Frictional Games' SOMA is pretty much done.

If all goes according to plan the beta for SOMA, our upcoming sci-fi horror game, will be done in 4 weeks. It feels both exciting and scary that the game is really nearly completed now. After several years of hard work, release is finally a clearly visible milestone.
Note that we already have all the testers we need, so no need to make requests wink emoticon Game is still incomplete so just hang in there a little longer, and you'll get the polished and proper version to immerse yourself in!

Edit: Releasing on PC first? Thought they hinted heavily at it releasing first on PS4

Might have been in the context of "it'll go to Xbox eventually." But I don't think they've ever said it would hit PS4 first.
 
So close. I'm hype. I was wondering if it will still be special after what Alien Isolation delivered.

But then I remembered how much Amnesia induced panic in me, so it'll probably be great.

This is set at the bottom of the sea, isn't it? Funnily enough I find both the deep ocean and deep space similarly isolated and terrifying.
 
Great news - Penumbra series and Amnesia are among my favorite games of the past 10 years.

Everything about SOMA looks fantastic.

I believe so, and I agree on that. Space would've been neat too, but I was pretty pumped when the trailer revealed the sea.

Really hoping there's some plot here- the teaser vids on the technology they found were really eerie and engaging.
 
I managed to complete my goal of beating all of my scary games before this came out. Now I have no excuse not to buy it. Joy...
 
I need to finish Amnesia still. My friend bought it for me a while ago, but my computer ended up breaking down as soon as I started getting into it. I forgot I had it lol.

I'm really looking forward to both this and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. This for the creepy chills and mental scarring I'll receive, and Rapture for the pretty visuals and nice walk around a 1980s English countryside village.
 
While we wait, I highly recommend the Penumbra series (two games plus a short epilogue chapter) to any fans of Amnesia who have not played the former.
 
Just to put it out there. From what I remember Frictional were big fans of the direction that TheChineseRoom took with A Machine for Pigs, in terms of focusing on storytelling more, and wanted to head in that same direction with SOMA.

Something to temper your expectations for those who want Frictional to deliver another Dark Descent.

Yeah.

THAT'S why you didn't finish it bruh. Me too! I swear! It wasn't because the game was shit-your-fucking-pants-terrifying. No. That had nothing to do with it.

I actually liked A Machine For Pigs more, so this is awesome.

I actually know a lot of people who liked Machine for Pigs more because it wasn't so scary as the Dark Descent which they couldn't play through.

Hopefully they'd strike a good balance between the story, the scares and the gameplay.
