FRIDAY NIGHT [OT2] - Official NeoGAF Weekend Kickoff REDUX

I'm trying out goat cheese in my scrambled eggs this morning and damn, it is so good.

The taste and texture adds a whole new dimension to something that's normally plain.

It's probably the best "J"RPG I've ever played. It does everything right, and (unlike most RPGs) it truly respects your time. There isn't a single moment of bullshit side quests or grinding. Zero filler.

I famously hate almost all JRPGs, and this game is easily my GOTY so far. Gigantic recommendation from me.
Someone described it as having soulslike elements and I instantly turned my nose up and cancelled my order. Any game remotely roguelike or soulslike is an instant no for me.

I can't think of a single element that could be considered "soulslike" aside from I guess there are kind of "bonfire-like" checkpoints that refill your health and items, and respawn easily-avoidable enemies. And it's definitely not a roguelike either.

Sorry I wasn't saying it's roguelike 🙂. Just pointing out that roguelike and soulslike games don't interest me. It was a reddit post that said there were soulslike elements.

Either way, you should definitely give it a try! I went into it 100% thinking I would hate it, so I like to think I'm one of the harshest critics for the game. But even I have to admit it's absolutely incredible. And the soundtrack is god-tier, especially later in the game.

I've watched shit loads of reviews and it does look impressive, but it doesn't grab me unfortunately. I'm incredibly hard to cater for when it comes to games.

Pork butt was tasty everyone had a good time and good food.
Hell yeah.

You had a better time than me. I bought ribs today, only to find out my grill cover must have a leak in it, cause my grill completely rusted over during the off-season. Now I gotta soak the grate in vinegar and clean the whole thing. 😩

I have a Komodo Joe and it has been great.

I would also recommend a black stone I have a gas line outside and that is great for doing all sorts of meals when I don't want to fire up charcoal.

I'd like to get a new grill, but it's gonna have to wait a bit. Right now I have a Char-Griller "big green egg" knock-off, and it worked great for two years. But it was incredibly cheap, and you ultimately get what you pay for. The insides are starting to peel, and I can tell the whole thing is made kind of cheaply.

That being said, it works just as good as the Egg, and is even easier since it has a thermometer and intake fan. I've made some of the best smoked meats of my life on it, I just don't think it was built to last.

Hoping to get another summer or two out of it before I have to buy a new one.

For smoking meats the porcelain grills like the egg or Kamado are hard to beat. I have friends that use electric smokers but that seems like cheating. Figuring out you venting can take some work but overall it is worth it for the charcoal and smoke.

Steak over charcoal is hard to beat.

I've been playing this game through emulation called Shadow Hearts (PS2)

I'm only 2 hours in and I'm enjoying the horror vibes this JRPG has
One of my favorite PS2 games, hope you enjoy it. Can confirm that it runs fantastically on Steam Deck, also be sure to enable widescreen mode so that it fills the screen. The sequel was also amazing, but it kind of ditched the horror aesthetic for a more anime-tropey story.

I'm three hours in and already am loving it. Love how you have to use the Judgement Wheel even when using items in battle. I just got through the Village of Cannibals part. That last boss was tough, the one at the shrine in the village that has lot of human bones. I'm really liking how dark the story is getting so far. I might play the sequel right away next or Valkyrie Profile Lenneth.

It does run and look great on Steamdeck. I'll put it in widescreen mode since I really like the graphics. I love the prerendered backgrounds

Speaking of ice cream, I'm somewhat disappointed.

I went out to get some ice cream because it's pretty hot out and I wanted a treat for after dinner. My favorite flavor had sold out at the store so I settled for something called "Shark Bite" which is Blue Raspberry and a grey Vanilla with some raspberry syrup here and there and it's pretty mid. The Moose Droppings I picked up is much better but still, I'd rather have my black licorice and orange ice cream.
