Refreshing to see something at least somewhat original being given a decent budget and what looks good execution.

Edit: noticed something weird. The writer for this barely has any work on his imdb prior to this year and all of a sudden he's getting like 5 big movie projects. Wtf? How's he blowing up like this?

Looks like a more realistic version of the game world in Ready Player One, where 99.9% of the players are just arseholes doing the exact same things as each other in different silly outfits.

Also really good! Will definitely give it a watch.

Yeah, saw this yesterday. Looks like it will be a blast. Perfect song and cool way to utilize it as well.

Looks meh, I didn't even chuckle once.

Maybe he's got connections.

Looks like a fun streaming movie.

Most importantly though.

Jodie Comer.

I'm so confused. Is he in a video game? What does the title "Free Guy" even mean? I don't get any of it.

EDIT: I need to watch whole trailers before commenting in future.

He's an NPC called 'Guy" that becomes self aware and starts freely making his own choices inside the game he's a part of.

No offence dude, but it was pretty straightforward to work out from the trailer really. You'd have thought it would be obvious to you from the fact we're on a gaming forum and you must know how games work and what NPC's are if nothing else.

This is why Hollywood execs want everything dumbed down and have every plot point explained in narrative ruining over simplicity isn't it?

Ah, okay. Thanks.

I found it confusing because I stopped it right before the woman said "This is a videogame" lol. I thought he just lived in a shitty city or something :messenger_grinning_smiling: . I've watched the whole thing now and get it.

Should have been CGI to make it more "gamey". But I guess that would have upped the budget by quite a lot (Ready Player One).

thought this was cool and looked interesting. then they go and make a virgin joke at the very end. i am so sick of hearing about incels and how playing videogames make you a virgin, that shit has been old for decades now, and seeing big successful movie stars make it just feel condescending. i was all in until that part but ugh big turnoff.

honestly kind of stunned Ryan Reynolds managed to have himself a career. but then again Hollywood loves mediocre crap so it's not that impressive.

Reynolds apparently plays Deadpool in every movie now.
Imho nothing to be exciting about. Will probably watch though as my friends love movies like that.

Looks good from the trailer but is the premise enough to make a full movie. Also Jumanji 2 is coming out in a few weeks and this kinda has a similar premise with the whole being in a game world/self aware about it.

Reynolds becomes self aware about the game world, does stuff he shouldn't ever do as an NPC, meets hot chick who tells him about some virus/program and they team up to save video games. Action, romance, hits a low point chick leaves him, they reconcile and he saves the world. Throw in a bunch of CGI and Reynolds jokes and thats your movie.

Fucking Ryan Reynolds, Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place is over TWENTY YEARS OLD. WTF

I mean Nathan Fillion was on the show but at least he kinda looks his age now.

Ummm the virgin joke had nothing to do about videogames, it was a play on about how women like bad boys............

Michael Bays Six Underground this month on netflix etc. say otherwise. ;)

Netflix is desperate for content as they know the big boys are starting their own streaming services.
I think Irishman and Six Underground both had 150+ million budgets. I can't even comprehend how they work out if they'll break even or make a profit in a situation like this. And just as I was annoyed that Irishman won't be at the cinemas, I'm annoyed that Six Underground won't be at the cinemas either. I really don't want my big action films relegated to the small screen.

I care less and less about the movie going experience, if I had the chance of watching new movies same day at home for the same price I would do it in a heartbeat. xD

It kinda reminds me of the lego movie.

Naive kinda funny fish out of water guy, bad ass chick. Mish Mash of all types of Video game tropes with probably a lot of wink wink to the audience.

Wouldn't surprise me if they use the same framing device as the Lego movie as well.

This Ryan Reynolds guy seems like a genuine good person (or at least tries to be).

He doesn't pretend the world is perfect, but tries to get people in good moods.

And he doesn't virtue signal talk, unless he's backing it up with the walk.

At least that's the impression I get.

He genuinely does seem likeable. It's why I don't trust him.

Only seen him in Deadpool though and those were great.

Nah, he signals. Remember all the totally unasked for apologies for his "planatation wedding"? Who cares? So long as the theme isn't literally a 1830's plantation complete with house slaves it's just a nice house and manicured lawn at this point.

I remember seeing him on “Two Guys, A Girl, And a Pizza Place” which tbh sounds like the title of a porno. He's just a guy, almost a man out of time. Never thought much of him until Deadpool. Guess he finally met the right project.

It is all marketing. He may be a cool guy, but it is all image management marketing. Image is important for celebrity.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
So he's a cross between Neo and the guy from 300 in that movie that no one gave a fuck about?

The first trailer was enough for me. I get the concept and that's all I need. Looks fun and can't wait to see it.

lmao, this still isn't out?

I've liked Reynolds since Waiting, but he really is the same person in every role. Almost everyone I know hates that movie, but as a restaurant lifer it absolutely nailed my early 20's in the biz.
