"Fuck my life", in conversation

Has this been popularized, as I´ve been told? Do you use it? Are you, like me, grated by the people that do use it? Or is this not at all common and its just in my own coincidental experience?

At the moment I´m outside of North America so I´m pretty insulated from pop culture phenomena. But recently I´ve heard a few different people use it, and use it frequently. When I look at them puzzled (not because I don´t understand, but because I think it´s strange thing to say), they explain that it´s the new rage, as if that somehow absolves them or that I should begin incorporating it into daily conversation myself. Worse yet, I think people actually only say what precedes "Fuck my life" in order to be able to ultimately say "Fuck my life".

This could probably become a bigger discussion actually, since the reason why it annoys me might just be that I´ve recognized that people only say it because it´s popular. It has no value of its own. But that happens all the fucking time. Its like people springing up wearing trucker hats. And this is the latest example. I´m probably guilty of shit like this myself, actually.

Fuck my life.

Never used it, and I'm getting sick of seeing it daily on people's facebook status. But I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

A friend of mine even commented on this before. Something along the lines of "I think people only put FML in their status when they don't know a better way of expressing themselves."

I think it just annoys me because none of the people that say it (that I know) have it that hard. It's like if I went around saying "woe is me!" everyday. People would wonder what the fuck my problem was.

I've always used it. But now that website makes me seem like im just trying to be emo or cool, instead of authenticly pissed. Never used it though in an actual conversation. At least in a casual way.

Kinda like for Guitar Hero. Now whenever I listen to Metallica people think I only got into it because of the game and just a poser.

Speaking of which I hate it when preppy children come up to me in my car in the parking lot and say "dude isnt that from Guitar Hero Metallica?". FUCK YOU MAINSTREAM MASSES!

isnt this like 10-12 years old if not older? in highschool we'd tell people fuck their life in an angry yet jokingly manner.

I'd hear it every once in awhile back in the day, but in the past couple of months I've heard it at least once a day if not more. I don't know why, but the usage has skyrocketed. Especially on Facebook.

I hear "Fuck My Life" and some variation of "Fail" (Total failure, Epic Fail, etc.) almost everyday. It is annoying, yes, but I never choose to use it, and I think I'm made all the better for that.

I've always said 'thus is life' or 'so it goes', which is similar enough but far classier and more socially acceptable.

I use this to try and bait a book conversation. Never worked.

I see it used on social networking sites constantly. Haven't heard it in daily conversation. And for the record, I detest the phrase.

Just read that one a month or so ago. Really enjoyed it.

On topic, though, my friends will use it from time to time, but it, generally, comes off as sarcasm or just an admittance that their whining.

Its not like its a new thing, my friends in several places Ive lived in have been using it for years.

Yeah, Facebook status´ are another culprit!

The worst offender was this girl I met last night. She was really cute, but said FML at least twice while introducing herself. Terrible first impression, but what it did was make me ignore her, which made her interested in me, which gave her a good impression of me. Then she turned out to be interested, despite her FML shortcoming.

Well, yeah. I´ve used it several times before, I´m sure. But this is different.

It's died down some, but about a month ago, I wanted to puke from reading so many FMLs online.

Really. This one girl had her status on Facebook simply "FML!!" and three people liked her status. Just for saying FML.

The problem is, most of its uses are not in situations that warrant it. "It's raining today! FML!!" SHUT THE HECK UP. CRY MOAR.

i use "what the fuck"

or in the case of that stupid goron race from majoras mask "what the fucking fuck is this shit! fuck that fucking guy!"

People I know were using since like a month after the site went live. I am so amazed at how quickly it caught on. Those people are genius.

I've heard it being used recently. The first time happened in my class.

"Lewis looks like you didn't finish your essay" - Teacher
"Fuck my life.." - Lewis

i lol'd :lol :lol

For some reason I find that people saying "fuck my life" out loud is less annoying then people who say "LOL" out loud. Its like saying you find something funny but your too lazy to actually laugh at it.

People have been saying this way before the acronym meme. It just wasn't abused to hell and made fucking sense. Not like "i haev a hangnail fml" bullshit.

If someone sees me do something stupid then pretends to play a keyboard while humming "keyboard cat" I quit the internet.

This. So much this.

Maybe I'm just not hanging around the right people (wait I'm not hanging around anyone), but I've never heard anyone use net-speak in real life. My boss sometimes refers to the office snacks as "nom noms", but I don't know if that counts.
