Dude, Totino's/Jeno's is like the worst kind of pizza you can buy. Or shall I say, "pizza", since I don't even think they use 100% real cheese anymore. Hard to believe it is the best selling frozen pizza in the US :\

Anyway, I don't eat much pizza, but when I do, I either make my own or get Freschetta.

The reason why its the best selling pizza is you can buy one for under a dollar. I lived off Ramen and Totino's throughout undergrad.

most of them i've eaten have been pretty great, strangely enough. each has its strengths and weaknesses, but on the whole, i think the frozen pizza market is remarkably strong as far as deliciousness.

cheese disgusts me. so unless i can order a pizza over the phone without it, i usually stay away from the frozen ones unless i am hungry enough to scrape off most of the cheese before putting it in the oven.

being italian and living in italy i've read through the thread in utter disgust : )
has anyone here ever tried making pizza themselves ? it's EASY.

Isn't cheese the fucking point of a pizza? It is like Hot Dog without the bun. It is WRONG.

Depends on who you ask. An American might say the cheese is the most important part, while the Italian might claim it's the tomato sauce.

i have no idea what kind of cheese is found on pizzas there.
i doubt it's mozzarella (which it should be) which tastes completely different from other kinds of cheese.
and there really is no 'more important part'.
A proper pizza is made of bread, tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil; nothing else. So few ingredients that you can't pick one as most important. Did i mention bread ? heck, how can people overlook bread quality in pizza is beyond me.

actually, dude, mozarella is the most commonly used pizza cheese in the united states and i'm pretty sure everywhere. for a reason, of course--it's one of the best. fontina is also quite nice, and hell, even ricotta and goat cheese can be a nice accent on a pizza.

neopolitan style pizza isn't hugely popular in the u.s., but it's pretty damn tasty. i ate at a place in st. paul called punch pizza that knew what they were doing. had one with prosciutto, chiles, arugula, goat cheese, and garlic; the other was mushrooms, salami, smoked mozarella, and fresh oregano. both totally amazing. anyone in the area should try out their highland location. very cool little place.

i'm just not sure it tastes like mozzarella should.
I know different countries adjust recipes and ingredients according to local taste, so i'm not always sure we use the same name for same things.
Like, you know, the thing starbucks calls "real italian espresso"..it's like the furthest you could ever get from an espresso : )
i mean, i just thought we might be talking about different things because i find it hard to believe anyone could hate mozzarella, because it has a very agreeable (?) delicate taste and is generally tolerated even by those who absolutely hate cheese.
One of the best...not sure unless you are strictly referring to pizza or unless you mean true mozzarella di bufala, which is a different story ENTIRELY (and is what you should expect on a true margherita, but it's not very common here either).

it's possible someone could be not enjoying mozarella on pizza, but i'll admit that many times what is put on frozen pizzas and other low-cost, low quality (so to speak) pizzas isn't the kind of homemade mozarella you seem used to. when i make homemade pizza i used balls of whole milk mozarella that i slice, when mozarella is called for.

and actually, since you mention buffalo mozarella, there's actually a fantastic italian restaurant just down the road that serves their frutas del mar in a cream sauce with buffalo mozarella, and it is indeed lovely.

116 posts before someone played the "I'm [insert ethnic group] and I live in [insert country], so I'm a pompous jackass and know more about food than you," card.

I think that's a record.

Good job, jackass!

Damn . . . I was fooled by that foreign-speak on the box and the weight in grams.

I forgot that Canada made the wise leap to metric.

Papa Murphys is incredible at least around here there toppings are very fresh.

You know regarding Mozzarella. I remember that my mom used to use Gouda instead. And hell it still tasted awesome.

lol, i just meant it as it's funny reading comments of people debating which frozen pizza is the best being in this country.
Claiming i'm not used to frozen pizza is being pompous now ?
please, you have a problem getting things in perspective if you think that's something one would use to pride himself on : )

Gouda ? Netherlands ?
No idea what it tastes like, that's something i never tried.
in Naples they sometimes put parmigiano too on top of mozzarella, but i'm not sure i really like it.

well, you do seem to know what you're talking about regarding italian food : )

just to clarify, i didn't mean it as 'your mozzarella is worse than my mozzarella !', i just thought it might be stronger tasting than what we're used to (not because it's worse or cheaper, just because people over there probably like it better that way).
And i'll confess i don't dislike "your" pizza once in a while; it's different from what we call pizza, but that doesn't make it bad.

lol, it was in Germany. Gouda was real cheap there. it costs more than my monthly rent in the US. but like i said, awesome taste.

Home Run Inn tastes the best to me, and I'm pretty surprised nobody mentioned it.

I usually just cheap out and buy Jack's though.

I've been to Italy and to be honest, as a Chicagoan, I find your use of ingredients to be stingy.

uhm...help me
stingy as in 'it stings' as strong tasting ?
i am not sure but i think stingy also means something like scarce, so that's probably what you mean ?

i don't know, if you tried different pizzas from different places and always thought ingredients were scarce...uhmm...are you talking about tomato sauce and mozzarella or the 'extra' stuff ? in which case my explanation would be our pizza generally stays 'pizza' with just a few things on top, here and there: it's rarely completely covered with other ingredients.
Otherwise yeah, it's not like you can eat a great pizza anywhere here either, the times of everything genuine, everything home made following traditions are over for us too : )

We have a winner.

For 98 cents you can't beat it.

word. your pizza dough is flatter than my 12 year old sister.

Oh, yeah, that's how most people here like it.
Not everywhere though, a lot of places give you the choice of regular dough or double dough (which i believe is considered the true pizza in Naples) but it's still nothing like pan pizza.

Well I'll just be honest with you. I spent 6 weeks in Italy. I ate a lot of your pizza. First -- we do pizza better. Second -- even some of our frozen pizza tastes better than the majority of the pizza I was able to find in Italy. That isn't to say all of it. I had some very good pizza while I was there, but it was rare and difficult to find. Oh, and I was looking for the small, independent pizza places. I'm not even counting something like Pizza Euro or whatever it was called. That place had pizza as bad as the worst of our frozen pizza, but I expected that.

Ouch ! that hurts ! : )
Like i said, it's not like you can eat a good pizza anywhere you go here either, but that sounds like a bit of a stretch : )
Let's just say it must be a case of to each his own, i guess. Besides, if your pizza is different from ours, that's probably because you like it better your way. Heh.

I had a similar response typed out yesterday, but decided not to submit it.

I have to agree, I've been to Italy (Rome, Venice, and Florence) and tried the pizza. America simply does it better (especially Chicago). I even liked some of our frozen choices better than what I had out there :(

EDIT: Just wanted to say that Italy is still amazing for food overall. I had some really good meals over there.
