Several new actors have joined the cast of The Walking Dead over the past few days. In addition to the recently announced Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes, actors Linds Edwards and Jim Coleman have also reportedly signed on for roles in the currently shooting AMC adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s survival horror comic book series.

Both Edwards and Coleman are said to be playing new characters Leon Basset and Lambert “Lam” Kendal, respectively. The news was confirmed by Edwards himself in an interview with The Walking Dead Podcast, but the interview has since been pulled at the request of AMC.

Also recently announced was the casting of Emma Bell in the recurring role of a college student who seeks refuge with Rick Grimes and other survivors. Perhaps she’ll play Amy, the young sister to sharpshooter Andrea. In the comics, Andrea began as a mid-20s legal clerk, but the adaptation is adding a few years to the character with the casting of Laurie Holden in the role.

These are HIGHLY spoilery, but so so GOOD.

All these little chats with the crew (especially Andrew Lincoln in Pt 1) are great.

Because instead of two young girls, you can have another woman to play with, instead of just Lori. So, Andrea being a bit older but still as tough is a good thing, in my book.

I just like it.

So im not up to date on the news for this. Is Darabont directing every episode of the series? Or just the pilot?

Just the Pilot so far. He's an EP though, don't know who's the showrunner atm.

I'm thinking he's running it right now, and he'll pass it off to someone else for S2.

Are they doing 12 episode seasons? I imagine Darabont will be creating the 2-hour opener and then pass off directing to others like JJ did for Lost. That seems to be the popular trend. Darabont will be credited with developing and creating it or something.

S1 is just 6 episodes, while I'm assuming S2 and on will be 12/13.

Gees, why is it only 6? Are they not confident in the series?

It's the opposite, I think.

They wanted to get it out quickly for October, right after Mad Men.

AMC fully own this show, it's the first show they own. So yeah, they're confident, and there's no way this doesn't get more seasons.

(Unless only 4 people watch it)

And maybe also im thinking they kept it to 6 episodes because they want Frank to direct the whole thing to set the quality bar. At least thats what i would hope. Darabont killed it with the Mist so the guy can do disturbing horror.

He's not directing episode 2, at least. But he did mention he'd direct more episodes, IIRC. I'd probably bet on some/most of the premieres and finales.

Yeah, I'd say Frank had a hand in the 6 episode deal, that way he can be extremely involved in the first season (get it off the ground, put the crew/cast together, etc), and the take more of a backseat in the following ones. I can't imagine Darabont will be as involved in S2.

He has to write for Indy 5, after all :p.

Well the first season of Breaking Bad was only 7 episodes, but I'm not sure if that had more to do with the writers' strike.

It did. That's not how Breaking Bad was planned.

New art for Comic-Con:

I hope we see some footage there...

I hope that footage somehow gets leaked to the internet (it will) and I will be able to see it. Oh man, I really hope this show is good.

What number of comics will each chapter cover ? Or it's a free structure ?

It's more free. New character and everything.

It won't be a super strict adaptation, more following the roadblocks.

In an interview posted earlier, Darabont talked about reaching
The Prison
around the end of S2, for example.

Wow, they're really patient. That was the 3rd book right?

Yes....I think.

If we say that each trade is roughly 6 episodes (which we can sort of gather from what they're doing with the six episode S1) that works out more or less.

Wow. That cast picture is crazy. The only choice I'm not too happy about is Lori. I didn't think she was a very good actress on Prison Break, but we'll see.

The kid playing Carl maybe looks a little too old as well, and considering how fast he's going to age between seasons it might be an issue down the road.

I still can't believe this is getting made.
Something about this and that new song of ice and fire television series screams "TOO GOOD FOR TELEVISION".:lol

Carl seems just the right age too. Just a bit older than the comic I think.

I shall await the emergence of the current Super Badass Carl.
