His point is that the last few episodes were excellent and somewhat redeeming of the rest of the season, and I do agree with that.
Oh, okay, because I really don't agree with that at all. They haven't been "dumping bodies off bridges" terrible, but the plot is still bad. The music, camera work, and acting (outside of Lyla) continues to be great, but I can't stand the plot anymore.
Mrs. Coach's old boyfriend appearing was like a cold open that lasted an entire episode. It had no signifigance whatsoever, it's just something to fill up space, it seemed.
Now that Riggins is done with his friend, Mr. Drug Dealer, his character seemingly has nowhere to go, and does the same thing every time we see him, it seems: chase after Lyla.
The one character on the show I've hated for the entire series, Lyla, continues to get crazy amounts of screentime, even though nothing she does is related to the rest of the show at all, except being chased by Tim. She has two facial expressions. Her mega-Christian boyfriend looks like he has down syndrome. And I don't give a fuck.
Matt, who was probably the best character last season, has been a very minor character all season. He's just sort of there, it seems, in most episodes. They cleaned up his Julie relationship, he went out with a creepy-faced chick, and got involved with a nurse who then drops off the face of the earth with almost no warning. Then, the writers tried to make him unlikeable by making him act completely out-of-character for an episode. Great.
Julie was a cool character last season, someone who seemed above most of the nonsense that went on in Dillon, and who more or less had a good head and had a lot more than an ounce of common sense. All season they've made her unlikeable, to the point where I changed the channel everytime her brat face appeared on the TV. In the past few episodes, she's had almost no role.
And let's not even discuss the convenient racism plot with Smash, or the idiotic treadmill that is the Landry-Tyra relationship.
I keep watching the show because I still love watching Mr. and Mrs. Coach, Smash is a good character, and Mother Smash is so wonderful I want to reach through the TV and give her a hug.
Even now, it's a better show than most of the shit on TV, but I really don't like where they're taking this show, and I hope NBC pulls the plug before my memories of FNL being great become a distant memory.
