world famous director John Carpenter (he loves video games) tweeted about Halo Infinite, commenting on the campaign as the best of any other Halo. Others intervened, not least Elon Musk. Do you think like him about the campaign?

His music for the recent Halloween movies is great (the shape hunts Allyson is my favourite). The problem is some titles spoil the movie if you read them before watching.

Big Trouble in Little China is a masterpiece. Halloween, the Thing, The Fog, They Live, Assault on Precinct 13, Escape From New York are all classics. Fucking hell he is a genius.

Read up on how Carpenter stopped the rights holders of Escape from New York from suing Kojima.

I imagine you have, but check out In the Mouth of Madness if that one's slipped under your radar. Easily one of the best Lovecraftian films even if they don't technically reference anything from the author specifically. Sam Neil is great in it (and he also was in Event Horizon around the same time which was also had Lovecraftian themes without specifically referencing the author's creations).

Great film with awesome soundtrack. It's the last part of his Apocalypse trilogy: the thing, Prince of darkness and In The Mouth of Madness.

There's a lot of creepy imagery. I'll never forget this old receptionist with a secret under her desk. 💀

Im not a halo fan at all and i would have to agree too. The grappling hook makes a huge difference in the combat. This and the new dooms are the only recent fps campaigns i can go back and replay for side missions and achievments the combat is that good. How i yearn for a titanfall 3 and grappling onto titans again.

John Carpenter is just the greatest of all time. I don't know whether I agree with him here. I need to play it more but I'm enjoying it so far.

Carpenter has a consistently great rep among friends who've worked with him.

I feel some guilt for nearly making a very shit game around Big Trouble in Little China (it was the late 90s and I was a kid who thought he was a great designer).

Thankfully G GoldenHelmet (rest in peace brother) prevented it from happening.

I hope Carpenter hangs around longer to see more of his babies becomes actually good / great games.

If there aren't other comments on his part aside the one in OT, I wouldn't say that he is talking of the campaign, at least not necessarely. His comment seems to refer pretty much exclusively to the production design.

What about a Carpenter-Kojima game based on the Escape from New York movie? Kurt Russell voicing Snake also

Worth it if just for the people complaining that the main character "is just a Solid Snake rip-off".

Cool, still never going to play it. Was nor will I ever prolly be a fan of the Halo games. I just dont like the shooting feel. I think I only finished the first Halo and just gave up on the rest.

I think the gameplay is the best in the series, the campaign not so much. The open world busywork really drags it down.

Maybe in the next gen we are gonna have something like this in real time

Awesome. So gross I feel like a psychopath appreciating it haha.

On-topic: We need a brilliant Escape From game, would be so cool walking around looking at freaky people just being freaky. Like the butcher dissecting the pig in Assassin's Creed... whatever one (3? Black Flag maybe?), its just flavour but its a big reason why I love Escape From New York.

My favourite scene is that one where he's exploring the underground place and just looking at mentalists being mental (pushing the girl around and ripping her top open, weird person on leach, etc) the tone is perfect.

Many people love gore, it is no more strange than lady gaga wearing a real meat dress...

Halo could always win game of the year, Cortona, chief etc. put on such a strong showing. I still like Halo 3 the most out of all the games.

Dude is an amazing animator

But everything released for this project was made by hand. There's no real gameplay yet.

Making an animation for a vertical slice is different to how its going to react during gameplay. But I'm excited regardless.

On topic, John Carpenter is such a legend.

Wanted him contributing to some project. Dude still got it. His contributions to the new Halloween movies are lit.

Did they fix the cutscene and in-game animation frame-pacing/judder issues? And the stuttering while playing on PC when you use the in-game v-sync?

I'm reluctant to start it with those issues because I don't like to skip cutscenes and I'm not playing the game without DRS, which afaik is broken when using external v-sync (which fixes the framepacing stutter).

Or is there a workaround now at least?

I guess he is right if we talk purely about gameplay, everything else tho...
Gameplay is king. That's why I own a Switch. I'm glad Nintendo doesn't focus on story telling. And if MS does a poor job at it, I don't care. I play games to do just that, play. Not watch a movie.
