Fucked up anime/manga

Most fucked up? Probably the Battle Royale manga. It's very lovingly drawn, which is a shame because a lot of the scenes are bullets/knives/etc going through skulls, hearts, etc.
I've seen straight up guro as well (don't google it) which was also real fucked up. Haven't happened across any of that in years though.

Another is basically Final Destination: the Anime. Some of the deaths are just crazy, others are hilarious, most are both, but they're all pretty gruesome. They come up with some pretty interesting ways to end people.
Any of Junji Ito's manga are fucking insane. Frankenstein and the infamous The Enigma of Amigara Fault are among my favorites.
Elfen Lied is not very good but for sheer brutality, it's hard to beat.
School Days because...it's fucking School Days. It has a nice fucking boat, goddammit.
Now and Then, Here and There deals with some pretty dark stuff and doesn't bat an eye once.
And, maybe a bit less so, I find Ikigami to be kinda fucked just because of the implications of the setting.

Tokyo Tribe 2 isn't that hard to get through. That one scene comes out of nowhere and is pretty fucked up but beyond that it's a pretty straightforward show.
MPD Psycho is extremely fucked up, real jack the ripper meets se7en type gore.

That story is just about alien women who choose their masters. That's not really messed up. I can see how the story could have been wrong if they went the realistic route, but the way DearS presents it is in comedic fashion. It's actually pretty funny.
Now the teacher... she's messed up.
Have fun trying to find the berserks 1-13 at a reasonable price.

Hard to top a guro artist that the OP suggested though I'll argue Mai-Chan's Daily Life is more dark comedy if anything. Yeah, saw it once just like Grave of the Fireflies and that was enough. It wasn't the gore it was the sads and WTF moments that just nope.
Berserk is so gory and amazing though. Love me some Berserk and can re-watch and read it any time.
Yeeeah. I started reading Uzumaki recently. Yeeeeeeah. Some of the events in that should by all rights be kind of silly (hair fights! People turning into snails!) but they're disturbing because of the way he handles them. And everything else is just straight-up disturbing.

This. Seriously. It's super fucked up considering the whole ignorant nature of the male MC. It doesnt help that animation is a little light hearted looking but the themes and the subjects involved are fucking dark.
Kidnapping, child soldiers, enslavement, mass genocide, rape, brainwashing, rape, suicide, racism, rape, psychosis, torture, rape, abortion and did I mention rape?

For gore I love how fucked up Violence Jack is. Every comic is basically the same thing. Evil thug gang kills and or rapes a buncha people. Hero of the moment runs into Jack and wants his help. Worse things happen once Jack arrives and then Jack brutally kills everyone. Sometimes the innocents get to live.
Of the three Violence Jack OVAs, Evil Town is really the one to watch. First half is practically a really trashy hentai and then the second half is a total gore fest. Has what is probably the most gratuitous scene involving the killing of children I've seen animated. Even the opening of Genocyber 2 can't compare.

Berserk. The Eclipse is probably the most graphic/violent thing I've ever read/seen. But hell if it doesn't set up for a great series of revenge. Gantz is also fucked up, but it also isn't that good and seems to just go for the shock value.

Thr berserk volumes (1-37) were just on sale for $7.50 a pop on Rightstuf before Christmas. I bought 1-20.

Heh, I can't take full credit unfortunately. I blame Daryl Surat of AWO. I go to his panel for "Anime's Craziest Deaths" every year at Otakon and he opened with scenes from Midori before this year's panel. I was compelled to see the rest after that just out of sheer stupidity and curiousity. I was forwarned and I didn't have the resiliance to listen to reason.
God help anyone else in this thread that checks that abomination out. That is 50 minutes of your life that you won't be able to undo.

I'd buy mangas if I could get hardcopy anthologies. I'm still kicking myself for not buying those beautiful leather-bound editions of Battle Angel Alita 12 years ago.
I don't remember Air Gear that well anymore, but almost every woman in an Oh! Great manga gets raped. Every girl in Tenjo Tenge definitely gets raped. Pretty sure that's why it got real tough to find after certain volumes.

The amount of anime out there that uses rape as shock material is pretty stunning. Netflix mistakenly sent me some anime DVDs I'd never heard of and it's basically torture porn, women constantly put in bondage, murdered (it's okay they're immortal!) and raped. Repellent shit.

It's not that fucked up, but the manga that has left the most upset and depressed is surely Eden: It's an Endless World!, and if it feel like the title seems too joyful to be a worthy candidate, well... that's what i thought to.

Helena's death is still one of the most fucked up things i've read, and his sister's death is right below it.

I think the blowjob one is called either "blow me" or "suck me" and the santa one is called "holy night."
I would direct people away from that one. Torture shit is bad enough when it's fictitious, but knowing that dudes really did that to that poor girl... I'm still puzzled at someone deciding to make a comic about it.
Eh, Mnemosyne is a bad example as it's basically a Japanese retelling of Painkiller Jane.
And even if it didn't have all that stuff, it still would have sucked. Like Painkiller Jane.
But yeah, Rape is used a common shock tactic in a lot of anime/manga, mostly because of the shameful status that common sexuality has in japan. It's almost sad how women with healthy, active sexual lifestyles are commonly seen as characters worth revulsion.
Franken Fran is amazing though. Everyone should at least try it out.

Eden is a must read, it's not grotesque for the sake of being grotesque and the deaths are shocking beyond the level of gore depicted; you grow to care about characters and the tragedy is palpable.
