games by now)

Silent Hill needs to retire if it's not going to be interesting or scary anymore. Shattered Memories had an interesting story, but the rest was so dull. I'm tired of hoping the next one will be really good just to end up being disappointed.

No you speak the truth. I dont like these new pokemon at all, it's almost like the designers are going for an abstract look. I really lost interest after gold and silver.

I love Resident Evil and was pretty angry when I heard about the reboot that's supposed to be coming, but now I'm sorta torn. It's so caught up in character connections and franchise lore that it isn't very scary anymore. Maybe it really does need a reboot.

I know I'll get shit for this, but RE4 was a step in the right direction. It ignored everything that happened before (more or less) and just went for a striking setting with scary
YMMV
enemies and situation. (The more action-oriented route may or may not have been a good idea depending on who you ask.) And REmake is one of the best games in the series because it's just a spooky mansion with scary shit happening in it. Sure, they explain what's happening later, but the experience isn't bogged down with too much of that.

Don't even get me started on Silent Hill...

Playable form? The fuck?

Metroid II still plays great.

I don't know if I would say great. The lack of an in-game map and the size of Samus on screen do hurt it's playability in this day and age. It's still playable, but it does need a remake badly.

Why would anybody disagree with you?

Because there are many people who just hate RE4 on principle. It's hard for me to believe anyone thought the series still felt fresh after playing any section of RE0, but they are out there.

Can somebody make the right Samus an avatar?

Loonies don't count. The problem is 5 :/

RE4 was such a perfect decision. Capgod can drop the ball, but really, it was the perfect time to take the series in a new direction and they just fuckin nailed it. Like i said, too bad RE5 brought the story back.

I haven't played Other M yet, but I would be okay with a Metroid reboot.

The story was the least of Resident Evil 5's problems.

I don't understand people mentioning Final Fantasy. It's not a big story, and the last few games have all been fairly different.

Im actually glad Final Fantasy keeps the numering system (wich might be why people are mentioning them ?) instead of shitty subtitles/confusing names.

I don't think FF needs to be retired. They just need to cut down the number of spin-offs and not-so-related games having the "Final Fantasy" name.

Madness it was the best in the series. I hear all this bitching and moaning about co-op, shooting the shit, Sheva etc. RE4 was a great start, RE5 improved things in every way.

Proof that opinions can be wrong.

If we had it the way RE fans wanted it, we would have a game with tank controls, limited ammo, fatal one error game enders etc. My idea of fun is not fighting Nemesis with a handgun because I used my submachine gun on a zombie that took eight hundred rounds to kill.

I love RE4. It's a masterpiece.

RE5, on the other hand, is not.

God NO!!!!! The FMV games (along with that whole fad) sucked. I want to play as my created character not some has beens & ex-porn stars acting horribly against shoddy green screen.

EA holds the rights to everything Origin including Origin itself if it still existed.

edit: sorry, should clarify. Yes to the reboot of WC. No to live action.

...g in for Mother Brain, malignant parasites creating dopplegangers, conspiracies, Adam, the Deleter, Baby, baby, baby etc[/spoiler].... Talk about bending and testing my suspension of disbelief! I think I'd far prefer a complete reset on Metroid Canon at this point, rather than them going to extreme lengths to try and explain why the Galaxy ith no longer at peath for the fifth time!

Why did you get a momentary lisp there?

Reboot:

Metal Gear Solid - Hopefully Rising IS the reboot

Retire/Fuck it off:

Metal Gear Solid - Like jett said, it's FUBAR now. If Rising doesn't fix it, then it belongs here
Bond - seriously
Devil May Cry - I think it's done it's run now
Sonic - Even though Colours and 4 look good. Put him down after that.

Just release a new one already:

Maximo
Perfect Dark
Duke :D

Leave it, it's going fine as is:

Halo
Resident Evil
Ratchet and Clank
Zelda
Mario - main series, not the spin offs
Uncharted
God of War

I agree as well as I think it would be the stronger business decision as FMV would be a risk and expensive. The FMV used in the newest Red Alert was pretty minimalist and wasn't as big of a scope as the Wing Commander games so FMV would add nothing of real value. God I want this reboot to happen someday. They can easily go back to the Kilrathi War and make it incredibly epic with mankind on the verge of extinction. This is something that games I don't think do a good job of portraying usually, a sense of dread. Wing Commander was always great in that especially when you failed a mission or two and had to abandon systems.
