From Software Invading Dark Souls Release Date Breaker's Worlds, Kicking Ass

Lyonaz said:
I hope From Software does this with Halloween or other holidays, sending maxed out characters to invade you.
During past Halloweens, Demon's Souls World Tendency turned into into pure black, meaning tougher enemies and Black NPC Phantoms running everywhere, so I'm pretty sure they're preparing something as sadistic as that for Dark Souls.

Can't wait.

Can't believe some are taking this so seriously haha. It's just fun and purely in the spirit of the game. I would think it was an absolute hoot if it happened to me.

Can you imagine just being invaded in the first place when there's like nobody else online? Tension magnified, especially if you're aware of this whole thing and have an inkling it might be some lvl. 99 Black Knight monster hunting you down. And then you see him. Belongs in the "'oh shit, oh shit, oh shit!' moments. Fall back!" thread. :P

Hopefully they'll do stuff like this post-release.

I hope they do an event like this to celebrate demon's souls closing right before they shut down the servers for good-max level phantoms everywhere!!!!!!!

This reminds me that one of Earthbound's copy protection schemes was to add way too many enemies.

My friend's comment when he read this: "They should have invaded those stores instead".

Fans of Demon Soul's like to be kicked in the nuts, apparently. I'm sure most of them just think it's as designed and they'll praise its difficulty.

I wonder if they are Soulsucking the early adopters. I'd LOL so hard if these people who got the game early are losing soul levels/attribute points.

Here's the thing: if they're just roaming around every once and while and killing people, whatever. If they're camping their bodies and killing them every chance they can...not fun.

That's how I feel about it. Dying over and over again for not doing anything wrong? That's not fun. What makes Demon's Souls fun is the fact that you know HOW you died and you can get better next time. Having some overpowered character come in and wipe you out repeatedly just isn't fun.

Sounds like you don't really know how the PvP in Demon's Souls works. Are you sure you played it?

Yeah, let's punish the people who were enthusiastic about it enough to find a store that was selling it early.
They get to meet the devs, though. It's like free pre-order bonus content! It just happens not to be fun for the player. :P

I have no clue how you pull "kicked in the nuts" from "getting killed once because they ran into a very tough player online."

This is absolutely garbage and stupid.

This is a light ribbing and absolutely not a big deal in the slightest.

I think some of you are under the impression that these guys are getting killed with every step they take, when it's more likely these invasions are uncommon since they can only use one character to invade one game at a time and they have to physically hunt the players down.

You also have to be playing online to be affected by this at all, and with a pre-release copy there isn't much point to it since so few others have the game.

Isn't Demon's Souls praised because it is hard yet ultimately entirely fair? IE it is only your fault when you die?

Losing my progress in a level because I got invaded by an impossible to kill enemy doesn't sound like fun or fair at all. Learning that this enemy was one of the people who made the game and that my only crime was buying the game legally at a store wouldn't exactly endear me to the game.

You say this as though dying and making another attempt at an area of this game is somehow not enjoyable.

Hell, death is practically unavoidable in the very intro to Demon's Souls. You can at least run away from these From dudes, unlike the start of the first game.

If I've been struggling on a level and am finally making some progress only to get smited by a random unstoppable god of death it sure isn't fun.

The Demon's Souls/Dark Souls team continues their streak as the most innovative developer of this generation. Incredible.

I really think these people are masochists or are just saying it's awesome because it isn't happening to them. I just don't see how it's fun.

Once and a while? Fine. But if they have multiple people killing early players (probably not that many), I can see how people are being "camped". That is not fun.

The rules PvP in Demon's Souls are designed such that defeat by PvP is a very minor annoyance, adds an interesting dimension to the game, and most importantly is completely optional.

To actually get invaded by another player you need to:
- Be online.
- Be in body form.

Once you have died in body form, you are no longer susceptible to being invaded, unless you restore your body. You restore your body by beating a major boss in the game. That's a lot of playing before you can be invaded again. If you want to try remaining in body form and progressing without any potential hindrance from an external source, you can simply play offline.

Why is this awesome? If a shop sells the game early why should the end user suffer?
It's not that bad - The buyer and store both know the release date, and it's not like they're banning anyone or deleting saves.

It's also a game where just playing is ridiculously enjoyable so the rage of redoing a part only lasts until you actually start playing again 5 seconds later. In addition it gets to the point early on where a single pocket-full of souls is a loss that can be shrugged off pretty easy. It's why there were souls that were items and not just like your normally "money"-items aren't dropped on death so you can still level a little at first.

Basically if you play demon's souls with the mindset of "beating the level is the only thing that matters" you're doing it wrong.

Yeah, Dark Souls players don't deserve to expect constant dying from creatures or players who are better than them! They should be able to frolic around the cheerful countryside and meet princesses and fairies.

There's an easy fix if you're so troubled by it: don't play online. Most online features are irrelevant at this stage anyway.

You may have bought the game legally, but it's unfair to those who waited to play the game when it officially comes out. So if you're going to invade a low-level character that got the game on release date while you've had it for say a week, are you going to tell them 'tough shit, you should've got the game early'?

Anyways, this is hilarious and one would only be so lucky to have this happen to them. I'm kinda jealous actually.

Can you get invaded if you aren't in human form, now?

How else can you be "struggling on a level" and get invaded?

Like the ones in the game you'll run into when you turn the wrong corner?

So wait, in the game you can turn the wrong corner and accidentally run in to maxed out un-defeatable enemies?

Which you then learn a lesson about avoiding and thus become more equipped to deal with that level. What's the lesson you gain by getting murdered by the developers?

I played and beat Demon's Souls, but I had no idea that you had to be in Body Form to be invaded. I had only been invaded twice, which I thought was because I played the game so late in it's life.

I recant all complaints and now think this is awesome.

Yes. Early game levels are also occupied by enemies and optional bosses which cannot be defeated until you are much, much stronger.

Hahaha From is awesome! This is a most fair move for the people who'll be buying on normal release dates.
But they can always play offline and still be way overleveled when the rest of the world buys their copies.

There are some paths that you aren't expected to survive unless you're revisiting the area at a higher level, yes.

Having actually played through Demon's Souls, I would say something like "That was freaking awesome, do me again."

It would be a fucking honor to get slaughtered by the developers. I don't understand why people are in a rage about this unless they don't know how the game's pvp system actually works.
