You should conceal a little favor, like a plastic figurine or a set of crayons, somewhere on your person for airport security to find. At least that way they'll have some small consolation when they realize they wasted time and tax money by failing to discover a weapon.
You should hide a gummy bear. You can claim ignorance that you thought it was a pimple or a boil.

The ability of the machines to pick up items that are not weapons, explosives, or incendiaries is irrelevant to the question of their necessity in airport security. They should be demonstrating that it finds more WEI than traditional methods, not bags of coke.

The fact that it can find bottles, scissors, and bags of coke is presumably tell-tale. Maybe this tech will finally take off.

This is the second time the TSA has spent $30 million + on an untested "security" device.

4 years ago, they deployed the "puffer" to check for bombs. It's no longer around because they don't work.

But some happy corporation got $30 million of our taxpayer dollars to provide us with a useless piece of shit.

I kind of want to hide something strange. "Oh, I'd been looking for those! Must have sat on 'em."

i've been pat down a couple of times @ airport, its nothing to make a big fuss about.

I think it's part of the larger problem that going to the airport is already a pain in the ass; having a pair of hands rummaging around this general area doesn't help that. I think I should be able to board a plane without playing a game of grab-ass given the hoops that must be hopped prior to this.

For fuck's sake, my toothpaste tube is too large? Well fuck me, might as well check my groins. Granted, this is hyperbole; I freely admit that. The last time I flew it was such a pain to make sure I wasn't going to get in trouble just for bringing along items for basic hygiene.

It's like an X-Ray machine, it has no damn idea what it's looking at, the 600 items is just jargon for "here's how many different items of different shape, make and materials we found, buy our product!" What do you expect from this type of machine? Some kind of sentient AI that'll tell the operator everything on a person? It doesn't know! This is why the machines will rise against us, we have too high of expectations, be more understanding of our programmed brethren.

Let me rephrase. The justification for using these machines to virtually strip search people is that people are hell-bent on bringing WEI onto planes and they can only be found using these machines. So why don't they point out how many WEI they find that couldn't be found without these machines, instead of how many drugs and shampoo bottles?

Shampoo bottles full of poison, obviously.

Because the concept of a weapon in "airport" terms is an ever fluctuating one? Because the weapons of the future haven't been designed yet and they don't know what shape or material they'll be made with? because more people carried stupid shit through the airport with these devices than weapons? Because 600 items is a lot more than the weapons? I don't see your argument. if they said it detected thousands of weapons someone'd just gripe about them counting each model of a handgun as a different item or something, it's stupid.

I don't like the machines and think they're stupid and hate the pussification of society as much as the next guy, but it's not the machine's fault or anything.

The expectation is, if the machine can show our most intimate body parts to an anonymous viewer, that person will also be able to see the contraband that isn't supposed to be allowed on a flight. If it's primary function is making visible things that can harm the crew and passengers, then it should be better at detecting explosives and scissors than it is at detecting my cock. Just ask my wife...it couldn't hurt a fly. :P

so whats the deal with this image then? i thought the quality of the scan is nowhere near this good (and that the photo above is not real).

i'd just assume the quality above is representative of the scanners, but i hear so many conflicting reports.

I just flew in the other day. Boy are my arms ti... is my anus in excruciating pain. Good news is I'm not a drug mule. Bad news is I have two impacted molars.

Heyooooooo!

Why not just do profile shots as well as front/back? The broad sides of thin items like knives and razorblades would show up on the side views if they were glued to a person's side. Wires are a little more tricky, but really, we're going to have to accept the fact that if somebody wants to hurt other people bad enough, they're going to find a way to do it.

Plus, side views would allow for easier measuring of penis length / bust sizes for more perverted TSA workers.
Write it all down! I DON'T GIVE A FUCK!

The patdowns are way more invasive now. My first reaction to news of increased patdowns was "meh" until I realized that they were no longer doing a standard patdown.
