Friends: The Movie 'Confirmed'

Well let's think about this for a minute. This is the state of the characters after the season finale:

Ross and Rachel are living together.
Chandler and Monica live in the suburbs.
Joey lives in California
Pheobe is...?

I think that's how it went. I didn't really follow the show but I watched the odd episode and the finale.

If done well I'm sure it'll do well. Shit, if done poorly it'll still do well. Not that it concerns me as a powerful and independent consumer.

Seeing re-runs recently I realised how wrong I was about Phoebe. She wasn't the worst. Monica was by far. Stupid bitch.

Er, ahem...

It's all subjective. I like HIMYM a great deal more than friends but they share a hell of a lot theme and tone wise was more what I was going for.

They were all terrible. Phoebe was supposed to be all free spirited and fun, but she was annoying as shit. Monica was a whiney bitch, and Rachel was like Monica, minus the bitchiness, but with added stupidity. The guys were just as bad.

Ahh, maybe that's it. I was convinced I was "growing up" or something. I'd move from boobs to asses and, in an as significant event, preferred Aniston to Cox. But maybe that's cos I never caught the early ones anymore. Still, her character sucked.

Solo, they're still rank-able. I wasn't a fan or anything. You're right, they did suck.

Really the only completely unsuccessful cast member of Friends since it went off the air is Matt Leblanc (Joey)... who has pretty much literally done nothing - I think he left acting for a different career actually. Everyone else has at least kept busy in some form, some rather successfully.

Jennifer Aniston obviously in a shit ton of big box-office romantic comedies and all over the tabloids constantly, David Schwimmer('s voice) has starred in both Madagascar films which were both very successful at the box-office and they're doing a third plus he was on an episode of Entourage not too long ago, Matthew Perry's done a few movies and starred in Studio 60, Lisa Kudrow has been in a bunch of family comedies and did some pretty well received web comedy thing I think, and Courtney Cox was in Dirt and now Cougar Town and is set to be in Scream 4 apparently plus she was in that recent Adam Sandler flick.

I didn't get into Friends until after reruns stated showing on syndication. I watched after school and actually enjoyed the series.

...

With that said, I think this movie will be ass.

Why now?

I don't hate the show, but my main problem with it is how it's brought up when I mention Seinfeld. As in "Seinfeld is a horrible, unfunny show. Friends is the best show ever."

=/

That's a clue that you need to start hanging around with different people because nobody I know has ever said anything like that.

The show was never really that good, but it worked somehow. However, I think they are all probably too old for this to work again.

Well, some of her more notable work other than Friends are:
- Office Space
- Along Came Polly
- Bruce Almighty
- The Breakup
- Marley and Me

and she's pretty much booked for a movie every year. She's doing just fine.
You forgot "The Good Girl" which has probably been the best role in her career, and the only one other than Office Space where I can honestly say I remember her being in. But that was 7 years ago.

does anyone really want to see this?

yes

its probably in my top 2 favorite shows of all time (comedies)

cant wait

if i remember david schwimmer and matthew perry didnt want to do it at first? Or maybe just david. I think he hates that everyone who sees him calls him ross haha.

It ended perfectly so i guess i would be a little hesitant for them to ruin it, i just hope they treat it as a get together or something

Ugh...I fucking hate Friends. I think I'll go to the premiere and blow my brains out in front of everyone just as the movie starts. I hate Friends. Fuck you, Joey.

I'm hoping that once NBC is done whoring out past franchises they'll have nowhere left to turn but to make a Journeyman movie. :lol

First few seasons were good then it fell apart. I remember Rachel's character had a kid.. but somehow you never really saw the kid and Rachel kept up her free wheeling lifestyle.

I have some Joey / Rachel fanfiction if anyone is interested.

Nah, Aniston owned that shit in the early days, and she aged better as the show went on. But Cox did look great early on.

Oh, and Friends was great at times, but it did get really stale near the end.

I'm gonna assume by your silence that you're greatly anticipating my fan fiction. It's about 19 chapters long, so I'll skip to the end.

The sun rose over the island of Barbados, casting a kaleidoscope of pink and lavender and fiery orange over the ocean. The soft light of dawn threw a luminous sheen over the white sand, and the salty ocean breeze lifted Rachel's hair while it swirled around the hem of her dress.

The ceremony was simple, on the beach with only Joey, Rachel, the hotel's officiant and two witnesses present. They wore their clothes from Phoebe's wedding and she held Phoebe's fading roses in her hand as they stood barefoot in the surf, unwilling to take their eyes off each other for even a second.

Joey's hand closed around hers while they repeated the vows that would hold them together forever. The officiant said a few words of blessing in his soft rolling accent. Rachel wouldn't remember the words or the witnesses, plucked from the lobby of the Paradise Hotel. She'd remember the feeling of putting her hand in his. The way he looked at her when he promised himself to her and her only. The feeling of making a promise she knew she'd keep. The memory would remain with her for the rest of her life, undimmed by the time.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife." The officiant broke out in a toothy grin. "Go ahead, kiss your bride!"

Rachel giggled before Joey caught her up in their first kiss as a married couple.

"See?" He pulled away and leaned his forehead on hers. "I promised you I'd bring you back someday."

Friends was pretty awesome and then Monica and Chandler hooked up. That was pretty much the jump the shark moment in my eyes.

I like Ted's acting, he seems natural.

The Quiz episode was funny as hell. A lot of the others just didn't hold up well. I'll probably still check it out though just for the nostalgia.

That sounds like a plausible plot line, actually.

Matt LeBlanc is a terrible actor. Whenever I see him in anything (which is rare) it always seems like he's Joey playing whatever character he's playing. Remember that season finale where he saw Ross hooking up with his girlfriend and he had that weird expression and he ran off to hook up with Rachel? He was totally doing that "smell the fart" acting thing that he (the character) had brought up in an earlier episode.

To this day, the "PIVOOOOOOOT!" scene where they're trying to carry the sofa up the loosely spiraled staircase is still regularly quoted by my family. I'm totally on board for this if true.
Goddamn, I can't even hear the word "pivot" without hearing Ross' voice in my head. xD

I actually liked the show and I have no idea why I'd want to see a movie. What are they gonna have? Chandler and Monica with twins? Rachel and Ross with their little kid?

And didn't it happen that Joey moved to Hollywood, hence the crappy spin-off?

Look. I enjoyed the show, but a movie is just asking for disaster. And for the record, the only good actor on the show was Schwimmer, who was awesome in Band of Brothers, too.

I thought the show should've ended with Rachel and Joey. It just seemed a better match. Plus that moment at the end of season 9, with "Untitled" by Interpol - was chilling and exciting in a good way.

My experience with the show is more of a family bound one, my sister and I really dig it. As well as my roommate.

So I'd like to see the movie perhaps revisit the Rachel Joey relationship. Although, what can Ross do now that would mess things up? Other than die.

Aside from that, I'm guessing it'll feature the kids predominantly.

David Schwimmer was on Curb your Enthusiasm in season 4... he was alright, but he really is just Ross, without that character he has nothing to fall back on.

Dunno, he was quite an unlikeable bastard in Band of Brothers (and more recently Entourage).
