Front Mission DS

This is definitely legit. First English screen from the same blog, which is apparently run by the game's producers:

I wouldn't mind a Front Mission 2 remake / port. I understand that the original was a piece of shit because of the load times, but it never got a localization and I can't help but think that I'm missing out having not played it.
 
Awesome, awesome news. With this, Luminous Arc, Final Fantasy Tactics A2, and Hoshigami coming out in the near future, I'm going to have my hands full with SRPG goodness.

Gotta say I'm a bit surprised; it sounded like SE USA was done with the series

The fact that it's on DS will probably get it enough sales to at least do a little more than break even, even though I'm sure it won't be a big seller over here either.

Indeed, but I imagine SE will use this to gauge the current interest level in the series. If it gets enough sales, we may see more Front Mission games come over (5, for example).

Honestly, I think Front Mission 5 is a lost cause... but I am hoping that this is viewed as a series restart, a new chance (with minimal risk) to wash the bad taste of Front Mission 4 out of America's collective mouth. That way, even if we don't get FM5, at least there's a chance for future games in the series (whether new handheld or home console installments).

And hey, we're still getting an awesome game out of the deal, and one never before released in the US, so good either way.

Nice sign. Though I haven't played the game in a long time, nor have I cared much for the series since, the original has always had a sweet spot with me. Alongside Tactics Ogre and Seiken Densetsu 3, they were the three games I followed through mag previews very closely (namely GameFan) but then obviously never got a chance to play on the SNES. I did get around to playing translated versions in the late 90s though but that whole sort of journey and wait added to the mistique of all three games. So I look back on Front Mission pretty fondly.

The same couldn't be said for its action sister though. Anyone dig it? I tried to play it a few times, and though I can't remember why, I couldn't figure it out for shit. Or maybe the gameplay just sucked. It was so long ago...

This is very good news. I passed on the JP version, but I'll definitely be buying this one to help you guys support the Front Mission cause in the US. :D

It'll depend on the US sales, I'd reckon. S-E Europe told me that Dragon Quest Heroes isn't being brought over due to it tanking in America. I'm hoping, though, that the really strong sales of FFIII on DS will encourage it to take a risk. Guess if Chocobo Tales bombs, though, chances may fall...

But whatever the case - Front Mission getting a full translation is fantastic news! :D

Nah actually I think he was confused with Assault Suits Valken. That's the Japanese version of Cybernator. They dropped all the anime references and stuff and localized it as Cybernator.

Well, as far as I remember, Cybernator (okay, Assault Suits Valken) and FM: Gun Hazard played pretty much the same. I guess saying "remake" wasn't very good. :lol

I'll have to try again, though, but seeing screenshots it feels very similar.

Sadly Chocobo Tales hasn't even made the UK DS Top 20 this week...so guess that risk didn't pay off :(
 
Front Mission Gun Hazard was made by at least a few of the same people as Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken, so it's kind of a spiritual successor, yeah. It plays very similarly but with more of an RPG bent.

I'm not a fan of it, but I know some people dig it. Fantastic soundtrack regardless, done by Uematsu and Mitsuda.

FM5 is seemingly definitely a no-no, but the answer for FM 1st DS was a little ambiguous. The whole interview was a bit useless. Even the confirmation of FFTA2 and FFIV DS was flimsy, more of a 'Course it'll come, it's a big name!' than real official comments.

You also have to take into account that RPGamer is a very tiny media outlet and is not likely to get a scoop, so of coure they're not going to announce an unannounced game to them.
 
Super Famicon Front Mission Games = Marvellous masterpieces.

PS1 and post Front Mission games, nice but shitty.

If they release Front Mission for the DS there in Europe (in Spanish, **** yes!) I would buy 5 of them: one for me, one for my nephews, one for my dog, one for my mother, and one for myself because I would like to be burnt with a Front Mission DS copy on my side so we can melt in one.

Uh, no. Front Mission 3 was fantastic, and I've heard nothing but good about Front Mission 5, though I haven't played it myself yet (held out for hopes of a localization). FM1 was great, too, but to say everything since was shitty is just stupid.

I have better taste than you :D

P.S: For me all those PS(add number) Front Mission games were bulky, too slow, lacked of style... I just didn't got in. But that's my personal taste I guess.

I don't know how you can say Front Mission 3 was too slow, wasn't 3 the first game in the series that allowed you to skip combat animations (some one correct me if I'm wrong).

I loved Front Mission 3 and it was one of my favorite games for the Playstation; I would certainly recommend it to anyone. Everything about it was fantastic. Wanzer designs, story, gameplay, weapon selection, and even it's underrated humor.
I personally enjoyed Front Mission 4, but I wouldn't recommend it. It was far too simple and easy overall. It got to the point toward the end that the only reason to play was the story, and that is rarely good enough for the SRPG genre.
